  • Omghaxzorz if hes scottish how can he be sparten?

  • Im scottish and i love how Gerard Is an awesome Spartan!

  • The first trailer I watched of, "300" reminded me of the CGI used in Sin City. So I thought it was a comic book brought to the big screen. I didn't know about the real 300 Spartans battle, nor had I heard of the earlier movie regarding this war. Being one that usually roots for the underdog I watched this movie thinking the Persians were going to get their asses kicked! LOL

Love this film. One of Gerard Butlers all time best.

  • I'f we don't learn from history, we are condemned to repeat it.

  • never bottleneck in war again.... gotcha

  • The look in his eyes when there kinda blank , makes him look so kinglike and makes it so epic

  • lol u wrote this 8 months ago lmao so it dnt matter now but i thot i should comment. im scottish and fight with the royal marines. just ignore ppl who say they r not english, they think it means they r english thts y lol. they dnt get tht being brittish means u live in the brittish isles lol. some scotts r OVER patriotic. im a scott but i least hav some commo nsense. yes there is a big difference between scotts but most of us have 70 percent foreign blood jst like everyone else these days

  • omg its the past why does it matter!

  • why do people always argue who's the best fighters from the greeks and the persians on here?the scots would have slaughtered both of them! like they did to the romans, vikings and english ;)

  • hey even if we adore scotlands pls dont ignore that we had THE HISTORY (greek word) we had THE BALLS for all fights all those thousands years .We are talking about thousands even million and not sm centuries of yr life.So pls respect history cause you are nothing in front of this GREAT CIVILIZATION,and tell y again we love we adore scotlands but dont do that you look so ridicilous and peasant

  • You talk as if you are direct descendant of those Spartans. Have your DNA checked. Surely you have a lot of Turkish, Roman, Persian and Arab genes.

By the way, even if the history Greeks wrote was true, Spartans were a bunch of uncivilized militaristic barbaric ruthless Nazis who even killed their own disabled and separated men and women. A much much much version of Stalinism even in standards of those days they were so pathetically pathetic. That is why they did not last long.

  • 300 Spartans did stay behind to fight the Persians, which the biggest army at the time, but size doesn't matter was matters is brain, and yes the Spartans did have it.

  • Well according to Greeks, it is. But reality was not fiction. Spartans could not possibly had survived rain of arrows and died all in matter of perhaps minutes. They could not even put a dent in Persian army.

Remember, if Greeks wrote the real version of story, Greek audience would set fire on the books and would have never kept them for 2500 years!

  • Ghorbati, you politicized this movie too much. Just watch the movie and enjoy.

  • Well I did not enjoy the spectaculars making of the movie, despite the contents. Would have loved it if there were more femal beauties in it. :)

However, on the content side, I am afraid there are too many naive minds who are buying the movie as a real account of history. I already have seen the impacts. Furtheremore, the power of image and the psychology that it leaves on subconscience can not be underestimated.

  • history that is the answer!!!!no words oh and by the way history is a greek word

  • You call some mythical writings glorifying non-existent fictional gods as history???

Come on! Why should Greeks write 7000 spartans were were crushed like ants by Xerxes's mighty army in matter of hours of arrows raining down? Off course, they were going to glorify it and say they put up a big fight. Who doesn't glorify their own defeats? Give me an independent source and then I tell you you are right not Greek!

  • why oh why doesn't the posts show as replies:P darn..

  • ı love this man ..

  • i love his way of being proud to be scottish. it's nice to see that.

  • no, thank you though

  • uh, can you please piss off

  • isn't gerard just so hot.. i can't get over.. i'm literally perving... hmmm

  • The writer and director of this film might have taken licenses with this event in Greek history,

However, you must remember this movie was not a actual-factual telling of the event in history.

It came from a man who tells good stories, also I think you have to give credit to the actors who made this movie what it is. It is friging awesome, hats off to Gerry, He does it like no other could do it. It has something for everyone. Yeah, and the body building wasn't bad either.

