  • what is the avarage fuel consumption on these? (in liters/100kms)

my aunts husband has inheired a mid 60's beetle from his grandma, she was the only owner on it and they havent used it since, but its sitting on their yard so its not as nice anymore. :( it was kind of mint compared to the avarage bug. now its green of moss and algies and shit, but relatively rust free as far as im concernd. would be more than happy to fix it, i mean how much work could there be? drum brakes and wire clutch..

  • right hand drive?

  • beautiful hat rod

  • im sorry did u say mine beetle

  • I would make sure to keep that thing in tip top shape and make sure the fuel lines are all good. i do know those beetles are a fire hazard cause once those things catch fire they burn great since of what the engine is made from. around here in the us when one catches fire the fire diparments let them burn cause they are hard to put out when they are on fire. just keep it in tip top shape and u should be good

  • yeah well my baja will smash on that bug...

  • Cool VW beetle, it looks like a rat rod.

  • nice clock! was it in the vw optional features list? lol

nice bug. i have a 1971 standard with superb unwired electrics... must fix.

  • ur 72 1300 started its life as a 72 1200 didn't it?

  • Looks Standard edition. I love them! I had a '73 1200 standard, '66 standard, and my sis had a 74 1300 standard.

  • nice beetle i have been looking for one for ages but were i live in australia they are all dead and i dont have enough money cause im only twelve but cool vid

  • @ilove360s Aw thanks! I hope when you're a bit older and have some money you can find one. I'm sure there is one somewhere for you, waiting in an old barn. They've been around for 50 years or something - no reason why there won;t be some still around for another 50. People love them so they keep them going. They just get more expensive, though. Start saving!

  • Still plenty lying around... Best way - buy an unfinished project. I want another one, an oval.

  • @LordInksworth Take my 54 its in good condition NO rust at all

  • @ilove360s IM GETING ONE FROM MY DADS FRIEND AND ITS A SUPER BEETLE

  • @ilove360s

    Ha!

I'm twelve and want a Bug!

    But I'm in the U.S. of A.

Also, try looking on The Samba.com, if you haven't already.

  • It looks like a pre 67 bug. Weird.

This song is from Napoleon Dynamite, brings back memories.

  • I am dying to get my hands on an old beetle (rhd) like that. Cant find any in the U.S. .

  • There were never right hand drive beetles in the U.S.

  • I know that. I'm trying to find one overseas. I want one so bad!

  • @joeybinky hey why dont you just convert a left hand to right hand drive all the beetle bodies where "stamped" the same way. you can find parts on the Samba.

  • Was thinking of trying that, but I think the dashboard may be a problem, Cutting, welding. It would be a big project. Plus, it would'nt be the same. Not originally a rhd.

  • For a while there I thought you were Austrailian. Didn't the UKget the 1300 with the "standard" body that the 1500 sedan had since 68? Yours is a 72 and yet it has the same body as the pre-68's we've had here in the Philippines. Just wanted to clarify this little confusion cause we've also had the 1300 with the standard body but not until the mid-70s. It was called the 1300-S which i now think stood for "Standard".

  • G'day Chuddle. I'm not sure exactly. I know a few people have been surprised at it but I can't remember why! One guy thought it was a 1500 with a 1300 engine, cos of the body. Would that explain it?

Maybe someone else reading this can help.

  • G'day yourself, sir. I can see why someone would confuse your car for the 1500: it's because of the rear deck louvres and the externally located petrol filler door--features only found in the 1500, or so I thought. Because the bumpers are not installed, the only clue to it's real identity is the smaller 1300 tailights. The1300 "standard" i saw looked exactly like the 1500. The UK version was likely to be of German origin, while the Philippine edition was Brazillian.

  • Yes, definitely German. I got a set of sloping headlights and wings to match for her... Now, that would add even more confusion!

  • 72 still live so does mine its my first car i have grown to it custom enigne staight chrome only 10k miles on it any idea on how i can install a alternator i need it for my audio battries via subs

  • BUT, who's going to be the TEN THOUSANDTH viewer?

    Probably me...

  • Yea your right, I see fewer on the road then I used to, and they are starting to get a little pricy also.

