I do not like the fact that people are in arms about what Obama said about blacks.

The last stats I recall said something like 70% of black women who had babies were unmarried. Certainly all the blame can't be placed at the feet of black men, but certainly a lion's share of it can!

Obama is most certainly a very appropriate person to bring this message as he was abandoned by his father, and is now married and raising his two daughters.

He is leading the way by example and may he continue brining these kinds of messages to black people... who are his people too!

Obama has discounted the instituional problems of racism in this country. He does exactly what white America white conservatives want to hear. A complete disregard for the truth about social injustice, instituionalized racism and marginalization in favor of putting focus on so called "bad black pathology.

@LoveTruth86 Probably because Obama wasn't a victim of institutional racism. He is the president afterall. I don't know how much higher your aspirations could be that racism is holding him back from accomplishing. In my area black people tend to follow the trends into a later age. Dressing like thugs into their 30's. When I see an 18 year old kid dressing like what he sees on MTV I disregard it, but when you're a grown man still doing it, it turns people off, especially employers.

He pretty much told the nation on public television that black people are lazy, morally bankrupt and irresponsible which will and has been used to justify racism since slavery in case you have chosed not to educate yourself on this matter.

He chose to justify these long helf racial stereotypes in favor of a more nuance speech. He would never take this rhetoric to the AIPAC, to white people in Iowa, Ohio or Colorado nor would be say this to the latino community. That is the issue.

I am a black feminist who fights on behalf od women but saying that black men need to step it up as if black women are perfect along with everyone else in society is garbege.

There are many, many black men doinf great things and taking care of their family. The idea of black man as endangered species is media driven and contrived. It is believed because out society is fundamentally racist and beleives that anyhting bad is black and that black people are every and anyhting bad.
