  • She's sided with Republicans 95% of the time in her decisions, after having originally been appointed to the Federal bench by George H.W. Bush. Yeah, she hates white people! **snicker**

  • Mike Allen has a contract with MSNBC - you think he's going to check it out? I don't know her, so I won't comment but it's ironic that the left ALWAYS use the racist thing but when a right wing does it they are considered crazy.

  • appears, she is a racist and just cause she does some good doesnt mean she can be bad person .

  • Tancredo is yet another in a long line of evangelicals who have a fetish with immigration and other xenophobic issues. I'm so happy for the rest of the country he's a "former" congressman; but he and his fellow wingnuts are destroying the Republican party. And as a Republican myself, I despise what these bigoted people are doing to it.

  • Tancredo should have been our President!!

  • Please read Tom Tancredo- "What I meant by 'Third World' Miami".

    It's an eye opener.

  • colorado WTF are you guys doing over there?

  • shes a racist and a criminal

  • yea no shit, if she had said,

I would hope that a wise WHITE MAN with the richness of my experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latino woman who hasnt lived that life.

She is also a counsel member of the racist group LA RAZA,,,,, sure she isnt a racist lol.

  • Extra 1000$ a month sound good? You know where to click<

  • hahaha. Tom tancredo accusing other people of being racist? How much more hypocritical can you get?

  • No one wants to hear what she said. Ask yourself, when did I stop evaluating situations rationally and when did I start backing a movement and losing my individuality and ability to think for myself? Then ask yourself if you are comfortable continuing on that way.

  • If by her statements she means she has a bigger perspective than all the white little rich boys who never worked a real day in their lives, then I agree.

We already little fancy lad Bush run the country into the ground. It's about time we start listening to people who achieved their positions through hard work instead of all these rich frat boys.

  • Can this guy on the right be any dumber. Your trying to portray a latin woman as a REVERSE RACIST. Shes been a judge and in the public eye ALLL HER LIFE.... ONLY PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW HERE (and who happen to be members of an exclusive club which keeps getting more exclusive "RNC")...

Please stop all the stupid noise.

Im fact, keep on talking this bull shiiit and see how well your exclusive party does in 2012 - 2016 and BEYONDDDDD... MUhahaha

    RNC - RIP 2008....

  • First, being a judge and in the public eye doesn't mean anything. Many judges have gone on to say and do bad things. You think inestigating a potential Supreme court justice is an RNC thing? And you think I am one right? Yeah...everything is left/right, up/down. black/white. They got us divided. Easier to control us. Try not to keep falling for it.

  • A single comment made by Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor explaining that she "would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."

Better is the key word. Better than a white male. What if a white guy had said that he would hope that a white man, with the richness of his background would make a better decision than a black guy? Wow!!!! Sounds racist now doesn't it?

  • What if a white male said he had better perspectives than a white female? WOMEN have different perspectives, but no one is calling her a sexist? Why did everyone jump on the color wagon?

  • This is just affirmative action at the highest level.

  • Tancredo might be an ass and a racist himself. But how can a journalist say that he won't even check it out?! That he won't even look back to see if she ever said anything racist. Thats ridiculous!

  • He hasn't given the journalist anything to check out. . No journalist has time to run around chasing bs opionated adjectives that he is just throwing off the top of his head.

  • Not even when the topic of discussion is someone being nominated for the Supreme Court?! It seems to me that because its Obama's pick and its a latin woman everyone would rather not investigate. I think that is neglect of duty and its unamerican and unpatriotic. It's not that hard for a journo to do the digging. This is a big story. It's their job. By the way, they ARE checking now, it's in the news.

  • Honestly, look at her record. I think the Republicans are playing the "name-game" again.

  • It's hard for me to get past the racist part. I don't even want to look at her record.

Even if she would take a strict constituionalist view on the role of the SCOTUS judge I wouldn't want her on the court.

    Her racism sickens me.

  • I mean to SOME extent, she has a point about Whites not understanding the discrimination issue facing Latinos.

I myself, being Asian-American, know that what I perceive as an Asian person on the basis of discrimination is clearly different due to the fact that I AM Asian.

For example, here in Minnesota. The local Congress has made legislation to "govern" traditional Hmong marriages. What they see as fair is not necessarily the best decision for the Hmong community.

  • ^^continued:

It's not discrimination, but it deals with the same concept.

There's no denying that race isn't an issue in politics. It's a real big factor. It's actually two-fold.

