  • They sent a carrier out from Norfolk-

And picked the Yankees up for free.

They said that Queens could stay,

    They blew the Bronx away-

And sank Manhattan out at sea....

  • so far this is the only video with studio version on in... why is that? no that i have anything against live versions, just...

  • @spudmuffin99 It may be they haven't found it for copyright yet, so enjoy it while you can. That is cool, though.

  • @Ger47Bear New york is awsome you are just jealous of it's GREATNES

  • anyway long island sucks too, its overpriced suburbs, rows and rows of houses, and the traffic , east end, where theres the wineries and whats left of the farms, is nearly as bad as any of the 5 boroughs

  • @wenesdae I'm sorry where do you live!

  • you can't stereotype nyers by saying they arent stupid, either, it may be just a demographical illusion that there's more idiots per square inch there(manhattan)

  • If I have said that, then I din't mean to. Steryotypes are a horrid first impretion on race or group of people. that's what I'm saying

  • incidentally living in ny something is always burning and billy joel knows that as well as any1 else , i live on long island i went to school near where he sang about "hangin out at the village green' that was in hicksville it was a open field behind a small row of stores and then 2 highschools which are still there. as far as i know this is true, if im wrong, billy himself will have to post a correction.

  • that is awesome. \m/

  • anyone stupid enough to work or live in nyc deserves to die

  • no, that is unfair. I agree with you it's rather an unpleasant place to live, but A)no one deserves to die and B)New yorkers are not stupid.

  • i live in ny not manhattan what i mean is if you live in the city, sooner or later youre askin for it ,like people who live in a swamp or tornado alley , it may not be toda,y not tomorrow, but someday- youre bettin the odds

  • okay, I see. Well, it's a chance you take in every city. I live in Arizona, and heat stroak is always one block away.

  • ive lived in vegas, i know, no humidity at 115 is still an oven, cooked an egg on the sidewalk, the colorado is dryin up , they better do something soon, or those ppl are f'd

  • nyers arent stupid ?you mean like the genius' on wall street- i hear ya

  • They make fault decisions. you just can't steriotype an entire population, even if you weree one.

  • ha-- you gotta be efin jokin me, there are plenty of people who deserve to die. way too many to list here.

  • no. no one deserves anything. including death upon demographics. That's the worst one

  • 2 buildings and a few thousand ppl is a drop in the bucket and is hardly the end of manhattan, it did not sink into the hudson , too bad, nothin prophetic here,

  • Billy Joel said hat this song was a sort of sci fi fantasy and that he had no idea it would become a reality on 9/11/2001 I've lived through several NYC apocalypses now, I miss the big buildings, but the city is an Earthly paradise compared to the 1970s shit hole I grew up in.

  • this song is like new yorks apocalypse

  • Does this song have anything to do with the New York City Irish Civil War draft riots of 1863?Some of the events mentioned in the song are similar to those which happened during the riots in particular all of the property damage done to NYC.

  • wow...I didn't realize that! they are similar with the burning and buildings and such... I wouldn't know if BJ was thinking about it, but that's cool! O_o...

  • I doubt it crossed his mind even though the song and the event are very similar except this song does not mention the many deaths which occured during the riots.

  • no it is not

  • The entire song is about when he was living in LA and NYC was almost bankrupt, they asked the government for the funds needed to support the city but were denied and the city was pretty much left to ruin. The entire Album Turnstiles is about this. New York State of Mind, Say Goodbye to Hollywood both deal with it also most obviously. The song Miami 2017 is about the city being bankrupt.

  • This is the only quality post of the studio version. Thanks so much!

  • don't give up your day job

  • Man this is great!!!...i just have imagined he song like that all my life!!!...thanks for posting!
