these guys just rock even when they are all mellowed out....just an amazing amazing song...and let me say this: if YOU justin bieber ever do this song...well...i simply will not be responsible for my actions...i will, after the fact, plead not guilty by reason of insanity and there isnt a jury in the world that will convict me...i consider this to be fair warning in a humorous as well as a legally binding sense...peace out...love yall...rock on...
I was raised by hippie parents in San Francisco, and I remember my folks listening to this when I was a very young girl. Such a fantastic song and band. I live not far from Haight-Ashbury, and somehow this song seems to fill the air every time I walk down Haight Street.
This song is absolutely beautiful!!! I am a big fan of Moby Grape. I've played this song just as I began to peak on mushrooms; it does a great job of sending you on a fabulous trip!!!
Every now and than I come here and visit just to listen to this beautiful song I first heard when I was 14 years of age. Yes, where did time go? So many happy memories, and this song is one of them. Thanks for posting.
Rest in Peace, beloved Grape. This is one of the most beautiful popular music songs ever recorded--always raises an old acid smile in me. Thanks for the video.
@gdillard1 Hey Now, they ain't dead yet. In fact, there is a chance they will be together at a small gig in the Santa Cruz mtns. in late Nov. And when that happens, they still can shake the place, right to its roots...! (All for $10, if you can find your way. ;)
One of THE most beautiful songs ever recorded. So pretty. - I typed in "Beautiful Day" and ended up with this utter garbage from U2 (the Irish band who refuse to live in Ireland). I really feel sorry for young people who are growing up with "music" from the likes of U2 and Lady Gaga. I am so very thankful that in my 20s I was able to hear beautiful and joyous music like this ... Moby Grape is GREAT!
@crohnsappleadams nowadays yeah. U2 sold out big time after achtung baby. they just flat out suck now. the greatness of U2 lies in the eighties (Joshua tree, Boy, War, unforgettable fire). the nineties U2 was TERRIBLE! just corporate commercial pop music. and 2000's, it got even worse.
There are some of us left.....that still believe. Sixty plus and not deterred. Gets a little harder all the time wish life could be simpler and more honest.
Songs like this help me to reminisce there once was a time when we were close to bliss........
Beautiful stuff! The late sixties produced some great stuff, sadly since the late seventies creativity at least what goes out to the masses is close to non existent!
@borntrippin I agree about the 60's stuff, but one listen to anything Mark Knopfler related makes me realize that at least one person is still out there trying to keep the faith! And there are others, just keep your eyes and ears open!
One of the best guitar intros ever recorded, and Mosley sings his ass off and his bass playing as always was nigh on to exta-terrestial! Damofino these boys were just plain great, Peter Lewis' harmony vocals were also extraordinary, and Don Stevenson was a very tight drummer, and Jerry Miller may have just been one of the ultimate pickers on this or any other planet! Rest in Peace Moby Grape, your day in the sun, may have been brief, but, thanks for the memories! Thanks You Tube for the spaceROS
I read about Moby Grape 17 years ago in a magazin when I was 13. it simply says " after their first magical album only way to go was DOWN for Moby Grape " that tells the story.
You have to read this!!! Say your crushes name 2 times and your best friends name 10 times. Paste this in 20 minutes in 12 different videos. then press f8 and your crushes name will pop up. If you do NOT do this or Fail you will die on the nearest Saturday. THIS IS SOOO SCARY! IT ACTUALLY WORKS
Drugs and inner demons drove them off the cliff. One was found dead on the streets. Another from an overdose I think. Too sad. Talent mixed with genius sometimes destroys the talented.
They are all alive except for Skip. Mosley has overcome his demons. Miller plays regularly in Tacoma area. Peter occasionally hits the road and sounds as good as he did back in the day. Stevenson is basically a businessman these days, but bet if he wanted, he could still do it. Omar Spence could fill in for his late Dad. The music business crushed them to this day-it is so wrong.
@maida1982a Sorry for this late reaction, I only red your comment now, but I am glad to read they are doing well and are still alive, except for Skip. Thanks for the information. This is a song I grew up with and I cherish a lot of great memories listening to it......
Moby Grape were virtually unheard of in Tasmania/Australia but I lucked on to one of their albums but am hearing some of these songs for the 1st time, love it all, thanks.
Brush - Ohh...my head, man. Where the hell am I? What the hell happened? Where'd the hippies go, man? Oh, fuck...who the hell is that guy in the mirror? Ahh...man...this is harshing-my-mellow!
Yes they are truly fantastic. One of the most under appreciated bands in the history of modern American music. Great songwriting & they could do it all live. A great performing band. Wow!
Oh wow. The Grape were one of, if not, THE GREATEST band to come out of the San Francisco music scene. I'd say THE GREATEST, neither The Dead, nor The Airplane, Quicksilver, Country Joe, or Big Brother affect me like Moby Grape. Just got my CD copies of "Moby Grape" and "Wow" because MATTHEW KATZ IS THREATNING ANOTHER LAWSUIT AND SUNDAZED RECORDS HAS HAD TO PULL THE FIRST THREE TITLES (the third being "Grape Jam"). That guy is a real jerk man!
MattHatter I'm from SF & the times. I dig that you dig Moby Grape & Un-Dig that dog M.Katz.
Moby Grape was a GREAT BAND that could do it All.
1966-67 before all the problems they were as good as anybody live anywhere.
However I also saw a whole lot of the Amazing Qms (pre-Dno) The Dead taking it Higher than Anybody-Airplane in full flight & CJ & Fish & Big Bro&HC with their own Magic LIVE. I say The Grape was Great but I don't have to take ANYTHING away from the other bands to do it.
6749er: Thank you so much for your reply. I've been obsessed with your era since I was 9 years old starting in the summer of 1986! I'm now 32. As I started getting interested in the music from those times completely on my own (because I couldn't stand what my classmates were listening to), my mom then started really fueling the fire by opening up to me about all of her great expierences back then. I knew alot of the old bands she liked but my interest started racking HER brain!
To 6749er: Aside from Airplane, Janis, Jimi, and the like, Moby Grape was one of the earliest names I came in contact with because of their name being on so many Fillmore Auditorium posters. However, KLSX, So Cal's classic rock radio station in the mid-late '80s played "Omaha" like ONE TIME in the summer of 1987, but it was a powerful ONE TIME I'll tell ya. But I didn't get the first album until 1998 at 21! Blew my mind that record, so intense!
i remember seeing this album in the cutout bins in bridgeport, connecticut by the crate load in the mid 70's. i should have bought a few spares. also that gary higgins lp red hash, that used to be everywhere as a cutout!
Jerry Miller is Still Playing, Playing Well and with Beulah a 1962 Gibson L-5 guitar
See Jerry every Thursday night at Uncle Sam's Bar and Grill 8-11 PM. 16003 Pacific Ave Spanaway, WA 253 507-7808