  • ohmygosh every video i look at on this website has an argument about politics or stereotypes. its ridiculous. whether your views are right or wrong your spamming up the comment board when i wanna see what other people thought about the movie. not about what the spartans were really like or how much the nazis loved killing jews. c'mon people

  • ghorbati hahahahahahaahahhahahahahah

when i read your comment i laughed for like half an hour

dude your as stupid as a 5year old, if your not one

  • Well for someone who does not like to face the realities of life, logic is a laughable matter. Live in your delusions about history and enjoy...

  • yeah i wit u man

  • Greeks definitely had a way of telling myths as real stories. They have fooled themselves with that fictional epics as if their gods existed realy.

Spartans was not a high moral society. It was a far worse version of Nazism and Stalinism. In fact, Hitler, Stalin and Lenin were inspired by Sparta and their barbaric way of slavory, savageness and disposing the deforms and disabled.

  • thats a lovely way of saying the Spartans slaughtered jews,

Everything done by the spartans during that period was for the country, not the king

    Bastard.

  • So Nazis did claim they did what they did for their country too..

  • You can say that about almost all the warrior leaders the last 4000 years which has played a part in shaping the world to be what it is today. Hitler 500 years ago might have been a hero. It's all about what the culture at the time accepts. Mass execution of a group of people is nothing new in history.

  • Serethen

I agree with your notion that someday these things were accepted.

But would you need to avoid glorifying such barbarism for youth. They can be easily brain washed to believe such things are great. Humanity has paid a great price to learn that such things are no value no more.

We also need to remember who wrote the history and be objective about facts and figures.

  • Unfortunately, glorifying rhetorics as such goes deep and politicians are so quick in picking them up. The fact that Hitler and Stalin could abuse such things were because of stories such as this one.

  • The other thing is Sparta, even if we agree Greek version and even per standards of its own time, was a barbaric place and a truly unjust and militaristic rough society with no mercy for slaves and slightly disabled. That was not even praised in their own time.

  • Anyhow, that model of pure militant society is the worst of models for any society. They did not survive even the most barbaric times and were short lived. Their equivalent societies of today died down in no time. So nothing good about them.

  • If we all start making commends about jews you will call us antisemetic right? You people have a way of taking everything that talks about other people and make it all about the jews. Does it hurt you to see that not everything is about you?

  • Dear gavros89,

I may not be a Jew but very against fascism. In fact, I do not like Israeli establishment as it it an apartheid against indigenous people of the land.

My point here is that Greek glorified and fabricated myth, i.e. Sparta, that makes, even if it is partially true, Sparta a very barbaric version of Nazi or Stalinist type society where military might superseded everything. That is not far far far from a model society for us. We are after civil societies and justice not barbarism.

  • My other point is that the story is a myth and fiction. The reality was definitely that Persians crushed Spartans in a matter of perhaps minutes with virtually no casualties.

But that would not have made an interesting read for Greek audience, would it? The archaeological evidence shows rain of arrows that even stones could not survive them let alone few thousand Spartans (not 300).

So watch the movie as an entertainment and nothing more, off course if you are not a Persian. :)

  • at 00:59, i marvel at the site... love to lick him ---- all over...

  • what happened when the Turks turned up?

  • definately it isnt completely accurate but if gives the jist of it, its simply a great film. (It is true that more then 300 fought, ski does no what hes talking about)

  • For a start man there were, WHATEVER Hollywood says MANY more than 300 fighting on the Spartans side, if you add in the Spartans allies and their slave chattels you had Mantineans, Arcadians, Corinthians, Phileans, Thebians and Phocians fighting with the 300, current estimates for the Spartan force run at around 5,200...so Ponedanoob, first ask yr primary school teacher to tell ya the facts and secondly, please old boy DO try to research some facts before posting..cheers

  • No matter how many there were, the Persians had many, many more. The battle of Thermopylae is one of the most famous "last stands" of history for a reason, after all.

Prior to this, my favorite film was Braveheart, and it annoyed me to no end when people complained about the historical inaccuracies (which it did have plenty of), but you don't go to see a movie like 300 or Braveheart and expect a documentary. You go because you like film.

  • How i understand it the 300 were an elite squad which was working as a Leader unit standing on the rear of the greek army which included somewhere around 7000 units. Leonidas leading all ofem. When the Persians discovered the passages Leonidas told the army to flee and regroup. I can recall that the regrouping was essential for the Battle of Salamis to take place. While fleeing they would be slaughtered by the Persians so the 300 remained at the battle making it possible for the rest to flee.

