@theatheisticlown For me probably the purest adaptation of any Wells story would be the Orson Welles Mercury Theatre War Of The Worlds radio broadcast of the 1930s, I mean aside from transplanting the original Victorian story to 1930s America, it stuck to the original novel almost verbatim and terrified alot of people in the process.
