  • Hey Dave, That's one of my quiver I made, The rattlesnake one. How cool this is for me to see it on your Vid.... Bogg

  • Man there is a ton of stuff I wish I could buy on your website.

  • hey dave do you think you could take down a deer with that bow

  • Hey Dave, Im wanting to get into archery preferebly a recurve or the reflex deflex, but my funds are limited where would you recomend getting an inexensive good quality bow and primitive arrows from? thanks for you time

  • where does one get river cane, is this native to north america; is the nock location is it dependent upon type of release one uses?

  • also whats ur websit called

  • is it possible to put a broadhead on my fibre glas arrow? its homemade

  • Mines sometimes shoots left or right. but its because i suck :P

  • I like how these videos all note that the "Native" stuff is the "primitive" stuff and the white stuff is the "modern/traditional" stuff lol. I just watched some other video where a guy is noting that "primitive" bows aren't 'laminated/backed' with anything but still mentioned that Natives used tusk/bone/antler/sinew and pitch to 'laminate/back' yet those bows are still "primitive" bows.

Even still, his "primitive" stuff has more of a sense of "realness" to it, I'd take the "primitive" instead.

  • Well, I dont have string nocks on my bow, I dont use gloves or tabs, and I sont use braces. arm Its just me, a bow and an arrow and i am good to go! I have been shooting for many years now, and my fingers are 100% fine.

  • Dave I made a selfbow worked good for a few days then it cracked. Can you make a vid. of how to repair a selfbow? Thanks.

  • hey. What king of shooting gloves are those? where can i get one?

  • did he say frog hunting.... i want to try that.

  • Question..... With a self bow or primitive... if you were to coat the back of the bow with pitch or something similar... would that change the strength? Like if it turned out a weaker pull weight than you anticipated. Or with arrows for that matter. would that effect how stiff the arrow is?

  • @reluctantprophet7 if you cover the back with sinew and pitch it would be substantially stronger.

  • Hy Dave, sorry to be asking this on a two year old video, but were can I get a good self bow (so I can hone my skills and hopfully learn it's design well)

  • what kind of wood is it? it seems like a eucalyptus, i make bows of eucaliptus and I get very good results. Greetings from Chile!

  • Please tell me, for a self bow, you use dry wood or just ... wood as you cut it? :P

I always liked bows, I made a few ... but not so good (child bows)

I herd that ash, maple, oak, elm is good for a bow.

How do you make it? You cut a peace of wood and than you just carve the form?

I'm sorry if I'm naive and not informed. I found tutorials on the internet but they are just to hard to make for a first bow (laminated, a lot of woods...)

I'd appreciate if you can tell me a bit about self bows :P

  • @Apokolohypnotis If you look at Canterbury's other videos it explains it pretty well

  • @Apokolohypnotis I think you craft a self bow when green then let it season then craft on it somemore

  • it looks a bit crappy m8 but if it gets you a meal who cares

  • All i can do with such a bow is loose a bunch of arrows in the bush.btwy someone left a lot of fine firewood to rot there behind you-such a waste i would never do this in my village. The arrows and the quivers a great.

  • hello

regarding the primitive arrows, you mentioned the wood the shaft is made of, i want to ask how a shaft is made. is it a straight sapling without no knots that has only been debarked or is it a piece of wood that was made by splitting a log of correct length. if so how do you make the shaft round, without power tools ?

  • any video with basic tips on how to make an survival bow like the one you have there?

  • were on your website can i find those arrows

  • Great videos with very clear explanations.

Im really impressed. The spine part made me see why i missed a lot :)

Time for new arrows , i guess.

Music from part 3 rocks btw.

  • i like it. follov my "name" youll see

  • What kind of glove are you wearing? It looks very comfortable and pliable. I have tried different gloves and tabs and prefer a glove. But what I am running into is that gloves with fingertips covered in sythetics have great durability, but the seams on the inside of the fingertips are uncomfortable because of the thick, synthetic layer. Yet gloves with fingertips covered in doeskin dont wear well and with the first use I get cracks in the doeskin. Thanks for your help!

  • why are there fluffy things on the ends?

and how does the arrow fly straight when the arrow feathers hit the bow? i always wonder that? is it because it just goes so fast that it doesnt make any difference?

  • the fluffy things silence the string. and the feathers rarely hit the bow. and if they do its only a small bend it dosent make any idffernce

  • dude your survival bow looks awesome man i think it was a nice job especialy considering the tools you used to make it.

  • plant more trees save the world.

  • the world dont need saving, humanity does

  • yes, nail on the head.

  • I just LOVE thoes primative arrows

  • i need help i want a long i cant afford i only got a knife and idk wat string to use and how long will ite last without breaking

  • Wow. Wow to all of it. I'm just in love with "primitive", natural, naturey goodness. Thanks for doing what you do in this world of radiated pavement.

  • i wanna know something.

    primative means man made right?

if it does, that means that a primative arrow shoots better with a primative bow

    (3:26)

  • primitive means "less refined than the state of the art". And that's not necessarily true either. Primitive arrows, wooden ones tend to be very poor for practicing because they deteriorate from the kinetic force put on them and quickly warp after practicing for a length of time. If you get a carbon fiber arrow with the right length and spine and shoot it off a longbow the performance will be considerably better.

  • oo.. ok thanks didnt know

  • do you have a video on how 2 make a primative bow and if you do can you give me the link 2 it and thxs man these videos are really helpfull

  • man they should make you a partner. you put out a steady stream of videos and they're interersting and informative.

  • i was thinking that for a wile man. he should be. they partner a bunch of crap chanles that put out half as many videos as him.

  • i would love to see a vid on how to find natural bow stains and how to apply it

  • i really like the way that bow looks

    rough and characterized!

the pine resin, pitch, sinew, and leg skin handle give it a story like appearance.

    512431 stars!

  • Hey Dave, I like your orange and white Tre camo fletching combination. I usually use yellow or natural but I like that combination of yours, Ill have to make some up.

    Jim...

  • bow hunting not permitted in the UK no offense but id not like to live ther isnt shooting foxs banned too?

  • yes fox hunting has been banned, but only licenced exterminators are able to kill them.

illegal.guns, knives, bows ,crossbows, strawberry ice cream ,,oops sorry i think the last 1 was wrong but im sure some one will include it,so to practice survival & bushcraft is nearly impossible,oh and hand axes will come in there somewhare ...no England is NOT a free country, its rulled by the rich.so if you got lots of money its a wonderfull place :( i have no money so its a S**t hole
