so this must be some kind of school science fair experiment right, i mean, there's nothing about music in that thing! it's just a toy that makes weird and anoying noises!
I love mechanical sequencers. And this is a great integration of a handful of simple electronic projects and a a turntable. Great idea, and great execution!
I only would have added a gate out to sync the sequencer on the SK1 with,
@pencildives Actually you could sync a variety of stuff to the Drum Buddy, using the drum buddy as the master clock, if you were to add a gate out. Things you could sync could be old and some new midi sequencers, or modular synthesizers, and with a pulse to midi converter like one made by midiman you could even slave a computer based sequencer to the drum buddy. I mentioned Casio's SK1 toy sampling keyboard because its cheap and easy to modify to take a gate signal to control its sequencer.
@nathanielscott Yeah, I think that would be cool. Does this thing have midi? From what I see it looks like it's made with a turntable, a coffee can used in a dream machine/music box fashion, a lightbulb, and some photocells controlling the synths' circuits.
god i love this stuff, has anyone heard the band deltahead, they built a giant multi prong grammerphone and their live sound all comes through these huge grammerphones rather than pa speakers. It's pretty badass, it's like a old radio but loud as merry hell. Anyway Quintron your a total innovater for creating this, i'm so impressed.
someone tell me how to make one and i will try, i'll add an 1/4 inch effects loop so you can daisychain guitar effects into the drumbuddy. If anyone knows message me, and i'll try and make a homemade clone, i can understand the light activated oscillators and the speed variation dial for the rotations, and most of the other stuff, but how the fuck does he manipulate the TV. Thats total Genius right there, must be some line in input or something, i'm gettin a headache thinking about it all.
really interesting concept, looks like fun to play with too. im just not sure of the usefulness of its sounds...except i guess in dance or experimental music. but i thought the effect that you can get by putting other sounds through it was really cool and probably very usable. i think i have to look into stuff that uses photocells now..
This thing would be cool as hell in late 80s, but now, I don't think it will have a lot of attention.
Maybe some mad collectors will pay like couple of thousands on this thing, but I don't think musicians will buy it. Soo many generators, synthesizers, computer programs had been made. It can be the same thing as with ThermenVox.. :)
this is to sanganas. the point is that he bild it himself so don't be jealous because you ain't got one,as a matter of fact i'm an electronic engineer and i think it's a great invention.
I'm not jealous, of course I must admire that he built it himself and it is fun toy to play with indeed. I just wouldn't use it on stage or in studio instead of my Alesis.

@pencildives A friend of mine made one that was similar: youtube.com/watch?v=RScVAiUphvQ&feature
He used 555 timer chips for the oscillators. It was pretty basic and did not have midi. I think this one is built in a similar way and has no midi.
