so according to Piper, a man who is a professed Christian, commits adultery, murderer, is a liar, fornicator, thief etc....will only lose rewards? BUT the bible say those will not enter Gods Kingdom, it was written to Christians!
If futures sin are already forgiven why Jesus says that if we don't forgive people who sin against us (now and in the future...) then God will not forgive us?
Forgiveness is conditional to repentance and forgiving others, is a daily thing.
The only thing that's still unknown to me is degrees of rewards. I've watched a sermon yesterday called "Word of Promise, Spirit of God, Hope of Man" in which Pastor Piper says that in the eternity we will be more and more enjoying God and that our joy will never stop increasing. If that's true I don't see how do we have degrees of rewards. What is a town compared to joy in the Lord?
If Jesus died for our sins then surley we dont have to answer for anything because he died for our sins, even hitler was a christian so he wont be punished for killing 6 million because jesus died for his sins.
@Barerra1 It's much more than just calling oneself "Christian" that grants one salvation. Its about relationship with Christ.
All who call on the name of the Lord and believe the Father has raised Him from the dead will be saved. There's an implied relational aspect to calling on the name of the Lord. It involves calling for Christ to be Lord of one's life, not just friend or teacher or boss. Christ must be Lord in entirety. outward evidence points to Christ NOT being Hitler's Lord (Matt 7: 16)
@vdvsoldat, The gospel says all sins committed by those in Christ were put on Christ when he died. So if someone did 1000 sins and 1 good deed it doesn't matter if the good deeds don't outweigh the bad ones. (But that wouldn't happen because those genuinely in Christ, their faith produces good works ) The bible says a persons faith is proven by their good works. So believers have a responsibility to represent Jesus in the way He would. With goodness and love.
@vicachcoup YEAH! Sorry, best comment on here, just had to say that I'm wholeheartedly with you there.
There's too much Paul and not enough Jesus in reformed theology.
Yes there is an accounting, but for anyone covered by Christ, that is exactly what we are, covered, washed clean! And that is what will be seen at judgement.
God loves us for who we are, not as we should be, because we will never be as we should be.
@vicachcoup@MnMagpie I agree with yall in so far as that we should test everything (1 thes 5: 21) so we should NOT all just tag along with what Piper says without testing it by the Word. That being said, it SEEMED to me that much of this was said in speculation based upon other teachings in scriptures (rewards in heaven, justification/imputed righteousness, giving an account, etc.)
Where I think we all need to be careful is when suggesting that God didnt divinely inspire Paul's writing in NT.
@vicachcoup@MnMagpie If we consider the Bible to be the Word of God, we must consider it in full, rather than in part. 1 tim talks of ALL scripture being God breathed and useful. John warned of removing or adding from Scripture. therefore, it is all important. But it would be an unfortunate mistake to think that some scripture should be heeded while other sections not. Im not sure if thats what you're saying, but thats what i was hearing =/ . If Jesus is trustworthy, then so is Jesus THRU Paul
'1 tim talks of ALL scripture being God breathed and useful. John warned of removing or adding from Scripture. therefore, it is all important'
OK so the bible is correct bcause something in the Bible says it is - a bit of a circular argument.
So that is proof? And we can ignore common sense?
You only have to look at the completely different accounts of the events at the tomb to see the Bible is incorect. Why did no one else mentio the dead rising etc etc
We don`t have to give an account because there is no god. But suppose the chtistian god exist, even then we will not be accountable. Because their God is LOVE. And LOVE does not keep records of any wrongdoing.>>>>>
Lol, that is so true!(: Our sins are forgiven by Jesus Christ when we ask for His forgiveness! He died for mankind so that we may have life in Him, if we believe and put faith in God and we must show faith by being fruitful for His purpose!
The "born again" experience is good, for it is a sign of repentance. However, there is an "entering into the kingdom of God" by being "born of the water and of the Spirit...".
Forgiveness was at the cross, when Jesus asked the Father to forgive us. But remission of sins is in the waters of baptism, calling on the NAME of the Lord Jesus, and we are PROMISED "the gift of the Holy Spirit".
Why not make a human completely perfect in this life? Wouldnt making perfect examples convince unbelievers to convert? Why 2 sides? Why would god who hates sin allow us to continue showing those fruits of evil also? Wouldn't the judge say, "wait he has just as many evil fruits. This is a stale mate"? Case dismissed. But he excepted jesus they say. But he also continued to except the devil. Half and half. Sorry people it doesnt jive.
It's a shame that a Desiring God conference is held at a church of who's leading pastor Rick Warren leads people away from sound doctrine. A pastor who uses " The Message" in his bestseller. A bilble "translation" with the phrase As above So below

