You managed to keep the annoying quirks from the original from getting in the way of the music. That's impressive. The questionable rhymes in some parts, for example, are bad enough in the show. I'd expect them to be even worse with a different style of singing, but you pulled it off. There are still bits that bug me, but this is altogether as good as, and probably better than, the original.

I really loved your work with this instrumental, but I didn't like the singing. I'm not sure what it is, but it may be the pronunciation of some words, along with the tone. I tend to think the melody is the most important, defining aspect of a song. Everything else can be changed - be it harmony, rhythm, instrumentation, or even some lyrics - to create interest, but fundamentally changing the melody makes it an altogether different song rather than an different take on it