  • Sorry to only comment on this, but God that man is gorgeous!

  • lol, ill call him the tranny

  • Very difficult to find out what the historical truths WERE...very little evidence and most scholars cant agree on even the size of the armies...but great great movie

  • what r u talking about. we are studying greece it's called the battle of thermoplaye and there were only 300 fighting

  • great movie

  • Long Live Greece and The Greeks.

  • THAT GUY IS FUUUCKING SEXEEHH:D

  • gerry is so fucking hot and his accent really hits the spot

  • they didnt FIND 10,000 spartans in a year dumbass, had u actually paid attention the reason only 300 went was because leonidas could not get the ephors' blessings to send his full army so he took 300 spartans 'on a stroll up north'

  • people who beat the crap out of larger groups of people are awesome

  • LMAO

  • haha. "a nice hint of scottishness" ... "very subtle". Right. Half of the time I was wondering if I was probably watching a gory remake of Braveheart ;)

  • agree man ...it is true that 300 spartans managed to stand in front of a huge army of persans..trust me ..i was there

  • It's a good movie, but all those "mutants" and monsters were totally lame. Who put'em in there? And why? What's the point turning a supposedly historical movie into a "Resident Evil"? wtf.

  • It is a good movie, but it wasn't meant to be real. All the mutants and monsters add to the 'noir' genre of the film.

  • it was based on greek mythology dumbass. all those 'monsters' were based on mythological gods (part man, part animal)...

  • Trust me, 15-year-old boy, I know more about greek mythology than you ever gonna know about anything. And it has nothing to do with it. Besides that, "monsters" were on the Persian side. You better go do your homework instead of calling others dumbasses, ignorant teenage pimple.

  • you must feel you've accomplished sumthin.. your a loser.

  • Best movie!

  • yep

  • Something. It is "something", not "sumthin", you halfwit. Shut the fuck up already, please. And learn at least something: English grammar if not Greek mythology.

  • holy sweet fuck buddy. shut your fucking mouth. i don't give a shit how good my grammar is, on youtube. do you think your tough over the internet? you mother fucking douche-bag.

  • it WASNT just a historical movie, it was based on a graphic comic, Frank Miller took some historical facts and infused his own imagination with them, resulting in the masterpiece that is 300

  • Yeah, I know it wasn't "just a historical movie" (though I wish it was). Yet I still think that these zombies and mutants with blades instead of hands are just crossing the line. Those were just childish. The movie's not accurate in a million different ways, but none of those pissed me off. Monsters did. Still the movie is not bad.

  • gonna buy this movie as soon as bloody possible sooooo good.

  • love him...

  • the reason spartans didn't wear armor was because they believed that if they were going to die and go to the gods they should be as pure as possible. they even lathered themselves in oil to be more "pure."

  • psycold, you stupid dolt, it's based on a graphic novel, not history, even history back then wasn't based on history, it was meant to inspire and aggrandize, even if it wasn't as visually stimulating, the fact that 300 stood up to around 100,000 makes it something to admire.

  • awesome movie

  • Scotish turns me on (lol)

  • i need to see it soo much

  • This movie is amazing

  • I FUCKING LOvE THIS MOVIE

  • this film was a huge dissapointment, most if it looked terribly fake, and the fact that they wore no armor just made it a movie about male strippers with swords.

  • umm... it's a movie? go watch 'Iron Chef' if you want real life battle...

  • And I fricken LOVED it.

  • so wat? they added a bit more story to the movie wid the monsters.o wat? admit it! the movie was a fucking ownage production, best so far of this year, grow up and learn to respect a gd movie wen u c it! jeez all u pl do is complain

  • dicussing history and other serious subjects based on a movie which was made to entertain is

    STUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUPID !

by the way homosexuals have a a tacky taste sometimes but not that tacky...LOL

this movie was just boring and had a tacky set and costume design !!

  • "Its a long way from paisley" "Not really" LMAO

  • no thats wat greeks wore when fighting..err yeah right they might be that muscly but they dont fight almost naked.....plus it is alot fiction(the mnsters)

  • Greeks actually didn't wear hardly any clothing while fighting as the clothing back then was very restrictive for combat. "Battle armor" as children like to picture it, was during the medieval ages, mostly during the Latter Middle Ages, Spartans wore a small amount of armor so they could move.