@acesfull99 You can use an analogy to prove just about anything in the Bible. Don't get me wrong, I love the Bible, but I hate when people make their own personal interpretations like he does in this video.
I love the way this dude takes one verse from the Bible and starts to make his own stories about filing cabinets and rewards and other crap. Stick to the Bible.
i've never hurd that the rewards in heaven that are spoken about in the bible are being rulers over cities. this is so interesting. where in the bible does it talk about that?
@chrissiemoda I think that might be to do with the fact that we as Christians will come back with Jesus to earth after the rapture and when Jesus rules over the earth, we rule under Him or something like that.
@mexman48: Are natural being is to sin. We know this because of the fall of Adam and Eve, they sinned so now we inherit that. Thats a problem, because God can't stand sin, so Jesus came and died for us so that we maybe forgiven of that sin so we may enter the kingdom of Heaven. We all know this, so what your saying is that if we live for Christ then we shouldn't sin again. That would mean the road that Jesus walked was easy, which would mean we'd have it easy right? WRONG! Jesus told us we'd be
Matthew 7:21-23: Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. John 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: I go to prepare a place for you.
What an idiot. He says: if I put my faith in christ all my sins, present, past and future. Stupid, idiot if you REALLY put your faith in christ there is no reason for you to sin anymore. In other words you won´t want to sin anymore. Soft-spoken, yet so stupid.

NOT WANTING TO SIN is not the same as NOT SINNING you either go 100% or not at all) Your self-righteousness is showing you might want to cover it up with humility humbleness & REALITY.
@mexman48 Matthew 5v22: "Whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, 'You fool!' will be liable to the hell of fire."
according to the works which we have done in HIS name and the unrighteous will be judged and receive their rewards according to the works that is done in the name of satan. However I'm not saying that works will get us into heaven, only YAHUSHUA but we'll be rewarded for our works.
Well I believe that those who are covered by the blood of YAHUSHUA (JESUS), repented and produce the fruits of their salvation will be judged as righteous people. Those who aren't covered, not repented and produce the fruits of their damnation will be judged as unrighteous people. Well what is God judging then? Well HE has rewards for the work that we have done. The righteous will be judged and receive their rewards (cont).

@tempemonkey2323 No you don't have to be drunk to believe. You just need to be a medieval self hypnotising cave man and ignore common sense and science. A healthy fear of death would also be an advantage.

This shows that the fruits of your life is only evidence for the socio/economic conditions you live under.
Give it up, there is no evidence for your medieval, hate mongering, war mongering, ignorant religion.
@tempemonkey2323 That's ironic because the one thing that this guy ^ (John Piper) emphasizes on is God-centered joy. And we as Christians can rejoice in any circumstance regardless of our socio/economic conditions or any other condition because our joy is found in our salvation and knowing God and both of those things remain eternal in spite of our circumstances. Job is an awesome example for God centered joy and in fact Piper has used him often as an example for believers.
@dominicano0226 How is this for god centered Joy... You are a sinner, worthless and there is nothing you can do on your own to make yourself good, you freely choose to be a bad person every waking day, and will burn in hell unless you believe in me........ Or how about this, your son is gay so you must outcast them from your house and he too will burn in hell...
But I know where the joy comes from.... You have been chosen by god, how special and infallible the ideas you get from him....
@tempemonkey2323 Because since you are a sinner and incapable of freeing yourself from the bondage of your sin, God must free you. And God has saved you. And God will preserve and maintain your salvation. And your job is to enjoy God and to live for his glory. It is ALL God-centered from beginning to end. When I think of my own depravity, it magnifies God's graciousness more and more because he STILL loved me and STILL saved me.
