I agree (mostly). Medicare is currently underfunded by $14 Trillion (mostly thanks to Bush). We HAVE to pay for this (by raising taxes or increasing Medicare eligibility age).
Fixing the system for the under 65ers is a separate issue.
WHO reports USA spends 3% more of GDP on healthcare than other first world countries. We spend it in the "private sector" while other countries spend it in "taxes."
Blaming Bush will not solve any problems. (That's why my comment about his policies being the cause of most of the underfunded Medicare program was within parentheses like this one.)
Acting like adults AND PAYING FOR WHAT WE WANT as we want it--rather than leaving our children in debt--is what we need to do.
Meanwhile, to wring some savings out of our miserable healthcare system, we need to consolidate it and simplify it to avoid all of these bureaucratic, duplicative costs.
ah, so it was sarcasm? if so, i'm ok with it. I think we should pay for what we need and pay for less of what we want (as we buy less of what we want) to leave our children with less debt. When people are individually in debt, they HAVE TO 'have fun' less and pay off their debt, or they could be in trouble. Our government tells us that spending MORE will get us out of debt.

I'm in a credit union/auto insurance company as well. the rates I get are 1/3 of the price I would be getting with Progressive/Geico. I don't mind if things are "for profit". They also have offices in all 50 states. You can look it up yourself. Bill, Dick Armey's Republican lobbying group FreedomWorks spent $283,000 to bus the Townhall mobsters in from out of state and to prepare talking points points memos for the mobsters to use to disrupt the meetings.
Obama negotiated $155 in savings from the pharmaceutical industry to help pay for the uninsured. Compare that to Bush and the Republicans who instituted a law to ban price negotiations by Medicare with pharma companies.

the point is, if youre angry, you go and debate inthe townhall. What happened at the meetings was that Democrats were not even allowed to speak. The Republicans, with the cheerleading of FIXED news, sought to disrupt the meetings, so that they could report these meetings as angry demonstrations. It is false and undemocratic, and it IS being funded by the insurnace companies that want to continue making BILLIONS off refusing healthcare to citizens.

Personally I don't feel this is so much about healthcare reform, but an overall sense of anger with the federal goverment. They've been pillaging us for years from everything to wars, banker bailouts, and Constitution shredding to welfare programs that don't work.
The Democrats are making a big mistake by labeling the grassroots the way they have been. Bush tried it and it failed, I'm not sure why Obama is trying the same thing. This is only going to pickup more steam.

I agree (mostly). Medicare is currently underfunded by $14 Trillion (mostly thanks to Bush). We HAVE to pay for this (by raising taxes or increasing Medicare eligibility age).
Fixing the system for the under 65ers is a separate issue.
WHO reports USA spends 3% more of GDP on healthcare than other first world countries. We spend it in the "private sector" while other countries spend it in "taxes."

ah, so it was sarcasm? if so, i'm ok with it. I think we should pay for what we need and pay for less of what we want (as we buy less of what we want) to leave our children with less debt. When people are individually in debt, they HAVE TO 'have fun' less and pay off their debt, or they could be in trouble. Our government tells us that spending MORE will get us out of debt.
Could Social Security be profitable if it had it's own separate ledger and account? I don't know, it may be too late.

Re Social Security being "profitable," I don't know that it needs to be. Profits are for private investors. Social Security, Medicare, and any health programs we come up with to replace the swamp of a "system" we have now simply needs to be SOLVENT.

I belong to a credit union and a mutual auto insurance company. They're great!
Blue Cross wasn't so bad either until it went for-profit in '96.

I'm in a credit union/auto insurance company as well. the rates I get are 1/3 of the price I would be getting with Progressive/Geico. I don't mind if things are "for profit". I start minding when prices go up and quality goes down and then you hear about "record setting profits"... ok, what are they gonna do with those profits? how about lower prices. there's nothing wrong with breaking even... millions of America strive to even do that every single day. 'profitable' was the wrong term...
