  • whenever we needed a new member for our band, we'd usually go nightclubbing and "nik" him/her from another band...bands do it all the time..lol

  • this is majestic

  • early Plant had no equal as far as I am concerned . Not even Marriott . Makes my hair stand evrytime . This is a cool song too just has a killer dark vibe

  • I think this proves to a lot of people Plant and Bonham were more essential to Led Zeppelin than Jimmy Page was, not excluding Page as one of the greatest, most influential guitarists of all time, but you could picture this being a Zeppelin song.

  • To be honest, I could care less for Robert's "Band of Joy" I like the original Band of Joy with Bonzo on drums and Mick Strode on guitar.

  • Thanks for the post very rare !! I saw them in Brum about 1969 at the Elbow Room I wish I could go back and do it all again

I remember "Planty "as we used to call him when he was with the "Listen: the bass player was named Torchy Beamer,he used to play a Gibson EBO I think, the last time I saw Planty was at the door of the Royal Hotel in Walsall Staffs about 1969 ,just before Led Zep formed

He is a good Black Country lad ,never forgot his roots,

    Thanks again

    Pete (Australia)

    I

  • 1:30 screammmm

  • Sounds a Baby Zeppelin.. His voice's so connected w/ the 70's band

  • KEWELJEWEL!

  • anyone know where to find a copy of the album(?)/ studio sessions?

  • any one know where to pick up copies of the album(s?)/ studio sessions?

  • @cnorman4

    LOL... No.

My collection is from all types of sources.

Some of it is more rare than you can imagine....

  • this doesnt really beat " led zeppelin II" in my opinion...

  • I saw Band of Joy many times back then, they were always playing around Wolverhampton and Brum, the last time was at The Blue Flame Club ,later to be called The Lafayette, I also recall seeing just once "Listen" and I could be wrong here but I think Planty was singing with them that night. I dont remember being too impressed at the time with either bands but Planty was always very different and obviously going to be big. BTW he is a really nice guy who has never lost his working class roots .

  • Where can i get all of the old Band Of Joy tracks?

  • fucking hell! this is new to me !! ....very good!

  • Band of Joy Rocks...then and now...love all of RP's stuff alone or with others...especially JP and Bonham.

  • @kaloncar I completly agree :)

  • First time I've heard pre-Zeppelin Plant. Wow! He was really good.

  • hiya chap, there may be the odd snap of the last band of joy that someone may have taken on the tour arround the scottish towns that we did for the promoter duncan mc,kinnon. i can send you a photo of myself from this time and maybe you could get in touch with mick strode for the same ( hes still playing too), he might have a shot of the last lineup. it was myself that mentioned bonzo to percy when he was in a band called 'listen; john was one of my best mates all the best john hill

  • @notoriousbrothers Thanks John,

    You're the best!

    Randy

  • This is core vintage stuff, thanks for posting.

  • Is this available on cd ya think?

  • Brilliant!!

  • Absolutely brilliant! It's hard to believe that it's not early Led Zep

    Ken Morris.

  • love it

  • nicey

  • i love jimmy pages playing but this guys blues playing seems a little more authentic, less notes, crazy vibrato, a little more restrained. id love to hear more.

  • @TheBrowndawg but this band were a blues band zeppelin werent...thank god...they branched out and page showed us what a versatile musician he really is...his acoustic work alone and layering on the zep albums is class writing ...

  • Never really listened to them. Listened to everything Jimmy was involved in, or JPJ. sounds really cool, nice blues, Kevin on guiter, almost sounds like a Jimmy tone. Thanks luvthatzeppelin, I did enjoy.

  • Sick bro. Half of led zep and some killer rifts. Why had I never heard this before? Thanks bra

  • huge voice and guitar play

  • This really sounds very good. Thank you so much for posting this. This is the first time I've heard the original Band Of Joy from the '60s, and it's really exciting to hear, and cool to hear that it was this good. I can see why they knocked Page's socks off when he first heard them.

  • GREAT SINGING GREAT DRUMS TERRIBLE BASS AND GUITAR HAHA

  • This voice! It's not possible for anyone to get close to this voice.

