cont-That accident combined with the progress of varicose ulcers in his legs said to be caused by open sores from other minor jousting injuries and garters he wore to show of calf muscles - well developed calf muscles were attractive in those days - that he became immobile and he became over weight. Within in six months of THAT accident Henry had beheaded Anne and married Jane Seymour...There is now a belief that this accident also caused frontal lobe damage and severe personality changes.
Again..the inaccuracies about Henry and his life based on movie and tv images. Henry was a very well built, fit man who was extremely sporty. It was only after his last jousting accident at the age of 44 (which caused Anne to miscarry their son), which they thought would be fatal that he was told he couldn't joust anymore. TBC
Why on earth do we romanticize the situations with Henry VIII and his wives? He wasn't an attractive seducer. He was grossly overweight and only got what he wanted because he was king. Any girl refusing to become his bed mate would simply be executed. There are lots of other kings and queens to obsess over that made greater contributions.
Though I will admit, I am a little fascinated by it too :P
I love so much how Anne's face is illuminated perfectly, like an angel's when she was holding baby elizabeth in her arms...then ruined by henry's anger and disappointment...followed by a horrendous "love" scene.
(sigh) this show is really sad :( like it wasn't like that at all!!! BUT who cares right just stupid hollywood :(
I think he truley loved Katherine 1st she was his love, but something changed and idk what that was but I think he eventually did love Anne and she loved him allot. But after Anne... there was no love until his last Catherine the 6th wife, whom he simply had great respect for...nothign else.
Drama and theatrics reveals a deeper truth. Most people have a vicarious need to be entertained with passion and intrigue, something missing in the lives of most people. There is a reason.
I descend from Mary and Anne Boleyn through separate lines. One is through Mary Katheryn Carey. It is rather ironic and spiritual for me to watch this video--thanks. All my cousins have red hair and so does my brother --what we have inherited is the passion-- yes, the bloodline.
@mrsotter19 just to comment and piss people like you off? what else, my girlfriend is into it. since then, ive watched more, its not half bad, but i still hate r&b and rap crap. if you dont like my opinion, go throw yourself into traffic. =)
@blueldrrich84 I just might throw myself into traffic but I am having far too much fun watching The Tudors on Youtube. It certainly beats doing the dishes and scraping gum off my kid's hair ;-)
People I have some facts about king Henry which are not explained in this great series. Henry was suffering from many sexual infections which over time got worse and worse affecting his mental capacity, this is why his wives were not giving birth to healthy children or miscarages and other effects were evident in his living children like elizabeth I was loosing her hair. A doctor I know confirmed the symtoms and in a detailed book about him it is also mentioned. Heslept withmany infected women.
firstly she got beheaded because she couldnot have a son then henry married again and she had a son maybe anne was there to help jane god rest all thier souls execpt henry
I dont understand why are all the men so stupid and break their woman's heart. and somehow the woman keeps feeling sad about it till eternity. its been going all since hundreds of years and maybe it will continue a hundreds of years in future also.
i love the scene at 2:27 when he pulls her hand in his and wont let go and has that absolutely cute and mischievous look on his face and so does anne she wants him to keep holding it but still tries to pull away and then lets it stay there and they are both secretly very happy without an expression on their face. its just so cute.
I didnt think Henry could kill her either, but thats what happens when you give one person all the power. I am so glad its not like that everywhere now.
What he did to you,he'll do with you. Anne thought she'd be treated differently. In a way,you can't blame her. King Henry went through hell and high water to have her.
Peronally the whole show is cheesy it bares no semblance to reality whatsoever. Why do they do this? The real story is fantastic enough without resorting to cheesy 21st century attitudes and make-up. Tudor life was so much different to the one portrayed here. Incidently Henry VIII had a beard....sorry.
its true that there are a lot of inaccuracies in this..true, Henry was a big ginger whale and looked nothing like Myers, and the series does seem rather "glamour-ized" at times...but - what's good about this is that it doesn't look like a boring history documentary, but like an exciting series, with sex, blood, action, sordid details...which is what appeals to the viewer. And maybe this has made people who otherwise wouldn't be interested want to know more about the tudors...so thats good.
@Snezhinka9 Good point Snezhinka. However, I feel that once those that have seen this episode look into Tudor history, they may well feel disappointed that it doesnt jibe with this wholly inaccurate portrayal. I think dramas such as this can mislead and give youngsters the wrong impression. Life was wrote Hobbes 'nasty, brutish and short' many people in Tudor times did not have any teeth and disease and deformity were commonplace. You could consider yourself lucky if you lived to the age of 35.
@starryian007 - indeed, especially with all the inbreeding and cousin-marrying that went on...(ew)...people weren't half as pretty as they are in this series. And yet I don't think this is wholly inaccurate, I mean, there are good bits, there are accurate bits, etc...and I think all the speculation makes it palatable. how much money would this make if it was entirely accurate...not as much as this made, I think...bcs there are soo many movies on Henry VIII out there...
I love this, sorry... It is nice, Jonathan is amazing, Natalie is amazing, everybody! What you want? Some fat, ugly people without make-up? Who would be looking at it? They do have to sell it! Certainly, a series have departures from the truth, but the mice, not all that much and everything is quite instructive. :) TODORS ROCK! :) I love it! :)
@starryian007: I'm glad they made the key people as attractive as possible....who wants to see an ugly, fat ass Henry or equally busted lady folk? Obviously not many people...there are plenty of movies of actors portraying Henry in his bloated, lumpy state. I think the Tudors producers made the show the way they did because the purpose of The Tudors is to ENTERTAIN people and to keep the story moving. Incidently, I'm sure Henry changed his apperance, now and again, sans, sometimes no beard.
@madamgmail I beg to differ. The day we start interpreting history in any way we want we are in big trouble.
A story is there to be told. A story that is sadly as embellished as this one, falls further away from it's purpose. Children watching this may develop a totally distorted view of history. One in which denies them the right to see how we really used to live and not some ridiculous 21st century extension of it.
If people's appearence back then in some way offended you - tough shit!
@starryian007: People's apperances back then or now don't offend me...they are what they are. However you miss the point if you fail to undertstand this show is about ENTERTAINMENT...and children should NOT be watching this show...it's for adults. also: "The day we start interpreting history in any way we want we are in big trouble" this is precisely what is going on now in the real world and has been for quite some time....sorry to say.
@madamgmail It is a huge pity that history has been warped into some kind of pornographic muse act for the 'entertainment' of others. It seems to be a common theme these days when making something deemed 'historical' or 'classical that is is turned into into some kind of cheap bawdy tale as it's central theme. Jane Austin and the Bronte sisters would turn in their graves the way their works have been depicted.
It has brought history to the gutter level of something akin to a modern day tabloid.
@starryian007 : from this point forward, you should instead write how you want literature and history to be depicted or reconfigured. Look for finanicial backers and maybe your works will get produced.

