i did a similair thing with open suse, mainly for getting to kno linux though and it worked out quite well, mainly just for simple file share and what not..

1. Install

2. Portforward (100ports for PASV, 1 for listening)

3. Set respective ports & port range in PASV. Make sure use custom port range is checked. Use PHP script for IP. If it does not work, type in the IP from IP chicken.

4. User accounts.

5. 127.0.0.1 if inside network. Cannot use outside IP to do this right, as routers consider it a security risk (network attack).

6. FTPTest.net to see if the outside world can connect.

7. It's working! Enjoy!

Hey, I have a quick question. Everything works fine but when I try to check my ftp server from outside my network the page cannot be found. The page loads for like 10 seconds and then I get, "Cannot Connect To "IpAddress". I have a static ip address.

@kamikim1 if you have a router you need to open port 21 in your router, you must also enter the Windows firewall, where you fine a box labeled "allow no exceptions" be sure that it is not cecked

OK the last part is very wrong. in order to connect to your FTP server outside your own network you have to bypass the router (Port Forwarding) Watch Gigafide's video instead, easier and correct , no offence ;)

I am getting a "530 invalid user" error when entering my external IP Address in say Mozilla (e.g. if I want to log on to the ftp site from remote). No problem logging on to the FTP site from at home. Does anyone have any thoughts? thanks.  (bjaarne, did you get a solution?)
