I find it very funny when people are so sure they know something..publish on the net or this case youtube, and expose their ignorance. A litte research would have educated you, but arrogance reigns supreme I guess. This is Harry Chapin obviously, written by him, based on a poem created by his wife. Of course Cat Stevens did do a song called Father and Son, but it bears no resemblance to to this. You really should do your homework before spreading ignorace to other unsuspecting gullibles.

Cat Stevens may well have covered this Harry Chapin song, but Harry wrote it, and Harry made it a hit.

Harry gave half the proceeds from his concerts to help fight world hunger. He was a tremendous songwriter, had a few hits (Taxi, WOLD, Cat's in the cradle), and died tragically in a traffic accident while still fairly young.

@vhmam yea he did im not sure which album without digging it out. moved recently and am still looking for all my LPS meh. and @pjzabruin yea i know cat stevens did do a version of it i never said it was his first >.<

@sweetone4now I just checked all my albums, its not on a single Cat Stevens album I even looked at his discography and didn't find it. can you come up with proof that he did?

@campbellhippie I haven't been able to go through all the boxes yet :/ its been a hectic time. as far as everyone else goes. cat stevens didn't write it just sang a version of it. But i am not going to argue about it. If i can find the LP anytime soon ill post a photo of the back of it or something.