LadyPerseverance - I really don't care about your unhealthy obssesion with Anne Boleyn. However,I do care about your thinking that you can dictate to what I type on what video, and what I don't type.Get a life, will you?
@LadyPerseverance hey i do agree wit u, but i think Henry loved Jane Seymour with true love feelings becuzz he requested to be buried next to her when he dies
@Tastypeache maybe thats because she gave him the son he longed for so long.. if katherine had gave him a son he would had stayed with her, the same for anne.. he wanted a son, nothing less nothing more, henry only loved himself
I do not blame Anne. She did not want Henry's attentions at all, she was in love with someone named Henry Percy. They were going to be married, but then Henry took an interest in her and forebade it. Whne the King of England back then, espically Henry, takes an interest in you there is not much you can do. Anne did not want to be put aside and she was very religious and prude. She knew her 2 choices were-sleep with and be thrown away like ehr sister or refuse and be treated better.
Henry VIII was a man used to getting what he wanted. When Anne kept putting him off, his infatuation turned into obsession. Unfortunately for Henry, the having isn't always as pleasant as the wanting.
I think Henry must have loved her in his own way, otherwise why did he go to so much trouble to move Heaven and Earth for her. Maybe 'love' isn't the right word, perhaps it was more obsession. They say there's a thin line between love and hate, and when she died, Henry wouldn't allow anyone to ever speak her name again. Bizarre how his feelings could go from being those of a passionate lover, prepared to do anything for her, to a hateful, murderous king in just 4 years.
Anne taught him how to be ruthless and autocratic; before he was always sure to consult Parliament and follow the laws and had Katherine, Wolsey, and More keeping him in check. But then the desire for a male heir and then Anne's pushing, drove him to learn what he was capable of and after that there was no stopping him. Then the issues of religion drove him with the need to keep divisions intact. Anne caused a lot of division that he had to be ruthless to keep the country together as one.
Love the video, I have to admit I almost feel sad for Anne, but now she knows how Catherine felt when Henry was sleeping around on her. I like the song, took me a while to find it. It's Mariah Carey's For The Record in case anyone wanted to now.
I'm with you all the way on that one. She was supposedly thick as 2 short planks and very plain looking. Henry just wanted a baby-making machine by that point and not someone who answered back like Anne, who was more than an intellectual match for him.
Actually, Jane might not have had the same education as Catherine and Anne, but she was smart enough to *not* behave as Anne did and heed Henrys warnings. At any rate she was karma for Anne and apparantly the nicer of the two.
Nice video, great job, but Anne should have known better. I mean Henry cheated on Catherine for her, so that should have given her a hint what type of guy he was. Once a cheater, always a cheater!!!
Too true. What goes around comes around eh? I suppose she thought that he'd be different with her, especially if she gave him a son & he'd love her forever. Poor Anne :(

I think that Anne didn't know that Henry can kill her. But Jane saw Anne and Katherine end that's why she was more careful.

Well, as they say, if he cheats *with* you then he'll cheat *on* you.

Well, she did believe that he actually loved her. He just wants what he can't have.