  • yes sometimes greeks dont wear anything and i mean anything, it is not bad cause in the past when you saw someone without clothes you dont think sex or gay things thats the true anyway i am greek and i know that the armor in the movie it is not true of course

  • Oh, please, what idiot even needs to have it pointed out, that the movie is homoerotic? Apart from the CGI abs, the movie is rather a larf.

  • This is racist, and decidedly homo-erotic, war porn for adolescent white boys, nothing more.

  • You, my friend, are too narrowminded to see the beauty of 300 xD

  • rebuffed abs, piercing, under clothed. boy! I see who is obviously narrow minded to see this underlying exotic, recherché and heart stopping beauty of the movie :o|

  • XD LOL

I mean the effects..I'm not staring a Leonidas' muscles, if I were gay I would just go to a neighbourhood gym...

I meant the effects, and the beauty of the story itself ;-P

  • go die, you stupid bastard.

all the porn in the movie is straight.

  • You have a problem with that? It's a free world they can make movies about what ever they want even if they are as you so tactfully put it "war porn for adolescent white boys, nothing more." they aren't forcing people to go see it. Take your homophobia back to Nazi Germany, its the Greek way of life and was around before Jesus and the Koran hated on gays. And stop with the pseudo intellectual comment on U-tube, it goes over the head of 95% of the viewers.

  • This movie rocked... An accurate retelling of a COMIC XD But hey, for you history buffs, you can stick to your books :P

  • i love this movie but a little grafic on the nottie stuff! lol its the best movie!!!!!!!

  • great

  • this fellow the way the comic is told, but yes it did really happen

  • this film is not about history... its a movie about a comic just like spiderman and shit

  • i think its a cool movie, i like movie's that are playing in the days of the romans and greeks and shit, i'm dutch, but once i saw a movie about romans and germans, so i thought the germans would talk german or somthing dutch like, but they all talked english!?! that ain't fun

  • its so people can understand it, dipshit.

  • would all religion on earth and all fighting among us end if aliens from another world were to visit us? you bet your sweet ass it will. let's hope they're lover's and not fighters.

  • best movie!!

  • bring your 300 shit bring 3000 this time....we stand ready

  • ????????????????????

  • i actully paid good cash to see this movie twice

  • Scottish circle-jerk.

  • dicussing history and other serious subjects based on a movie which was made to entertain is

    STUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUPID !

  • they didnt produce thsi film for that reason....so check your fact..

300 is based on a graphic novel, hence the fanstasy like "monsters in it".

no as you said " hey produced this film jus to fear persian unfortunately...." LOL LOL LOL

  • I wouldn't be able to say, since the movie is banned in Iran... oh right Persia...right.

Iranians have as much to do with Persians as modern day Germans have to do with the Gauls and Barbarians who sacked Rome.

You don't hear Japan, Italy or Germany whining every time a World War 2 movies come out because it makes them "look bad" do you?

    Iran- grow up.

  • ok these iran comments are so goddamn ignorant, grow up. and as oppose to the persians, they shouldnt be mad about the movie, its fact, its what happened, so what they happen to be middle eastern, thats not the point, its like how the jews got mad about passion of the christ, like if it was news to people they killed christ, please, its a movie, grow up

  • Such an epic movie. Very powerful, very cinematic.

  • best movie ever made...

  • YOU SHOULD GET OUT MORE.

  • If yall were persian would u love this movie?...just curious...

  • It's a movie. Why do people take everything so seriously? I'm Dutch, but I don't hate Pulp Fiction and its bs about us, or Assassins, where Dutch people suddenly speak German.

  • yesss!!!!!

cause it has nothing to do with the real history...it's just good old hollywood bullshit!

  • umm no its not ? its based on one of the most famous battles in history

  • HOT HOT HOT MEN! SAW IT - WOW/WOOOOOF!

  • yees that film is avesome

  • He's hoooooot!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I love this film!

  • after 10 min fights movie become boring...

  • not this one...have you seen it?

  • that's so true !
