The alternative is to pre-order the game and they give you a beta account immediately. That's completely different from playing to take part in beta - your getting beta as an added bonus should you wish to take part.

im not going to buy this game, UNLESS they provide me with a free trail. WOW has been so successful because its basically allowed people to try and buy before they commit, Darkfall on the other hand was a major letdown and was just after a quick smash and grab of peoples money which is why I never bought it. I'll be surprised if darkfall is still around in a year.

Great Graphics does help enhance the fun factor of MMO's, but amazing fluid gameplay mechanics is the real drive behind what makes an MMO great.. The combat looks dull and boring. Actually, no that's not what I'm saying. Judging what I've already seen of the combat system, I feel MO's combat system is going to be dull and boring,, especially for an mmorpg. Don't get me wrong, I've been waiting for an MMO to look similar to oblivion, but with a better combat system. MO has no 3rd person view, which takes away from traditional mmo elements, and I've always felt it's ridiculous to combine a FPS style game with an MMORPG. It just doesn't work.

MO's combat system looks incredibly dull. Meleers will swing your weapon, strafe, run back and forth, swing again, parry, rinse and repeat. Range users will stay at a distance, hit a button to use their bow, or magic spell, stay out of combat range, run around, rinse and repeat. I understand it's like that with most games, but MO will feel like your fighting as the tin man with no oil. Basically the gameplay does NOT look smooth, flexible, exciting, and fun.

Yes of course. :) I guess what I was trying to say is, I'm pretty much comparing MO to Aion, EQ2 to WoW, etc. Aion for example has some incredibly impressive animations, fluid smooth gameplay, and looks like a blast. MO's graphics are quite godly impressive, but where are the fun and exciting combat features? I understand the videos I've seen so far most likely isn't all that MO will feature. I will find out how much fun and promise the game has in a few days when I get in beta.

Everything requires stamina so you cant just spam swings all the time and constantly circle strafe otherwise you'll run out and be open to attack.

With the ability to block, charge and use other dodge moves it should make combat more interesting that simply stacking up premade attacks like in games like WoW

No not exactly fella... Actually I've been craving a skill based MMO similar to Ultima Online in terms of leveling up the skills you want to master as opposed to most MMO's where it's simply a pre constructed class system with few modifications. My complaints has nothing to do with the skill system. What I don't like is the combat system and the fact it's just in 1st person. Those two features alone is what I dislike atm. But we'll see If my opinion changes when August 3rd rolls around.

yea I've tried Darkfall.. Not very impressed with it at all. The skill system is awesome, but I just couldn't get into the game. The visuals felt strange, weird, and odd. It's as If the player models were outlined with a marker.. It just looks and feels like garbage. Had to stop playing that. At least with UO, the player models matched the terrain and environment. Nothing seemed out of place.

Darkfall just doesn't seem to have much to it and they didn't really do that great of a job putting the graphics together. I joined into Darkfall with a big guild too. We had clan wars like all the time, but it just got boring to me after a while for some reason. There's no pull to the game at all.

ive played the beta and it most certainly isn't dull, its a lot of fun, and you cant strafe or circle like most games, its even above oblivions combat, u have to time everything correctly and go for weak spots etc, u should sign up for beta if u still can