  • Polskich miłośników Planta, The Band Of Joy i LZ zapraszam na: cogra.pl/index.php/graall/biografie-mity-i-diament-percy-tuz-przed-wzlotem/

  • ACtually, Led Zeppelin's lineup DID change. Originally they were the New Yardbirds. As far as the MUSIC is concerned, zeppelin used a LOT of Yardbirds material in the beginning, revamping it over time, as even the yardbirds themselves did. These things aren't set in stone, rolling or not. ITs about music, but its about business too and the show must go on.

  • @msmarko The line-up only concerns the members. Another thing, I've been told that they never owned the name New Yardbirds since they were dubbed that by outside sources.

  • In many ways more sophisticated than early Zeppelin. Mick Strode was excellent....what happened to him?

  • Love this.........

  • I'ts kinda strange, RObert Plant said that there's no Led Zeppelin without John Bonham then he comes back with Band Of Joy without John Bonham...LOL

  • @Luckyrawk Band of Joy had a whole bunch of different line-ups....different drummers and even a different singer at one point. Led Zeppelin was 4 guys that were their music. Without one of them, the zeppelin could and should not fly

  • @ILuv2BU Different line-ups? Ok, i didn't know about it, Yeah that "4 piece of Led" were really unique!

  • @ILuv2BU ... AFTER Plant and Bonham left there were a few changes..... There are only 2 major lineups, and maybe one or two substitute at gigs before that...

  • @luvthatzeppelin I believe they were going to reform for a one off around the time Plant lost his son in order to raise money for the remaining family for one of Plants buddies that died in a car wreck.....and without Bonham for that one, but when Plants' son died, he of course went into mourning himself and it never happened.

  • @Luckyrawk It's not the same thing: Band Of Joy had no commercially released body of work to live up to in the public's perception. The new band doesn't even try to sound like the original. Using the old name's merely an affectionate nod to the past, nothing more.

  • plant is the boest of the best

  • Saw them tonight. AWESOME!

  • I'm seeing them this month!! :D

  • Very cool song there, I really enjoy it!

  • This song also sounds very relaxing to me.

  • The tune to this song really makes me feel extremely comfortable and warm on the inside, reminding me of my childhood years when I was very young

  • Thanks so much for posting. I had the pleasure of seeing Plant jam with Kevyn Gammon in 2000 with Priory of Brion in Cardiff.

And holy shite--that footage of Bonzo is remarkable. Any noises out there about East Coast tour dates?

  • Anybody have tickets to the show in Austin?? I'm 17, let a young fan get to see this genius, I will be indebted to you forever!

And oh man, if their music will be anywhere near this good...

  • He makes me want to lose my mind too!

  • Just got my tickets for the Dallas show in the mail.

  • Wow what an amazing voice.

  • Wow, never heard this before.......man, now we can hear why Page and Grant were impressed.....

    Thanks for posting, again!

  • Just got tickets to the Houston Show. Man this is a great song. I hope it's like stange sensations 2006 tour where he did 1/2 zep and 1/2 new or cover songs. That show was in a small arena, with him booking out 20k seaters on this I think he has to do a wide veriety of tunes from his career. Should be some great blues and rock, See you at the gig friends!

  • @honeydripperKJ I'm seeing him in Clearwater Fl July 30th. That theater tops out at 2180 seats and not one of them is bad. the acoustics are insane also. Should be a great show.. Ringo is there July 13th also.

  • @da324 Hi, my husband & I were at the Clearwater show last night - 4th row handicap section about 1/3 over from left. It was so fantastic I thought I'd died & gone to heaven. I saw him with Alison Krauss in Atlanta 2 years ago also and loved it but I'm real happy with this band he's put together. I hope to see them again & will be buying the album!!! You're right - that theatre is FAB and worth the drive from east of Kissimmee.

  • Mick Strode doing what he does best! I saw him in 1998 in a club somewhere as part of The Duke La Rue Blues band a while back. Got his and the rest of the band's autographs somewhere on the CD which I bought after the gig :)!!!!!

  • Imagino que foi aí que Page os escolheu para entrar pra 'banda'.

    _

(I suppose it was there that Page has chosen to join the 'band'.)

  • @luvthatzeppelin Going to see Robert Plant and the new Band Of Joy next week in Little Rock, their 2nd public show!! Check back on my channel later for hopefully some footage and a review.

  • @luvthatzeppelin thanx buddy im a music nut i bow down to you

  • @luvthatzeppelin thanx buddy im a music nut ive never heard this ....how about philly dates??

  • ,,are you serious ?, didn't hear about that.

