The best results are overhead at 8' to 16' from floor and set back 12' from nearest viewer but harmless although intense at any distance. Since the most powerful central beam pattern spreads at 60 degrees from the lens the pattern expands as viewed from further distances. We even haze dispersal in the air very bright three dimensional projections are strong up to about 50' depending on background lighting intereference, patterns and circumstances.
