There's something ridiculous about trying to establish rock 'n' roll, to have institutions like the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Rock had its roots in the underground, the counterculture, whatever. The tendency for people to try to make things respectable is absurd. We all know, in the rock 'n' roll hall of fame that resides in our hearts, who belongs there.

I find most new musical acts unconvincing. They seem like poseurs trying to become stars instead of writing and performing with their souls. Almost all new music sounds like adolescent angst (and the performers are not teenagers). It's pathetic. And if they do try to make a song that's fun, it just sounds ridiculous and moronic.
I never wanted to be one of those older people who dismiss new music out of hand, but I can't take it seriously.

The Hall of Fame, like most institutions where popularity and "who you know", is a concern, is like anyone else- whoever pleases them gets in, instead of evaluating music as art, longevity, record sales, concert draws, etc. There is also TDN, Yes, Moodies, etc.
Anyone knows the value of these bands. I mean, The Hollies, a tremendous band were only elected this year. That's too long of a wait. Perhaps someone can found a better Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

@bikebeerrun1960 Yes he was officially nominated. I've always loved Neil's music ever since I was a child but it's gonna be a close vote I think. I would vote for Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Donovan, Beastie Boys & I'm still undecided about the last one. My choice would be either Neil Diamond, Donna Summer or Chic. It's a tough one cause they really ALL deserve this Prestigious Award. But the people inside the music business are the ones that vote & NOT the fans. I say GOOD LUCK 2 ALL OF THEM! :-)

Neil Diamond's music and influence trumps all the names you mentioned. His music will be enjoyed by more people, and a for a longer time period than most of those in the H.O.F. Politics, a very human invention, explains injustices like Diamond not getting his due in certain arenas.

He's an unsung Hero withing da music business dat only a few know about. And 2 this day, he's made others practically Trillions of $bucks & yet he hasn't made 1 penny off any of his works. The last I heard is dat he's traveling 2 NYC 2 meet with some powerful people dat just might help him.

The Hall of Fame, like most institutions where popularity and "who you know", is a concern, is like anyone else- whoever pleases them gets in, instead of evaluating music as art, longevity, record sales, concert draws, etc. There is also TDN, Yes, Moodies, etc.
Anyone knows the value of these bands. I mean, The Hollies, a tremendous band were only elected this year. That's too long of a wait. Perhaps someone can found a better Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
