  • What an interesting and original machine

  • lol i was like this is bullshit, until he played the record!!

  • how old is this video? it looks like its from the 50'ts

  • We're not worthy!

  • Fucking Cool

  • INCREIBLE

    QUE BUENO

  • I want one!!!!! G.A.S.

  • This is sweet! Happy to have rediscovered this one. Check out my vids for drums that light up without batteries. All in the DIY spirit.

  • hell yeah we need to mass produce this shit!!

  • hell yeah

  • I have fallen in love... my god. I want one.

  • what if i need a repair?

  • Tin can with holes is awesome! :D

  • Awesome!

  • so this must be some kind of school science fair experiment right, i mean, there's nothing about music in that thing! it's just a toy that makes weird and anoying noises!

  • woah!! way intense!!

  • fucking wicked

  • jamming on a dirtstyle record , hehehe

  • Cool! I want!

  • Shit gets real at 4:13.

  • it's very similar to a system for audio on film, or Optigan disc but more wierd !!!

  • The old tecno of a card with holes! Nice!

  • really funny machine!!! good job!!!

  • Really sick, man! Like it!

  • awesome

  • So Fuck =]

  • What is this......................

  • Man thats awesome!

  • and a killer jam to top it off with. legit.

  • that's fucking insane! i wish i was the kind of genius who could just make some cool stuff like that for fun.

  • What is kind of artist, that uses that kind of (THE)shit, as an instrument?! :P

  • the crazy innovative kind

  • Saw quintron a week ago in Mobile, Al.

    Awesome show!

  • wooow!

  • Pretty awesome. Nice bellybutton. The Maria part was overkill though.

  • he didnt buy it u dumb arse he made it. -.-

  • where did u bough that?thanks

  • awesome!

  • I love mechanical sequencers. And this is a great integration of a handful of simple electronic projects and a a turntable. Great idea, and great execution!

I only would have added a gate out to sync the sequencer on the SK1 with,

  • @nathanielscott What would you sync?

  • @pencildives Actually you could sync a variety of stuff to the Drum Buddy, using the drum buddy as the master clock, if you were to add a gate out. Things you could sync could be old and some new midi sequencers, or modular synthesizers, and with a pulse to midi converter like one made by midiman you could even slave a computer based sequencer to the drum buddy. I mentioned Casio's SK1 toy sampling keyboard because its cheap and easy to modify to take a gate signal to control its sequencer.

  • @nathanielscott Yeah, I think that would be cool. Does this thing have midi? From what I see it looks like it's made with a turntable, a coffee can used in a dream machine/music box fashion, a lightbulb, and some photocells controlling the synths' circuits.

  • @pencildives A friend of mine made one that was similar: youtube.com/watch?v=RScVAiUphvQ&feature

He used 555 timer chips for the oscillators. It was pretty basic and did not have midi. I think this one is built in a similar way and has no midi.

  • Ha! Nice machine! And it starts with a key!

  • My new best buddy!

  • no, cause some prick will probably tell me how awful it is.

  • nice toy.....

  • Absolutely amazing genius stuff. The idea is so simple, but it's taken to a fantastic level of complexity - great work!

  • awful. two minutes interest as a novelty item at most.

  • OMG he can modulate volume! By turning a knob!

  • Wooooow, if oyu press f4 you can modulate yourself to oblivion, neolojism

  • yeah.. but some of us actually have ears too.

  • god i love this stuff, has anyone heard the band deltahead, they built a giant multi prong grammerphone and their live sound all comes through these huge grammerphones rather than pa speakers. It's pretty badass, it's like a old radio but loud as merry hell. Anyway Quintron your a total innovater for creating this, i'm so impressed.

  • someone tell me how to make one and i will try, i'll add an 1/4 inch effects loop so you can daisychain guitar effects into the drumbuddy. If anyone knows message me, and i'll try and make a homemade clone, i can understand the light activated oscillators and the speed variation dial for the rotations, and most of the other stuff, but how the fuck does he manipulate the TV. Thats total Genius right there, must be some line in input or something, i'm gettin a headache thinking about it all.

  • you can get one made for $6000

  • This is many optics theremins assembled togethers cool concept !!!!

  • woah. that was awesome

  • pretty toy to look at. Yet more of the same analog synth sounds to listen to.

  • this is amazing.

what is the record with the white label you are using for the demo? that sounds great too...

  • "Super Seal." Pretty commonly used scratch record. Has one side of beats and the other side is all classic scratch samples.

  • amazing!

    :D

  • oh my goodness........thats bad ass

  • Eh, I'd prolly spend at least 150 on this.. 300 at most

    But certainly not 5000

  • burbling light

  • thats cool. would love to try and make 1

  • damn, it's like you modernized the player piano like crazy

  • This is built on some turntable, right? Now I really want to build something like that.

