  • wow! you really went through a lot with your hair but you have a nice texture...i always change my style, (with less cuts) but I'm wondering do you have a regimine for hair growth?

  • Thanks for sharing your story. Enjoyed it.

  • brazilian song!!!!!!!!!!I loved it.

  • Thanks for sharing. I've had ups and downs while transitioning for two years but still trying to stay natural.

  • this was amazing girly!

  • lol OMG you can film a movie of this story ! lol wao... love this video..

  • lol. wow. great story. that was interesting, I cannot wait to be naturalll!

  • uuuuuh brazilian music :)

  • One last thing, so many of us want REALLY long hair, but a lot of what determines that is genetic. Try not to focus so much on length. Nevertheless, to help it grow, the less stress you put on your hair, the better. My hair is longer now than it has ever been in large part because I almost never, EVER wear ponytails. Some people can, but I cannot. The more stress, the more breakage.

  • Also, I deep-condition using Crome conditioner under a dryer after every shampoo. I learned to cut my hair myself after getting disappointed at the salon by scissor-happy stylists or those who either didn't listen to me or didn't shape my hair to my liking. I'm not an expert, but I'm getting better. I'd press it and flat-iron it myself, but l sweat too much and it defeats the purpose (lol). Remember, condition, condition, condition.

  • I see u like Brasilian , music lol ;) loved ya vid :D

  • @dedinha1622 ADORO MUSICA DE BRASILIEROS... I actually did this video while I was in Salvador

  • Your journey was not a wast. You were (and are) very beautiful the whole time. Did the Christmas light make your hair catch fire? How did you put it out? Thank GOD the burning did not reach your scalp and permanently damage your hair follicles.

  • @babyboom64 Yes it was indeed a really small candle hanging from the tree. I was very grateful that it didn't I was also VERY embarrassed because many ppl thought it was fake hair.

  • I have never successfully transitioned out of a perm, even after wearing my hair curly with a texturizer (mild relaxer). Every time I grew it out, it broke off at the point of new growth and I had to start over with short hair. I have not put any chemicals in my hair since early 2002 and I never will again. Pressing relaxes my natural curl pattern to the extent that I can wear it out in curls, but makes my ends too straight. Now, I press it every 12 weeks. It's natural the rest of the time.

  • @babyboom64 So it sounds like you too went through a lot to get your hair Natural... it must be long now???

  • @iHEARTmyhair6 It's past my bra strap in the back. I trim it myself every 12 weeks after I get it pressed and I wear it in layers. There are a few tricks that work for me like using a mild shampoo (Keracare) every 4-5 days when my hair is natural, using Vitacreme hair dressing after every shampoo BEFORE combing my hair out, always combing it out while it is saturated in (Pantene Curly-to-Straight) conditioner for detangling, and always sleeping in a silk scarf.

  • Wow! U did have some hard times. But admiration goes not to she who runs without falling, but to she who runs, falls time & time again, yet gets up, runs, and finishes the race. Hang in there!

  • @maximuslyricus Hey MAXIMUS... my video would not be so complete without a comment from you... my hair has grown since then you've seen my new vids...

  • Your hair is beautiful and time is never wasted maybe misused be never wasted. You have learned a lesson when it comes to your hair and that is beautiful all by its self. Thank you so much for sharing your story. It helps me to understand my daughter who is natural and she never wanted to go straight she doesn't want a perm or a texlaxer her strong will when it comes to her hair makes me proud of her. I am happy that she is proud to be Nappy.

  • your poor hair!

  • @48meditate I know but check my hair out now on my new channel ;)

  • Watching this brought me soooo much inspiration! My pic history would be identical but WORST! Thank you sooo much for sharing, I'm keeping the faith! I also feel more confident with my natural hair!

  • @fufefufe9 awwww I am so happy that I was able to do that... what do you mean worse??? do tell me more and check out my new channel.

  • @iHEARTmyhair6 You've changed ur hair alot, i have to but def not as gracefully as u! lol, its been a journey but I just had to tell myself I had to get used to it. :D

  • @fufefufe9 Ohhh yeah I have... I had to do the same thinggg just came to the realization one day that this is my hair and I just have to love it regardless... keep up with yours ok?

  • I use to have chemically damage hair,,and i never did a bc,,bcz i was to chicken sh** to do it,,but i believe tht you can still grow your hair long and strong and natural w/o choppn it all off,,and thts what i did im an all natural and my hair is growing long and strong,,but the problem here is heat,,you put wayyy to much heat in your hair,,the second thing is you wear wigs,,girl you gotta let your scalp breathe,,but i gotta hand it to you tht is one heck of a hair journey

  • holy crap. you had a Michael Jackson moment with the fire.

