Compared to other late 70s/very early 80s punk bands, their music was complex (relatively), different, creative politically, very honest, substantial (it had substance, they didn't sing about a lot of meaningless crap), intense, creative musically (Lydon is a good songwriter), and they lived (Lydon still does) the punk lifestyle, didn't just dress the part. I was into early 80s hardcore, but the Pistols I like, though they grew on me.
