  • I want this video on my VK570 phone.

  • Your video is popular on Beijing

  • I'm finn, but i do understand some russia. This song I think means all young soldiers that was lost in the war.

  • This song is so beautiful. We were great during the Soviet, love from Armenia.

  • Exelente.............musica rusa, la mejor ...............el pueblo mas "poderoso" de la humanidad, no solo por lo belico,.........arte, ciencia, deporte, poesia.......

    cultura magica .unica..

  • farewell to the forgotten fallen soldiers of WWII, of all sides...

  • Very nicely wrapped vocal performance, and yet for me it lacks that feeling of goose bumbs on my back I get when I listen to the original performance by Mark Bernes. Despite the strong operatic voice, Hvorostovsky fails to communicate the sincerity, tragedy and tenderness as it was done by Bernes.

We are just too removed from that era to truly experience the same feelings and emotions that people of those generations went through.

  • Eternal glory to the brave soldiers who died defending they're motherland and eliberated eastern europe.....forever be in our minds and gratitude eternal for the martyr heroes of europe.soldiers of the red army and from my native country romania who fought alongside the soviets after 23 august 1944....eternal rest for the ones who crushed the invading nazist-fascist claw that purched hallf of europe and killed millions....peace eternal beloved soldiers alongside de angels

  • Cudowna piesn i przepiekne wykonanie.!

  • I can not believe someone actually disliked it..

  • Really heartbreaking, so beautiful and so sad. I have tears in my eyes listening to that song.

I guess the crying woman in sekv. 1:02 lost her father or gr.father during the world war II. 20 milions of Soviet citizens paid with their lives during the war they did not even start.

I am not Russion but I have a big respect for common russion people who have been suffering during many hundreds years. At first under wikings, then Tsars, then Comunists, then Germans and now Oligarks/capitalists.

  • @josfol --- These are not just your ordinary, garden-variety capitalists.......... these are THIEVES ..... who rob their own country of it's resources ......... no wonder they need bodyguards ... one of these days the people will arise again .......

  • Cest tout simplement fabuleux.

  • Cest tout simplement fabuleux.

  • Cest tout simplement fabuleux

  • Beautiful song and beautiful performance. Who is the singer?

  • @ukevergil Dmitri Hvorostovsky

  • Jestem Polakiem. Słucham Go tyle już czasu i podziwiam. My Słowianie powinniśmy trzymać się razem. Dmitrij jest wielki!

  • Original is better

  • me gusto mas la versión de cerebro......

  • I'm not Russian, but this song makes me cry every time I listen to it.

  • Rasul Gamzatovich Gamzatov : Расул ХIамзатов

  • It sometimes seemed to me that the soldiers,

Who didn’t return from bloody fields,

Didn’t lie down into our ground

    But turned into white cranes.

And they are flying and are screaming their voices to us now

And they do it from that old time.

May be it is the reason why we often stop talking ruefully

    When we look in sky

  • The weary wedge of cranes is flying in sky,

It flies in the end of the day.

And there is a small interval inside this wedge

May be, it is a place for me.

May be, it will be a day and I shall fly

With the flock of cranes in the same blue sky

And I shall call everyone, whose I left in a ground,

From the sky by on the language of birds

  • @IslamRussia Thanks a million for translating this immortal song. Thanks whoever you are. Love and peace

• je l'aime c'est si touchant

  • Magnifico!

  • If the Russian people feel so strongly about this music, I suppose it is for the many Russians who died fighting the horrible scourge of Nazism. Why is it that the sacrifice of Russia is so little recognized in the West today?

I think the many Russian heroes should be remembered, and what better way than in the beautiful poetry and music of this song.

    Thanks for the upload.

  • it was not russian people died in that war, but soviet!!!!! russian, belorussian, ukranian, georgian, armenian, kazakh, kyrgyz, uzbek, tajik and others were died!!!! by the way, words of this song was written by avar Rasul Gamzatov.

  • I apologize.

Please do not be so emotional. Please try to see into my basic meaning! My choice of words was wrong. That is no need to attack me. Of course, you are right. The people of Belarus and other Eastern countries suffered the main thrust of the Nazies.

Do not be so emotional. Use your intelligence when you read comments. The world is complicated. Everyone can not know everything about everybody all of the time.

