  • Ric kind of looks like Alice Cooper.

  • Summer!

  • Awsome music back in the days

  • I always wondered what happened about the time Heartbeat City came out that all of a sudden Ric started taking over the band and videos, and you barely saw the other band members up close in their videos any more. I wonder if it was him or the record label's decision.

  • The opening graphic to the video says "Whatever happened to?" The question is incomplete, as it should finish with "real music like this?"

  • @Unlitedsoul I watched VH1 as a kid all the time in 1991-1993, which is probably when this was taped. I think they were doing a video block of singers and bands who hadn't been around for awhile by then.

I agree with you though. I grew up in the 80s too and didn't realize how lucky I was, since mainstream music turned to shit now.

  • Great song and fun video :-)

  • I see titty at 1:42

  • Man this brings me back to my highschool years !!!!

If I only knew then what I know now !!!!!!!!!!

  • @OFDPOS Ditto me.

  • I'm a true metalhead, but I remember all this 80's pop music gratefuly.... Plus, The Cars always had great vids!!!!!!

  • @ponchorp I used to play a pretty cruncy version of "Moving in Stereo" a few years ago. I always thought that song should be remade by a metal band.

  • @ponchorp I'm with ya on that

  • @ponchorp

Cool, im a metalhead too, but before you walk around thinking of them as a pop band, check out some of there earlier stuff, like youre all ive got tonight, candy o and maybe some of there really hard rocking demos.

  • @natetheguitarkid Yeah, I'd say they're a blend of new wave, dance and AOR/kinda hard rock. Plus this song's got that Mutt Lange production.

  • @JPMcFly1985

Not dance, but definetly new wave and hard rock. Check out some of my covers of the cars and other songs on my channel, sorry there so short, i can only record 43 secs.

  • @ponchorp lol the CARS aren't pop music man, theyre newwave mixed with guitar rock

  • this is a really great look. i want his hair..

  • the 80s are over move on guy

  • @lildudesez6 i got gas money and the munchies

  • my dad is the one crazy drunk looking guy in the suit from 0:02 ish... lol!! he said when he was in either georgia or new orleans ( i foget the place) producers were just asking on the road if they would want to be in a music video! and my dad said yes! lol -__-

  • humans are 75% water. So if i can walk on humans, i am 75% jesus.

  • walk on water peter

  • oh he,s not god is why they took offence.only god walked on water.I think he is too thin looking here.

  • i'm a fetus in my moms womb and i love the cars!

  • @nilbog44 LOL--you are one smart little fetus.

  • Wow this is horrible! Was then, is now! Should be called the Ric Ocasek show! Yes, I know it's his band but damn! The other "cast" members of the "show" appear for the first time 3/4 in? Stupid song and this was truly when the Cars went from Orr to Ocasek....wrong turn!

  • haha I remember when they tried to get this video banned

  • @sln1987 I vaguely remember that...why? I can not remember.

  • @hutch1111111 It shows the singer walking on water, some people found it offensive.

  • read everything empty your self and fill yourself..watch out for daemons try harder. luck out open up

  • "Magic" is another Cars classic.

  • Great 80s beach song!

  • it is just hit after hit with this band

  • @Youngcallofduty74 I'm 12 and I like them too

  • Leave it to the cars to bring forth excellent music. Too bad nowadays all the rap crap hogs the radio.

  • Wanna know what it's like to be stoned watch somethings from the 80's

  • where did these days go? WE WANT THEM BACK!!

  • @qweenofflowers123 Relax. The Cars are back. Go pick up their new album if you can.

  • @youboxer Really? I told my dad we r so happy! Im SOO buying it! who else?

  • Comment removed

  • I had this song in my head all day today. That's the power of great riffs.

  • @Hunkola ur an idiot u dumb racist...these videos are frigging weird and ur just some white trash fool u stupid redneck

  • @callofdutyandsuch you ignorant chop!

  • @Angus762 shut up u european douche bag

  • you won't see talent or awesome videos like this anymore

  • I'm 49 and these guys rocked when I was 17 and they still rock! Yes, the 80's were great! Where did all those years go?!

  • Ive never found a band that had so many amazing songs..much love to the cars

  • Always loved the Cars, great song. Nothing can even come close to music this good today.

  • no no

  • @Hunkola I was ordered 2times to fight almost losing my life for a dumb mother fucker like you to sit at home with no friends, jerking off thinking of some hate group to join you pathetic asshole.Go get laid you will feel better about yourself.

  • A perkier version of the Talking Heads?

  • I never got what this video is about.

  • @SnugglySara: i don't even think the band themselves know what this video is about! :)

  • Ric is so white and pasty - I don't think he usually spent much time pool side... I think these were some great days when MTV was just coming into it's own and there were so many people making music video for the first time - they were having FUN with the medium. Now? Ho hum - just booty shaking.

  • @Merlmurphy Don't lose hope! There are actually still some pretty funny and cool music videos out there , you just have to look past the VH1 top 40 and stuff.

  • What about from the opening of the movie "Click" with Adam Sandler?

  • This is talent..The Cars are Talent.... .something today these so called artist.... a.k.a. fake entertainers don't have these days.

