I would like to change the tempo of a popular recorded song for a freestyle I'm putting together. I am able to change the tempo of something I've recorded myself, but it doesn't work on something already recorded. What am I missing?
Great video. Quick question:I tried this with great results but I found that it really taxed my system resources. Is there a way to lock in the new tempo in a way that would not pull so hard my system?
this helps in some ways, but i need to know how to set up markers so i can change parts of the song to different tempos. i want several different tempos in one song but can't for the life of me figure out how to do that. pro tools is useless to me if i can't do that.
@chadinterrupted ....add new tempo markers.... find what bar you want the tempo to change... on the far left of the time line there is a little plus marker... click it... add new tempo... done
thank you so much! the manual made me feel like a first grader in a physics class.....and sadly, one of my best friend writes manuals for digi....: ) not that one though...: ) thank you very much.....you rock....
Let me just tell you that your video helped me tremendously! I have gone to more forums than you can imagine. Only to find myself scratching my head. Thank you for sharing this video!!
can you please tell me how to change just one section of a song?say 8 bars and make the audio stick to the new tempo as well? every time i try i get an altered grid not altered audio. i want to do it for DJ sets and be able to slowly speed or slow down the ends of songs so that I can mix new songs in that wouldn't normally be able to line up (because they are way too far off. Like first song is 120 then towards the end ill slowly speed it up till the end of the song is 127 all quantized
hey man.. i gotta question for u? if u can plzzz reply.... um do u have to use a whole computer main strictly to run pro tools software cuz some guy told me that u cant use no internet and other stuff he got me confused...can u plz give me tips on how to install my pro tools into my computer..i installed it and it didnt work wit my mbox mini and now i cant unistall it for some reason can u pleeease help ..i would highly appreciate it ...thanks
If you're on a Mac, you can surf the web, get e-mail, FTP huge files, and burn CD's all while working in Pro Tools as long as you have a 3 year old or newer Mac.
On PC I've had some problems, so I play it safe and quit e-mail, FTP, and CD burns.
On either computer, you've got to read the Digidesign compatibility documents on their website and adhere to them religiously! No exceptions are allowed if you want trouble free ProTools.
I use a PC, and I also run Games and the internet on my machine.
Although my main hard drive (C) is audio designated (i.e no games or useless software running from it), my secondary hard drive (1tb) houses most of my software bar-pro tools.
I usually disconnect the internet, and close ALL software (virus, firewall, itunes etc) to get max performance from the machine. I rarely run other programs while recording/mixing. RTAS plugins can use a lot of CPU power, but I rarely get problems.
Dark... remember the scene in The Graduate when the older guy is giving Dustin Hoffman advice at his graduation party and says... "One word... Plastics"... Well, got one word to end your Windows/PC/Vista woes... "iMac"... I was a hardcore Windows user (still use it via Bootcamp) and switched to a Mac and have NEVER looked back (that was 2 years ago)... AND the added bonus is that I STiLL get to use Windows on the "other side" or in virtual mode... The commercials are true!!!! Best of luck man!
You need to double click on the far left in the edit window (on top of the color of the track) to open the color window.
then use crtl-option-comand key at the same time, hold and click on any color Dont release....move the cursor up or down and the colors will change. Do the same for regions colors. There is a video type color tracks in pro tools in the search field and you'll find it.
Well, that's the cool part, isn't it! You can choose the "varispeed" algorithm if you want to hear the audio get higher pitched when sped up and lower pitched when slowed down. But it's usually more usefull to keep the pitch and just optimize the tempo.
Yeah, but i wnt 2 c & hear him solo a trck aftr doing a drastic tempo change. Considering wht is taking place whn using this new ELASTIC TIME feature, 1 wld thnk this is another time stretch tool tht digidesign tried 2 make their own "New BIG THING". Aftr a temp chnge, does the quality of the AUDIO tracks snd WIERD? I havent used it 4 myself, but on THIS video we did hear evrythng @ the same time. If the trcks still snd AT LEAST 90%, close to the orginal tempo quality, only THEN is it amazing!
You are right, soloing the tracks is the true test. In some of the other HowAudio tutorials for their website I slow the tempo 40% and then solo tracks. Digi provides 5 different Elastic algorithms, and there's usually one that sounds pretty good on a given track. The time stretching after a tweak or two is better than any other DAW that I've heard.