If you want justice, I am your friend.

  • it is true that hitler had a pact with stalin.they had common intrests on poland after the treaty of versailles.stalin was a fool in some ways.but hitler would have taken over europe and asia if it wasnt for russia.

  • @ssatrofma ...We are proud of this poetry and music! We think of our heroes!

  • vechnaja pamjat brat ! bratja serbi mi vas liubem, Rossa liube vas !

  • its beautiful song i love Russia its all my life !!!

  • Beautiful

  • This song along with POLUSCHA POLE are part of the reason Russians finally bit the Germans out there in the cold some only 70 years ago.

  • Old lady is crying,im so tatchinhg, this is so sad song

  • I think the slain soldiers in the song are both resurrected and transformed into the Cranes and fly off to oblivion never to be seen again - very moving :(

  • So very fine singer and so sad song,i cry

    Larissa .....NY

  • I've seen him last october in Paris. He's a great singer and this song is particularly so thrilling that I cry each time I listening to it.

I love you Dmitri for your patrotism and the love of your country which I like so

    much.

  • When a soldier is ripped from the earth below him

perhaps his soul is not ready for departure

And in the winds of change live those who were there to see

when and why that soul had to leave

    Is there justice in dying?

    Larissa

  • @VITIMYLENA beautiful words. Thank you

  • In my opinion, there are so many powerful and touching songs in Russia about russian soldiers who died for they Homeland .Dmitry dedicate so damn good this hymn to fallen heroes sometimes because of stupidity of commanders.

  • This song is a perfect proof of the beauty of melancholy.

The woman crying in the audience was very touching.

  • Yeah, old woman crying.., it is very beatiful and sing is very, very nice. Life tragedia and melancholy. I like...

  • what a interpretation!

  • Dziękuję!

  • It is such a moving song, and even if you don't unerstand the Russian words, the language of the music is universal....

I believe that all souls who passed away return, in a feeling of Cranes, so beautiful, blessed, bringing us the blessings from heaven, peace and love.....

  • Very very powerful. Chore+orcestra+Khvorostovskiy

  • Lza mi sie zakrecila! Nie slyszalam tej piosenki od tylu lat. Dziekuje!

Such wonderful song I haven't heard for many years. A had a tear in my eye. Thank you!

Slezy stali w glazach. Spasibo!

    MK

  • He is great!!!!

I love his voice, songs.if i like to go to Russia again, thats for few resons, among all these he is my number1. God bless him!

  • Heartbreaking and beautiful. Oh, people of the world, why can't we al live in peace? Why can't we stop kinslaying?

  • @Sieglinde84 because unfortunately that is not human nature darling

  • @Sieglinde84 Becaus, if man were all at one, there would be no further purpose, no strive, no AMBITION for existence. Thus, we would have to find someone else to compete against (perhaps aliens?) there would always be war of some form, otherwise we would all die.

  • Such an incredible song, matched with the only voice that could ever do it justice! I sang with Dmitri at Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center a few years ago (no bs, my chorus was the Washington CCS, look it up if you don't believe me) and it was an experience like none other.

  • Tolko Russkie umieiut tak zadushevno piet. Voiennyie pesni nikogo ne ostvlajut ravnodushnymi. Prekrasnyie slova, trogaiuschie.

  • I want to bring this man home :D He's so elegant, so hot and so cute at the same time... and his voice is just a gift from the Gods.

  • Ah, kak ya lyublyu ruskye pesni vtaroy mirovoy voyni. Kak payot eti pesni Dima eto bezmernaya krasota, mozhno zkazat sto ona bez konca. J.

  • Nothing could be better....!

  • his performance is so moving and elegant,a legendary voice...

  • Such a beautiful voice!!!! Woderful!!!!

  • Translation:"...soldiers,Who didn't return from the bloody fields,Didn't lie dead...but transformed into white Cranes...They're flying, calling out to us from afar,

The crane formation, is flying, wearily in the sky,Flying in the fog, till dusk.

And in this formation, is left a minute gap,

this is a place reserved for me.

A day will come, when together with the cranes,I will soar in the same blue skies,

Calling out from the sky, in bird language,

All to whom, I left on earth. "

  • Great song!Great singer!

  • absolutna verna!