  • thats kool and the gang

  • the dj part is...pretty much amazing, great work

  • Time to sell my Access Polar!!!!!!!

  • THAT IS FUCKIN AWSOME!

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    no words

    great!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fuckin amazing!

  • Cool.

    Want one !

  • looks like a fake drum machine

  • rich hipsters unite and buy this amazing machine

  • cheapass hacksters, build yr own!

  • photo cells?

  • dope as fuck!

  • Is that based just on 555 chips?

  • Mr.Dibbs just auctioned his on ebay.

  • this reminds me of dewanatron stuff

  • woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Eh nothing really special u can only do much with it wouldnt pay stupid ass 5000 for it thats for sure

  • can you send me the link to buy one plz? (send mail through youtube)

  • goodluck only 10 were made.

  • cool

  • bello in 2:50, complimenti

  • aha da kommen also diese ganzen kranken töne her!!

noch nie einer was von wirschem techno gehört, da ließe sich diese wundermaschine sehr nützlich und effektiv einbringen!!!!!hehe

  • Bleh, it's more of a "photosensitive synth" than a drum machine. Aside from the cool colours, I don't see the point in using this retarded apparatus.

  • right haha

  • I am not paying $5000 for this.

  • damn!!! whats going on? good joke!! :D

  • Bad ass drum buddy bad ass!!!

  • NO WAY!!!!!!!! :DDD

  • you rock!!

  • really interesting concept, looks like fun to play with too. im just not sure of the usefulness of its sounds...except i guess in dance or experimental music. but i thought the effect that you can get by putting other sounds through it was really cool and probably very usable. i think i have to look into stuff that uses photocells now..

  • This thing would be cool as hell in late 80s, but now, I don't think it will have a lot of attention.

Maybe some mad collectors will pay like couple of thousands on this thing, but I don't think musicians will buy it. Soo many generators, synthesizers, computer programs had been made. It can be the same thing as with ThermenVox.. :)

But anyway, I liked this video, 5/5

  • Sorry, Not late, but Early ;)

    Made a mistake ^_^

  • awesome! you could cut a series of "beat drums" yourself!!!! I love the versatility! Instant 5!

  • You have GOT to be shittin me...........

  • Love live Mr. Quintron and Miss Pussycat! Just throwing out some love from San Diego - we miss you!

  • wow!!! from 4:05 ->realy the best 8-O

  • uhhh this thing is stupid

  • ...and therefore quite awesome you retard.

  • Nice!

  • this is awesome!! i love it!

  • nice. do you mc?

  • 这哥们太high了!!

  • it takes about an elementary education to make a comment like that

  • Then why aren't they everywhere?

It takes about a beginner's education to play a song like "Sweet Jane" or "Yesterday" on guitar.

    What is your point?

  • mad skilz dun chur

  • Great. Now I want one!

  • Holy fucking FUN!

That thing is awesome. Rad jam session as well.

  • hahah, that's great man. even with a line in

  • this is to sanganas. the point is that he bild it himself so don't be jealous because you ain't got one,as a matter of fact i'm an electronic engineer and i think it's a great invention.

  • I'm not jealous, of course I must admire that he built it himself and it is fun toy to play with indeed. I just wouldn't use it on stage or in studio instead of my Alesis.

  • dont get people's negative comments. I think its awsome JAM!! nice job!

  • It's better my toy-drum machine.

  • Haha, totally not surprised that you pulled out an SK-1 after the initial demo.

This is so innovative..the sounds you could make with this... I think it's safe to say that Moog would be proud. I need one in my studio now :-\

  • It's a great DIY...

  • Looks really cool, but practically is useless

  • what you mean man....can use that shit on a track....nothing that makes sound is completely useless....

maybe a lil expensive but obviously hand made

  • It's not completely useless of course, but you can have same sounds on regular analog synth

  • you suck.

  • But you are being smartass I see

  • really,really good idea!!

  • absolutley amazing, props man that was tight!

  • really..inspiring...

  • MOTHAFUCKIN" GREAT_ASSED INVENTION EVERR!!!

    Period!

    Hats off to Quintron.

  • Ah man, I have to have one. do you have the schematic? or something please pretty please..

  • great!

go see him / them live and get his /their records!

  • that's tight...

  • does it come with more than one beat can or is the idea you make your own?

  • It comes with two cans. You can also make your own. Quintron uses tomato sauce cans that he gets from a pizzeria.

  • I love Toucans! They can help me find some fruit loops!

  • The first time I read this I thought it said, "Quintron makes his own pizza from the tomato sauce cans he uses."

  • you rock !

  • wow - that's got the burliest, most hands-on LFO ever

more fun than a drunk monkey :-)

  • Nice toy.

    Creative.

  • Who whould have thought that the basic concept of the hollerith punch card, and player piano roll could be applied to a phto synth? Awesome. Thanks.

  • goddamn thats cool