  • I keep asking myself why did I flat iron???? I know exactly how you feel..... Im about to chop again!

  • @PunkigJones10 Have you chopped it yet? Well you live and you learn and I've certainly learnt a lot.

  • Love'd your hair journey....I'm thinking of starting one myself now that I am 100% natural. I have been transitioning for almost 2 years & finally cut off the remainder of my perm 3 weeks ago and loving my new found freedom. I had to share with you that I too had my hair caught on fire at a Xmas party years ago by a candle I backed into on the wall. OMG, talk about burnt hair smell, good thing I did not have hairspray in my hair. But I had to do a big chop to even out my then long hair :(

  • @DehNaturalOne WOW 2 years omgoodness... OMG we both went through the same thing wowwww that's crazy you're the first person to let me know that. Was there any damage after? If you respond write on my wall of my new channel and check out my hair now;)

  • @iHEARTmyhair6 Your hair looks great & CONGRATS on your new channel!!! After my hair caught on fire the only damage besides cutting my hair above my shoulders to match the burnt hair I was continuing to perm my hair which evenutally damaged my hair even more. I had hair color issues, hair over processed more than one occassion, breakage....it was a mess. When I finally got my hair under control from finally understanding what's good for my hairm type & products I had enough & did big chop! :)

  • Good luck on your journey. Seemed as if you were unsure on the direction you really wanted to go; a lot of wasted time. Good luck.

  • lmao...YES AND THE FAIRY KNOTS......KEEPING NATURAL AND THE FAIRY KNOTS IS WHAT DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!

  • @janeblow80 haaaaa that's funny

  • can i have natural hair but still but braids and twist with weave on to take out the relaxer?

  • @Bella24Forever yeaaaahhh oh course that's actually a good idea so you dont have to be annoyed with the two textures AND HOPEFULLY YOUR TRANSITION WAS SMOOTHER than mine lol

  • that really was horrific omg and when your hair caught on fire i didnt think there would be anything else smh and people wonder why natural hair forums and blogs are so important...

  • @lorielizes super important see my hair now...

  • Damn sh got prettier and prettier with age

  • 2:39 perfect honey

  • yes the hard part is staying natural....I am sturggling but I dont want to put anymore of that CREAMY CRACK in my hair....lol but yea it's hard

  • lol. u went through it foreal. glad u learned ur lesson. this helped me cuz i swear i be wanting to relax my hair so bad so it can blend better with my weave. then i remember how pretty and sexy those big chunky curls will be as it continues to grow. also, u should try Hairfinity vitams. theyre AMAZING! worth the price.

  • I just transitioning to natural right now But im not gonna go through the big chop even tought its gonna be way harder to take care of my hair im ready for the adventure Im also making video's too check my channel... but doesany one have any suggestion or tips for me? I need some advice

  • @Mannuella063 what kind of advices do u need?

  • you will just perm it again because it looks like you get bored with one style

  • Curlformers saved my life. Instead "straightening" for a special event- I curlform and people love it!!!!!!!!! Best of all No heat and it definitely makes your hair look relaxed!

  • O no! that truly was horrific. cant believe ur hair was on fire!!! sounds like a movie the way bad things kept happening. Im also transitioning and have constantly worn half wigs for the past 6 months and have seen growth and thickness. the youtube community has DEFINIETELY helped

  • @liseebaby thank you for watching my video... my hair has changed since then so check out my channel. All the best with your hair journey.

  • o que e a cancao do fin? e linda

  • @ItsaWhitpookaThang a musica chama "Boa Sorte" de Vanessa da Mata e Ben Harper

  • looks beautiful, I have been down that same road- so yes you can do it, I am starting over after really 15 years of no perm- but I would put a texturizer in it, then cut it off because I wanted my natural waves back- so I going cold turkey again but with more know of how to take care of my hair. Thanks for the video!

  • wow , that was hair to terabitha and back. You went through some intense transitions and after it all you gained knowledge and confidence. I would say that is not horrific but very deep an amazing hair journey. I commened you.

  • Like the video, wow! You sure went through a lot with your hair. Murphy's Law, what can go wrong will.

  • you would look totally cute with a TWA, love ur curl pattern...sorry ur hair got burnt out, but it's hair and it will grow. ima keep watching youtube so i can get more info on how to preserve my length/ends..all the natural hair gals are inspirational

  • omg I am in love....this video is soo amazing ;)

  • Ohk im cracking up, sorry. Research is very very VERY important.....but so is a little common sense. don't worry loads of people do worse.

