I was at Phu Cat Mar. 68 to Mar. 69. 37th Transportation Sq. Kept as many of the vehicles on the road for all you guys as we could with having to go down to the scap yard and perform transplant surgery on most of the turcks that came in to the shop for maintinance. I spent most of my off time down at the tape lab copping music.
I was a Hydraulic Mechanic on F-100s stationed at Phu Cat June 68 to June 69. I was with the 177th TFG from Atlantic City and us and the 113TFG District of Columbia Air Guards made up the 355TFS. Great tour, Great memories Great base for a combat zone.
I was also in the 37th SP Squardon in 68-69. Never will forget that hot June evening at 2AM when the mortars "went walking" up the hill from south to north. Welcome Home guys and gals! Paul in Green Bay. (Titletown USA)
I was at Phu Cat from April 67 to April 68 with the 37th Security Police Sq.. Got there before there was even a runway just a short dirt strip for smaller cargo planes. Spent some long nights out on the perimiter but also took home some great memories By the time I leff the base had really grown and was still getting bigger.
I was at PHU CAT summer 1969 / medevaced out to Qui Ngon after mortor attack june 18 ,69// was with 483 rd CAMS c-7 // prior to that was at Myrtle Beach AFB //
I spent a fantastic year at Phu Cat AB, from June 1968 thru June 25th, 1969, loading those F-100's with "snakes" and "napes" and 2.75 FFAR rockets. It was a great place to fight a war from. When I got back to the states, I joined the ANG and ended up flying those same F-100's for over 1000 hours of PIC time. A wonderful aircraft, which after a flight, the pilot smelled like a fighter pilot should have smelled.
@Jetjok100 My Dad flew F-100's, and I later went on to become a weapons troop, like yourself, but on F-111's during Desert Storm. Loved my job. Good to see some of my bomb-loadin' breatheren!
Thank you for posting this video. I served at Phu Cat from August 1970 thru August 1971. 361st TEWS (Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron). EC-47s. Even though this video was filmed a couple of years before I arrived many of the sights were the same. The big difference was that the F-100s had been replaced by F-4s.

I was at Phu Cat from March 70 to 71, with the 1883 Communications Squadron. I remember the bombed out ornate Vietnamese homes on the base.

Phu Cat was home for 1969, i'll never forget it and still miss the good times,1883 Communications Squadron.
this base had the only fully functional professional
slotcar track, in a metal hut, next to the library.
it was brought in in stages from Japan. We always were
grateful when it was always spared from mortars.
