Hey Dave, Im wanting to get into archery preferebly a recurve or the reflex deflex, but my funds are limited where would you recomend getting an inexensive good quality bow and primitive arrows from? thanks for you time
I like how these videos all note that the "Native" stuff is the "primitive" stuff and the white stuff is the "modern/traditional" stuff lol. I just watched some other video where a guy is noting that "primitive" bows aren't 'laminated/backed' with anything but still mentioned that Natives used tusk/bone/antler/sinew and pitch to 'laminate/back' yet those bows are still "primitive" bows.
Even still, his "primitive" stuff has more of a sense of "realness" to it, I'd take the "primitive" instead.
Well, I dont have string nocks on my bow, I dont use gloves or tabs, and I sont use braces. arm Its just me, a bow and an arrow and i am good to go! I have been shooting for many years now, and my fingers are 100% fine.
Question..... With a self bow or primitive... if you were to coat the back of the bow with pitch or something similar... would that change the strength? Like if it turned out a weaker pull weight than you anticipated. Or with arrows for that matter. would that effect how stiff the arrow is?
Hy Dave, sorry to be asking this on a two year old video, but were can I get a good self bow (so I can hone my skills and hopfully learn it's design well)
Please tell me, for a self bow, you use dry wood or just ... wood as you cut it? :P
I always liked bows, I made a few ... but not so good (child bows)
I herd that ash, maple, oak, elm is good for a bow.
How do you make it? You cut a peace of wood and than you just carve the form?
I'm sorry if I'm naive and not informed. I found tutorials on the internet but they are just to hard to make for a first bow (laminated, a lot of woods...)
I'd appreciate if you can tell me a bit about self bows :P
All i can do with such a bow is loose a bunch of arrows in the bush.btwy someone left a lot of fine firewood to rot there behind you-such a waste i would never do this in my village. The arrows and the quivers a great.
regarding the primitive arrows, you mentioned the wood the shaft is made of, i want to ask how a shaft is made. is it a straight sapling without no knots that has only been debarked or is it a piece of wood that was made by splitting a log of correct length. if so how do you make the shaft round, without power tools ?
What kind of glove are you wearing? It looks very comfortable and pliable. I have tried different gloves and tabs and prefer a glove. But what I am running into is that gloves with fingertips covered in sythetics have great durability, but the seams on the inside of the fingertips are uncomfortable because of the thick, synthetic layer. Yet gloves with fingertips covered in doeskin dont wear well and with the first use I get cracks in the doeskin. Thanks for your help!
and how does the arrow fly straight when the arrow feathers hit the bow? i always wonder that? is it because it just goes so fast that it doesnt make any difference?
primitive means "less refined than the state of the art". And that's not necessarily true either. Primitive arrows, wooden ones tend to be very poor for practicing because they deteriorate from the kinetic force put on them and quickly warp after practicing for a length of time. If you get a carbon fiber arrow with the right length and spine and shoot it off a longbow the performance will be considerably better.
Hey Dave, I like your orange and white Tre camo fletching combination. I usually use yellow or natural but I like that combination of yours, Ill have to make some up.
i like ur zebra wood bow. i shot bows when i was alot younger, but fell outa it around 8th grade. its impossible for me to think about shootin again unless i used a crossbow
yes fox hunting has been banned, but only licenced exterminators are able to kill them.
illegal.guns, knives, bows ,crossbows, strawberry ice cream ,,oops sorry i think the last 1 was wrong but im sure some one will include it,so to practice survival & bushcraft is nearly impossible,oh and hand axes will come in there somewhare ...no England is NOT a free country, its rulled by the rich.so if you got lots of money its a wonderfull place :( i have no money so its a S**t hole

@reluctantprophet7 if you cover the back with sinew and pitch it would be substantially stronger.

why are there fluffy things on the ends?
and how does the arrow fly straight when the arrow feathers hit the bow? i always wonder that? is it because it just goes so fast that it doesnt make any difference?
JUKIO01 2 years ago
the fluffy things silence the string. and the feathers rarely hit the bow. and if they do its only a small bend it dosent make any idffernce