  • ric rocks !

  • 40 here, loved the cars since I was 8 at the roller rink listening to their songs.

  • Mutt Lange kinda fucked up the Cars sound on Heartbeat City...he did Hysteria shortly after doing this album and you can hear him here....I think he helped Def Leppard better...the Cars were already a huge american act by the time he did Heartbeat city...I think he commercialized their sound too much..a little too much gloss and background singing

  • I am 50 years old. McLovin the internet cuz it let's me relive all my high school songs. The Cars were huge in my day.

  • A well known episode of the tv series "CHARLIES ANGELS" was filmed at this very pool and estate in Beverly Hills ... the name of the episode is "Night of the Strangler", starring KATE JACKSON, FARRAH FAWCETT & JACLYN SMITH. There's a hysterically funny scene where a jealous bitch attacks "a modeling JACLYN SMITH at the pool" ... too funny

  • Saw these guys in 1980 great concert.....

  • Glad to hear some of you younger folks listen to this type of music.

  • YEAH im a 15 year old and i listen to the stuff my dad does. Kids my age don't know what real music is! CARS RULE!

  • @bnkmoss23 Wow! it's so cool that there's still some young peeps that appreciate the music of the past. I'm 27 and I've adored 80's music all my life. These days, the music just isn't as catchy or memorable. If Justin Bieber was in the 80's, he'd be eaten alive!

  • i love the 80s ..i wish i was a teen in the 80s

my mom hears me singing 80s song and she laughs at me because im 14 and im sinignng songs that she used to sing when she was my age lol

  • @Hillary442 Why do you wish you were a teen then?

  • Comment removed

  • @Hillary442 I was a teen then, probably the greatest decade in the twentieth century. Film, music, tv, etc. A time where artists weren't afraid to create themselves and be completely original in every sense. None of this nostalgic stuff like today. That's for people who are too lazy to do their own thing, and find it easier to just cop others.

  • why is the beginning of this song cut off?

  • born in '84, When I was 10 I would ride around on my bike all day with their greatest hits cassette in my walkman just mackin on all the girlies, such a PIMP!!!!

  • ah the days when vh1 and mtv actually played music BTW The Cars F*ing rock

  • What a Classic!

  • In case you didn't know, the Cars have reunited. Brand new album, Move Like This, comes out May 10

  • if anybody wonder about the meaning of the word heroin-pale, just look at this vcocalist for the answer.

  • I'm only 14 and I love the cars!!!!

  • @ivannahotty im only 40 and i love the cars!!!!

  • @ivannahotty I am 11 and I love them too

  • @ivannahotty same here. you're arent very special.

  • @ivannahotty Haha that's awesome, I'm 16 and I love the cars I used to listen to em on a cassette tape in my moms car back in the day.

  • @ivannahotty im only 14 as well and i like the cars

  • The Cars....incredible band...always a rich, big and bold sound.

  • Whoa. who are those blacks at the 4th of July party? They should be next door with the pork a cookin' . click click.

  • The 80 were a Blast!!!

  • @Cancon2011 thats the 70s

  • @Cancon2011 i think now is better

  • I think it was all "magic" in the 80's ....

  • GREAT SOUND "AND" VISUAL... "GO" RIC.. "GO"

  • GREAT SOUND "AND" VISUAL...

  • hell yes, luv the cars!

  • Don't be on my planet to be a "douche bag."

If your life sucks so much that you have to drag everyone else down, then FUCK YOU!

  • lol this is so 80's

  • @jcracker Better than the mudane crap played nowadays. Now it's garbage like Daughtrey or Lady Gaga or Justin beiber!

  • @jcracker NO SHIT SHERLOCK.

  • Can someone tell me what he says after "High Shoes with the cleats..... ????? " . The lyrics online says "a clickin' " but to me it doesn't sound anything like that.

    I love The Cars !

  • @Pedroskini

it is "a clickin'" :)... indeterminable lyrics are the best xD.

  • Rik you are the best

  • 2:42-2:45 Rock out, Benjamin!!

  • i used to get all excited when i was a kid when this would come on the radio, id jump around and sing along. now im 21 and i still do the samething!

  • "the cilck" soundtrack :)

  • Such a catchy song, it's a perfect blend of pop and rock but it's not really my taste because of it's pop influence..i like the catchy lyrics at the beginning, (Summer, turns me upside down...summer summer summer, it's like a merry go round). And i like the catchy guitar riffs, all it needs is it's pop influence taken out and it would be great

  • Summer ? Well it's starting to get mighty cold where I am (october Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !). Thankgod I've got The Cars to give me a little taste of summer again !

  • @9999pharlap amen.

  • beautiful song very very good!!! :P

  • Is'nt this what we call heroin-pail?

  • He sure acts awkward...LOL.... But I love this song....=)

  • I remember the story of Jesus Christ.. this is my best video ever.. i like the keyboard tune by Greg, and i need always to repeat the chorus its a magical tune fantastic...

  • Love kareoking this song. Girls go for this one and Drive.

  • @ReliableSunPower Drive is a really beautiful song, after all these yrs. I still love that song!!!