We, as a society, can try to be "color blind" but that will only defer attention away from the obvious race issues at the core of our society.

However, addressing the issue of race is also encumbering because there is no objectivity to it.

I'm running on a tangent, but that's my two cents.

  • For your two cents, I'll give you three.

Being color blind sounds more fair then having different standards for different people.

Discrimination toward or against a person of a certain group is the treatment or consideration based on class or category rather than individual merit.

    How isn't she discriminating?

She is saying when it comes to discrimination cases the indiviual merit of the white male jurist can not surpass the wisdom of latina woman who has experienced discrimination.

  • I agree that being color blind is better, but I don't think our society is at that point yet, honestly.

Anyway, I don' t think she is discriminating. I think there is a clear difference and fine line between "merit and knowledge" of an issue and "the experience" of such an issue.

To know one thing...is something, but to go through it is another.

There is some credibility to the Latina woman, it's just not surrounded by our textbook definition of "right."

  • As a white person who came from the projects and experienced first hand race and class issues...I regretfully disagree with your assessment. We all come with life experiences..Yet it's the categorization and (as you say) lack of objectivity that defeats us. Although being a moral ethical human being has some to do with our life experiences...It has little to do with the categories we superimpose on each other..After all at our highest moral ethical state we are all just human beings....right?

  • " I agree that being color blind is better, but I don't think our society is at that point yet, honestly." The question is moua64 Are you at that point?....between you and I.....That's what matters..........?

  • Yes, crrlm8. I have always been at that point. But as a nation, you need to look at it realistically and objectively. Part of the South serves as an example, but of course not all of it. The "color blind" concept was only a tangent that came about from this video, and isn't the issue relative to Sotomayor's qualifications for the Supreme Court.

  • So they are making laws on marriages that only apply to a certain ethnicity?

I thought Europeans were the only ones that did that.

What kind of laws are they passing?

  • Well, usually the family of the groom must give a costly endowment (right word?) to the bride's family as a gift for her hand in marriage.

It usually costs around $10,000, but that has always been something central to Hmong marriages. They either pay it completely, or in terms of gifts, clothing value, etc. And other relatives from the groom's side pitch in as well, so it's not just one family.

Now, a law has limited (for the lack of a better phrase) the "price" of a bride.

  • ^^

I believe it's down to around 4-5 thousand. I'm not sure, but it has been reduced significantly. I just don't think that is a good way to "govern" people, especially such a low key group.

I personally don't prefer these types of marriages, but it's according to tradition and I think government has to respect that. If I recall correctly, they're making this an issue of economics. Plus, these marriages don't infringe on the Constitutional rights of anyone, so I don't know why it's being done.

  • What if the groom's family would like to pay more than 4-5K, or none at all?

Can two Hmong's be married in the jurisdiction without the bride price?

Has the Hmong community set a limit and the government is not forcing them to do away with the limit because the government views this as a matter that they should not intervene in?

Help me wrap my head around this idea of limiting the bride price. What are the consequences of the limit?

  • Racism charge coming from Tancredo is laughable when he called Florida looking like a "third world country", because it was diverse.

  • I don't understand why a racism charge from Tancredo is laughable just because he is a racist himself. Can a racist not identify another racist?

  • it's funny because if he knows enough to call it out when he suspects it, then why why does he unashamedly do it himself? classic projection. hypocrisy at it's best.

  • I disagree and here's why...If you are a racist then you are fully aware of the stigma of being such in this day and age. But it doesn't prevent you from identifying another racist and kindly informing the rest of us (who dont like racists) that there is a racist in our midst. Especially when it suits you politically. ;) But that doesn't mean he is wrong. I think it is our duty to do the digging, whether we like it or not.

  • yeah but that would be like the sheet calling the snowman white.

  • Did you read "What I meant by 'Third World' Miami"?

Tom Tancredo is an American patriot, pointing out what most Americans don't understand about Miami-Dade area.

The piece is not as long as Sotomayor's "A Latina Judge's Voice", but it is written for the average American so it is much more enjoyable to read.

Go a head. I dare you to challenge your prejudices and read his piece.

  • Let me break it down for the people that aren't wise Latina women and can't understand what she said.

She said white males can't make better decisions then latina women regarding discrimination, because they aren't latinas.

She believes the ability to make the best decisions regarding discrimination depends on the race of the person deciding.

She is discriminating against white males with the claim that they can't make better decisions because they are white males. Hence she is a racist.
