This technique wasn't as good as some of his others. It might be because I chose the wrong opponent. I was at the local buffet here in Winnipeg and I started eating the food off a really fat guys plate. That is what set up the situation and when I got to the thumb strike part of the technique the fat guy only giggled. He forgave me because I made him laugh and we've been cool ever since.

you are correct , aikido got its foundation in ninjutsu however aikido does not traditionally use strikes just redirection whereas ninjutsu uses redirection to maximize the effectiveness of its strikes.
