After browsing through the mostly inane and ridiculous comments, I'd just like to leave an honest one that isn't hormone or fear driven :D First off, your audio quality sucks, but you surely know that. There's a lot of things you're doing right -- clean tone for practice, posture, mixing 'toolbox' techniques with more musical structures -- but for a couple of the picking techniques (e.g., pedaled Maiden riff) your fluidity needs work. Metronome and slower! Otherwise, kickass! A good overview \m/

nah alternate picking is pretty essential to anything. i used to down pick, till about 3 months in when i learnt that alternate picking makes everything so much easier, cleaner and fluid. only do down picking to be pedantique when playing something like master of puppets where you 'have' to down pick apparently

The picking hand will most certainly not take care of itself. It requires a great deal of attention and effort. BTW alternate picking has absolutely nothing to do with "inside" or "outside" picking. It simply means you alternate every stroke. Economy picking is where you alternate except when crossing strings. The gypsy rest stroke you start with a down stroke whenever changing strings and alternate when staying on the same string.

Alternate picking simply means you alternate each stroke. In the gypsy rest stroke you never start with an up stroke when changing strings. If you do like dudd when ascending or uduu when descending that is economy picking a la Frank Gimbale. I taught guitar for 15 years in the states. Now I teach English in South Korea.
