I'd have to agree with somewhatlongdong. I've had an '87 Maxima in my family since it was new, and I still use it as a second vehicle to drive locally. While I've always loved the look of the body, it has cost a fortune to keep running. New transmission at 90,000 mi, countless factory exhaust systems, 4 steering pumps over the years until I eventually decided to just keep dumping fluid in it instead of replacing it again; the list goes on and on. Electrically, however, it's been a peach.
@somewhatlongdong Says who? I drive an 87 and love it...85,000 miles on it and drives like new...no problems other that routine maint...how many 23 year old cars can you say that about?
personally, I think your full of it, and after checking your home page, I see I'm not the only one who feels that way...85's-88's were most definitely not "crap", and just because you changed the oil on them at valvoline doesn't make you an expert.
They should start remaking these old cars again............they had much more style than the boring "eggs on wheels" of today. This '87 Maxima was killer!!!
My family had a 1985 Maxima wagon back in the day. I inherited it and used it when my daily driver Porsche 914 was "on blocks." I drove it into the ground. "Only 223k" on the clock when the ring gear nearly fell off the differential and we wrote it off as a $3k charitable donation. I'd always heard that 2nd & 3rd generation Maximas had weak gearboxes. Of course, towing my motorcycle and other stuff to Vail from the Poconos and back in an enclosed U-Haul-Ass trailer prob. didn't help!
Hells yea my moms had an '87 Maxima...everyone in my neighborhood loved that car...it was nice all over. I love Nissan cars...when I get out of college, after a house I'm going to buy a Maxima. Can't help it. haha
I agree. The 87 and 88 Maximas are my top favorite cars of all times. They were different than anything else at the time. I loved the dash and silver control panel, the buttoned seat cushions, and the keypad entry. At the time, the 160hp V6 was formidable too. I wish I could find one in good shape now to spruce up. If they sold that car new today, I would buy one without a hesitation. I guess times change.
You are so right, the seats in the GXE's was like a lazy boy chair very nice! These cars were packed with buttons, guages, warnings that was all eliminated with intro of the popular 89 Maxima . Including the headlight out, and the oil pressure guage etc etc. Only 1 other car in 86-88 from Japan that had the features of the Max and that was the Cressida, the then new Acura Legend did not match them in features then. Its an older lady that has an 88 White Loaded GXE with 38,000 miles on it,
Had a black 87 SE 5 spd... it could beat my 01 SE auto from a standstill... and it had 230,000 miles on it... I love that engine! Quality for value... they told the truth!
You live in what is probably a $1-1.5 M House and your driving this piece of shit?