  • Yeah but STALIN THE GEORGIAN wasn't a saint either... NOSTALGY IS PART OF LIFE... BSPOMINANIE.AH! THOSE DAYS...

  • This is the part that I like most:

He sings it so well! Great voice!

  • this song makes me cry every time i hear it

40+ million of people were killed because of Hitler's insanity. I am talking about on all fronts

  • Thanks. This song bears a moving spell. It is simply awesome.

  • Oh my God... this is still beuatiful!

  • Translation:"...soldiers,Who didn't return from the bloody fields,Didn't lie dead...but transformed into white Cranes...They're flying, calling out to us from afar,

  • haunting and very moving

  • What does it say in English please?

  • die nächste teil:

Ich sah sie abends oft forueberziehen,

    Sie schnuerten meine Seele schmerzenvoll...

Dort unter ihnen ist ein Platz geblieben,

Ein kleiner Platz, den ich einnnehmen soll...

Bald kommt der Tag... Im langsamen Geschwader

Verlasse ich die alte Welt geheim...

Dann rufe ich zusammen mit dem Fater

    Euch, teure und gebliebene daheim...

  • Thanks a lot for German translation. Eternal memory to German and Russian soldiers.

  • That's news to me. Shows you that the Russians can adopt a beautiful song and make it even more beautiful.Because of the Cold War, we in the US never heard ANYTHING from Russia, Hungary, etc. And they tell me there is going to be another war which NOBODY needs!

This time, there are enough nuclear weapons that the entire earth will BLOW UP!And who wins THEN?!!!

  • THERE IS NEVER GOING TO BE ANOTHER WAR,patriotism lies in our hearts nowaday and not in the battle fields.if someone was to play the hero let him do so ,sorry but we will not stnd up and find ,there is no point any more.

  • WE wont, others will....Everything reoccurs with the next generation...sad

  • great, fantastic artist.

  • This song goes deep in to my herat even if it´s from the wrong side..

  • Did you know that this song was written based on a Hungarian people's song, singing by Hungarian POWs (Prisoner of War) in a camp in Russia?

  • Really? I'm a Hungarian, but I never heard it...

    It's so sad and beautiful.

    (And He... too.)

  • It's so sad and so gorgeous... :'(

Well, as I see he never wears a tie. :D

  • To glorious russian people and their red army, for enormos sufferig they had during ww2

  • Xvorostovski? ochen' trogatel'naya nostalgic pesnya.

  • I would be honored to be able to fly with the Russian cranes.

  • Thanks so much for translating the words into English. I didn't think this video could be anymore beautiful or heartbreaking but knowing the words, it is.

  • "...soldiers,Who didn't return from the bloody fields,Didn't lie dead...but transformed into white Cranes...They're flying, calling out to us from afar,

The crane formation, is flying, wearily in the sky,Flying in the fog, till dusk.

  • Many thanks for posting the english version of this marvellous and pungent song.

  • I heard this first commemorating the Unknown Soldier of RUSSIA but I suppose they have them on all sides in all wars. Not so much since they have DNA to identify them with now.

It makes me sad there has to be war at all but Hitler was the attacker for the New World Order back then. Who knows who is it going to be next?

  • Beutiful melody commemorating The War Veterans in any side

  • bravo maestro

  • here are the greek lyrics:stigmes stigmes tharo pos i stratiotes pou pesane sti matomeni yie ,the kitonte tharo kato apto homa allexoun yini aspri yerani.

tharthi mia mera pou m'afto to smari sto mega kampo tha petao kego ,san yeranos kalondas apta urania olous esas pou exo afisi edo.

  • Wonderfull music and GREAT interpretation. One of the most beautifull voices i ever heard! His vocal technique is impressive! Bravo Dimitrii

  • Wow.. When I first heard this, I didn't know what it was about exactly, but thanks to Hvorostovsky's powerful singing, it genuinely moved me..

So I looked it up and for those interested in the meaning behind the song, search for 'Zhuravli' at Wikipedia. (There's also a link to several English translations in the article)..

  • Bravo! I'm speachless!

  • This song touch my heart,I cried.

  • Not much that a moron like me can say. Just "spa-SEE-bah" from Yonkers, New York. Exquisite

  • Spasibo for exist,Mithra,my love!!!!
