@CiDStalin : frenchs made a mistake when they refuse the bilinguism that the flemishs proposed (it was before WWII). But since then, we had a lot of agreements to reform the State of Belgium. And a part of those agreements concerned the french minority (which was actually a majority in some districts). We accepted a bad linguistic boundary in exchange of some safegards. Now the flemishs want them disappear. Examples : to be judge in our language. Inacceptable ? It "frustrates" nationalists ?

If I move to Wallonia I will adapt and speak French. But it seems that if French speaking people (I don't care if they are a majority) move to a Flemish town they need everything in French. Don't tell me that the French speaking part is not able to speak or learn Dutch.

Language you speak has NOTHING to do with majorities or minorities. You speak the language of the region. You know as wel as me that for most of the Flemish people french is no problem. How would you feel if all the Flemish people living in Branbant walloon would ask for Dutch?

We should organise polls among the populations living around Brussels, and to ask them if they want to live in Flanders or in the bilingual regio of Brussels. It would solve everything. When the linguistic frontier was put in the 60's, Belgium was not a federal state, there were not a lot of consequences. But Flemishs always want to change the past agreements : since they want to change the status quo, they should make concessions from their own part, too. I'm in favour of bilinguism.

@poelaertpieterjan : there are no borders, we all live in the same country. In the 60's, there were no communities and regio. The linguistic frontier did not have many consequences as today. If new powers are devoluted from the federal state to regios and communities, it is a modification of the status quo, hence it is logic that people ask to be put in the bilingual regio (since Flemish use their powers to discriminate and deprive them from their rights : electoral, housing, jobs, culture,...).

My great grandmother on my mother's side was 100% le Belge Francais. Didn't speak a word of English or any other language. My other ancestors from La Belgique are Flemmish.

Not to sound like a flemish nationalist or anything, I am not at all, but the problem is not situated in the whole of Belgium, but only in a small part of Flanders around Brussels. In this part, the French speaking minority became a majority by not obeing the law, and now they want to annex that part of Flanders to their own region (like wanting a reward for illegal actions).

Like the Palestines, flemish people are being chased away from their own cities, but in a passive and non agressive way.

I don't know. I read that the first title was "La Bruxelloise" (maybe as a reference to La Marseillaise), but it was already taken, then changed in "La Brabançonne". Brabant is indeed a province (region) of Belgium. Our first revolution, in 18th century, was called "révolution brabançonne". Pronvinces were very important here in ancient law.

De eerste versie in het frans is echt een bijzonder mooie versie!! Een zeer oude wel, de versie waar de 2de strofe als eerste gezongen wordt is al niet meer in gebruik sinds 1921.