  • Best strategy is to luckily find a 'Barn Find'. Not sure how you go about getting that lucky, though. Join a pensioners club? Is there a Society For Pensioners Who Have Old Beetles In Their Garages? If there is, I'm joining!

  • I would kill to get my old 66, back. One of these days i will get another!

  • Better hurry - they're becoming more scarce these days. I remember many, many more 20 or even 10 years back. Sigh.

  • Perfect VW! WoW!

  • SHEAR MADNESS!!!!

Your wheel is on the right and your driving down the wrong side of the road!

    Such courage!!!

  • Courage...some would say lunacy. I'm living on the edge and so are the millions of others I see driving on the wrong side. It can only end in disaster. Or indifference.

    Or maybe both...

  • k and y?

  • Sorry?

  • the mph is nothing and it is driving!! lol

  • Oops, yeah. Don't tell the police...

  • Yeah, those speedometer cables are a pain in the ass to replace exactly correctly. When people ask me about my speedometer head I tell them I'm going nowhere fast.

  • Heh. I was stopped by police one day doing approx in a 30 zone- he asked "Do you know what speed you were doing?" "No," I said, truthfully. He let me off with a warning cos he liked Beetles. Lucky he didn't jump in and check the speedo!

My second gear - as good as any car away from the lights. Well, most cars. Ok, some cars. Pretty nippy though.

  • how did u made her alive?

  • By fixing the holes and replacing the bits that didn't work. I got her on the road after she'd sat in a barn for years. These are lucky cars.

  • it is not alive! okay! someone is DRIVING!

  • You should have seen her before. She was dead. I brought her back to life.

  • Have you been thinking of restoring it?

  • Definitely! Have a look at my other couple of Beetle videos and you'll see my Bug looking a lot better. (Click on More Frpom Lordinksworth). I painted her and renewed and fixed a lot of bits. She starts first time, really powerful since I put electronic ignition and super coil in. My bug! :o)

  • Diesel back downto £1 a litre. Petrol 94p.

  • your crazy man kkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!

  • I always have been. I think it was the water.

  • Anyone who reads this: diesel is now £1.36 in my town and petrol is £1.20.

    A litre.

Anyone want to buy my Beetle?

  • How many Kilometers per gallon does this get?

  • I'd say about 25 miles per gallon, which is about 37 kilometres per gallon. Pretty bad, but I love it (O)==(O)

  • Where I live that is pretty normal for a car.

  • I would totally buy the bug, but I'm in the U.S.

  • Ah well. Hey, I thought there were millions of bugs over there? In California, rust-free Beetles? Tell you what - you send me a rust-free 1303s Beetle and I'll send you mine. Deal?

  • Oi! there's nothing wrong with the coopy! I work for them.....but we don't sell cameras...

  • I agree, i shop at the coop every day.

But they do sell cameras, or they did when i bought that one anyway.

  • Meh...mine only sells food.

  • long live the co-op!

  • lol

  • that was cool

  • hey, thanks. Yours was cool too. I'm off to Volksfling next weekend and will put up new vids after it. SUMMER'S HERE!!!!!

  • This beat all the car videos I have watched today ;)

  • NIce comment, thanks!

  • Wait just one cotton pickin' second - you have proper roads all the way up there!?

If you're keeping tabs, petrol has reached nigh on £1.15 (£1.20 for diesel!) down here now. Cheap when you're car does 4 gallons to the mile...

The clock is, and will forever be, spectacular.

  • £1.10 now :o(

  • We got us roads, an banjos an all.

Yes, it's now about £1.15 here too, and I've seen diesel for £1.30.

I have added a compass to my range of instruments. It's very handy for knowing which way is north when I'm driving, and it also tells me which way is south. And east and west, for that matter. And, here's the best bit: it doesn't consume any energy at all, so doesn't affect the fuel onsumption in the sl;ightest. Very good when you car does three and a half metres to the gallon like mine.

  • WELL over a pound a litre - today it's £1.08 in the north of scotland. Older cars like mine are penalised as they use more fuel, but then again I don't have to pay any road tax.

  • 36 years old and still on the road. Not bad.

Over a pound per liter? Ouch! We complain in the US that it's near $4/gallon (US 1 gal=3.8 l)