  • Is this the kind of stuff he's going to be doing on his tour this July?

  • so glad robert is getting back with a blues band.

  • Bonham has not let loose yet........

  • simply the best :D good that!

  • Are any of the photos from "Band Of Joy" or just "Led Zeppelin"?

  • This band seems to blues like groups like "The Yard Birds"s and "Rolling Stone" started out as. I know The Yardbirds still played blues though before the rest of the orginal members and Jeff Beck left though.

  • amazing just amazing!!!!

  • Hm, early Robert Plant's voice sound too close as at present time]

  • thats my baby till the ends

  • omg/i never new they were this good, nice gutair also!

  • I had no idea Band of Joy was this good. Who is playing guitar?

  • Mick Strode on Lead Guitar

  • @luvthatzeppelin I thought it was Kevin Gammond?

  • @tomwhittaker69 Check out the description. It is a different lineup... for this song anyway

  • @luvthatzeppelin Ah, hadnt read all the description :) thanks.

  • @killer8rabbit Ditto

  • @killer8rabbit holly shit...you're so fucking right...the guy was AWESOME....as profesional as jeff beck or duane allman or some shit like that...there are some seriously underrated guitar players in this world

  • judging by this song alone-the band of joy were miles better than the yardbirds

  • I agree. I have always felt that Keith Relf had the heart and the ideas of where he wanted to go with music but he had to work for it and it seemed to come more natural with Robert Plant. Everything Robert did was cool by nature...

  • @luvthatzeppelin: It doesn't hurt having Jimmy Page producing all of your work. I'm not saying he was an Eddie Kramer, but he always knew what needed to be done to achieve the right sound for that moment of the album. Zep was four outstanding musicians working together as a team instead of squabbling over girlfriends like most bands do. . .

  • I can definately see why Jimmy wanted him for his new group. What soul.

  • Amazing!!!

I would have been happy if these guys got famous instead of zeppelin

    but zeppelin is better

  • A 65 year old soul in a 20 year old body.

  • where does a 20 yr old white boy get that much soul ?

  • @5Cincinnatus Racism and ageism, all in one post!

  • Comment removed

  • @Tecumseh1812 All I said was that I was seeing them play this month...

  • @5Cincinnatus The black coontry, mite!

  • Comment removed

  • @Geotubest Bob's catching up: Now he's got a 65 year old soul in a 63 year old body. Luckily he's still got he energy of a 20 year old, along with a much improved version of "Band of Joy",(not counting John, of course, who can't be improved upon)..

  • @Geotubest ~the soul is ageless.

  • I hope that someone can post "For What it's worth" by Band of Joy.

  • by far the best voice... he brings chills down my spine every time I hear him in his younger years. No one compares...

  • this is swweeet

  • Thanks!!!

  • man.. i wish i could get this version cleared up a bit..

  • At 2:17 he says "Find my baby, Mr Johnson"

  • I love to hear this old Band of Joy stuff. You can really hear why Page was so impressed, cant ya!

  • OH what a voice.

  • He even adds a little -

Cream - "Born Under a Bad Sign" at the very end...

  • Thanks for you reply! It's not the nices note i've heard from Plant but it's very high...thanks....you got many cool clips.

  • wow! Never heard before really god stuff!!

  • THANK YOU, Randy! This went straight to my favorites!!!!!

  • My pleasure Tracy. I'm proud that I found this one. Ive looked about a year for it. I just discovered 2 days ago that there are 6 total demo songs on that tape by Band of Joy. Now my goal is to find a copy of the Lost Demos.

  • Very good.

    Good job Led Zeppelin

  • uuuuuuuuuuuh...hiper mega thanks!!!

  • There are only 3 demos from The Band of Joy with Plant/Bonham ; Hey Joe, For What it's Worth, and Adriatic Sea View.

SeaView was officially released on a charity compilation tape that had Extremely Limited Distribution in the Midlands... VERY RARE.

  • Is it Plant who takes the B5 note around 1:34 or is it an instrument?

  • It's both. It starts out with guitar at 1:34 and Plant matches it by 1:36

  • Guitar at 1:32

  • Only 3 were ever released. I learned today that there are 6 demos, not 3. I don't know which songs they are. I believe that one of them is " Memory Lane".

  • -UPDATED INFO-

The other 3 songs from the Demo are Memory Lane, Dog House Blues, and Pre Flight.