  • Can I have some of that acid,Ric? Please?

  • @arn0ldaar0n

lol, that was a funny ass comment!!!

  • happy 420

  • Haha...I never noticed before but read Ric Ocasek's lips @ 2:19 - 2:20. It doesn't match the words being sung. Blooper

  • Ric Ocasek looks a little anorexic in this video

  • back when music was fun and wholesome..

  • ICRT正在播這首歌...

  • @saxtman1 The Hearst Castle San Simione? The pool looks like one I saw in a photo of the estate.

  • love the cars . also thats a great goof on chris angel mindfriek walking on water

  • buena cancion

  • I think this was the Cars version of Culture Club and Ric is emulating Boy George.

  • MTV played this video once an hour it seemed like, i remember praying to the gods of metal to save me from torment.

  • @mercmarc This, and Money for Nothing by Dire Straits. Drove me crazy.

  • I like it but not my favorite Cars song by far.

  • shake it up is the best for me of The Cars later magic. Great band of the 80,s.

  • The 80's songs were so high quality songs, even our mamas and grandmas like them. I remember the mother of a friend of mine singing this song in her car. She was 50 years old in 1984.

  • Great song, but a stupid video. I've said (or written) it before and I'll say it again. The Cars are the most underrated band of the 70's. OK. I'm 55 years old so that gives me the freedom to say that they don't make music like that any more.

  • Uh its Magic!

  • this is wear criss angel did his walking on water training by watching this vid 1000 times when MTV was a watchable channel in '84!!!!!

  • ... terrific.

  • lol @ uncle sam!!!!! what a great tune

  • Who plays Uncle Sam in this video?

Great song.... just wish I was alive when it was popular.

  • Who was the guy who played Uncle Sam?

    Great song...

  • I knew the cars playing Rock Band. This style hardly will be find In radio.I fun Rock and Heavy Metal, but this songs style I like too and unhappy the radios matter with emo, black, pop worse quality. Its a pity!!

  • @Pictor100 Hahahaha...you're right...Hey Ric, pass the "good stuff" on, so I can "walk on water" hahaha...what a memorable decade...

  • The Cars were awesome!!. One of my favorite bands of the 80's. I was a kid wacthing their videos on tv and listening to them on the radio. Great songs, Great band!!

  • I LOVE the Cars so much.....I miss them! I remember seeing this vid when I was in high school and everyone wanted to know how they made it look like he was standing ON the water! LOL....things have changed. It would be all CGI now; totally fake and luster-less, just like today's music and "pop stars".

  • This is the first video I can recall seeing on MTV...a long time ago when MTV was Music Television...

  • @justtryintobe77 Now M in Mtv stands for Model TV. Back then to have a hit you didn't need perfect teeth and fake boobs.

  • @TheIkkap Yea no kidding...can't remember the last time I tried to watch MTV...at least I can watch the good stuff here...

  • @justtryintobe77 MTV now is just reality shows. Just a bunch of contrived fakes over acting, poorly scripted, poor excuse for entertainment.

I was 12 in 1981 when MTV launched I rmember watching it. Throught the 80's I loved the videos. Looking back now they I can laugh at alot of them but I still love the music. Rmember the daily top 10 video count down that would get monopolized by "Home Sweet Home" and "Theses dreams"?

  • @TheIkkap --we are about the same age, and its sad that mtv basically abandoned its original mission. i can remember staying up late in the summer watching videos. ahhh, the good old days. now, its just a waste of cable space..

  • @ReformedPastorJude Just what does the M stand for in MTV? All they have now is teenagers and twenty somethings embarrassing themselves on dating shows that are so poorly scripted I can't see how a person can watch them without being personally offended or majorly dumbed down.

  • @TheIkkap we can only hope that someone out there gets a brainstorm to invent a retro-channel that will play the old mtv vids--maybe mtv would sell the rights since they quite obviously arent using them. With so much other junk being re-run these days, i cant imagine that this wont EVENTUALLY happen.

  • @TheIkkap The hair metal days were the best. That top 10 also had the weekly Winger, Whitesnake, White Lion and Warrant videos galor. Remeber "W" for White Hot Rock!

  • @drnrg31 Muh Muh Muh Metal Shop!! I remember seeing Ratt and Poison at the Mid Hudson Civic Center. The sign out front said RATT POISON.

SO are we getting old and complaining that todays music is crap like our dads did or is it really crap? Today they have auto tune so they don't even have to sing in tune or know how to sing in tune. They just turn a dial to what they want. Anyone can sing like Mariah Carey with auto tune.

  • @TheIkkap No shit! Every pop star nowadays is a sorry extension of an 80s icon and every song sounds the same. Lady Gaga- Madonna for example. Therer are only a handful of credible artists on the charts like Train, or The Script. Anyway, whenever a 80s icon releases something new; I buy it. BTW, Ratt have a killer new cd out that sounds like 85.

  • oh the cars! I love them

  • ric ocasek bangs his hot wife every night

  • Why does the music always have to be sped up for the music video... I mean, this is a great song, but speeding it up slightly takes away from the song.

  • 1:20 - high waters, literally.