  • @athelija lol glad you found this funny... ohhhh I've done worse even after making this video... but thats what happen when you have the mentality that you want your hair to look like something else.

  • wow, you went through alot during your hair faze years, just like me, i wanted all the latest styles and color, but could not understand why my hair would be long then short. Im finally holding on strong to natural, even when timesd get hard and i hate doing my hair or it sheds more than im used too, i just put a style in my hair that will last a few weeks to ease the concerns...hold on and remain strong sis

  • Stay natural you look realy pretty. I will never do anything with my daughters hair, i braid it i twist it cornrows e.t.c but i will not straighten it. Im white my self and my daughter is half Jamaican and she has got realy curly afro hair. I will not take the chance with it. I do her hair and wont let anyone else touch it!!! xxx

  • @cassienjazmine, that is nice.

  • Been there twice myself. Live and Learn

  • @iHEARTmyhair6 you welcome hun

  • I love this video. your such an inspiration. Iv had my hair permed for years and hated dealing with the breakage and people asking me what's happening to my hair. But i haven't done anything to it for a while, looking at vids like yours and others on you tube educate women that they can be natural and beautiful.

I love it. And you are really pretty. Keep up the good work.

  • @19arussell Hi sweety what part of the world are you? If you need someone to talk to just message me your number/ e-mail which ever you feel more comfortable and I will be sure to assist you with this well needed yet confused time in your life. Message me at iheartmyhair6

  • You did not waste 4yrs...you learned what you hair cannot tolerate & you learned that you are a beautiful person with or without relaxed/straighted hair! You hair is beautiful, love it and it will love you!

  • I think the hardest part of being natural is deflecting the haters.

  • the hardest part about being natural really is staying natural...just patience...my hair is 4inches long and been natural for 4 months...just keep braiding wen u get fed up...thats wat i do! :)

  • wow i also tried the wig method and my hair grew so much...but staying natural is hard and i messed my hair up and permed it, and my hair broke off and became really damaged and back short, but since then i started over and this time i'm staying natural..plus i learned a few things, like olive oil moisturizing cream can be a natural hair girl's best friend...try it, you'll love it !

  • Love the music! :D

  • love the video

  • @sexxililmama28 THank you

  • you are so beautiful keep it up i love your hair

  • Hello, I see you have not been here on your sight in a while. I have a question to ask. Are yo of Latin decent? Brazilian?

  • @kenjayted No I'm not Brazilian but I feel in love with Brazil and left my heart there. lol

  • thank you for sharing

  • I really love your hair it looks really nice I've been natural all my life and i'm 20 the most i do is wash and flat iron it, or hot combs you have so many versatile styles which is really cool thanks for posting : D

  • i also forgot to add, you need to trim your hair to avoid split ends. If you can't do this yourself, get someone to do it who isn't scissor-happy. You only need to focus on trimming off the split ends of course. Also, try to avoid produts that have mineral oil in it. A LOT of black-hair-care products contain mineral oil which is damaging to our hair. I would just stick to using natual products. Don't do too many wigs unless you are conrowing your own hair underneath and covering with a nylon cap

  • @uwantmetoo1u ...why do you say don't do too many wigs and why do you suggest braiding the hair every time? I am a new natural, have been wearing wigs and have been curious as to the downside of doing that if there is any. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

  • @LuvinLyfe052 Hi - sorry 4 the late response. I don't log on often. But I say this becuz U can cause traction breakage (very easily) with a wig cap. It's not soft material, it's rough and will easily snag your hair and break it. White women or people with fine soft grade of hair may be able to get away with this for a while becuz of the texture of their hair, but we natural beauties cannot. It also wears out your hairline and nape. You'll notice a lot of breakage around the edges. Cap always.

  • @uwantmetoo1u - No problem. That's good info. Thank you! I didn't realize this and glad I know now because I've been wearing a wig every day. What did you mean when you said, "Cap always?" Also, is there a suggestion of what you could wear under a wig cap to combat this issue or is there nothing you can do?

  • @LuvinLyfe052 i usually wrap my hair and put a stocking cap over it and then put on the wig to avoid hair damage, or try not buying the wigs with the combs in them, i usually get the ones with the elastic strap, or if you do use the one with the comb, put a cornbraid across at the top where the comb will go and add some kind of oil or moisturizing cream to the braid beforehand, that makes it easier to slide the comb part in and out without damaging the hair

  • Also, NEVER sleep on a cotton pillow case, or wear a wool hat, or cotton bandana on your hair. Cotton and wool fibers cuts our hair. ONLY use silk or satin pillow cases, hair ties, scarfs, etc.

  • When you condition, put a plastic cap on, & wrap with a hot towel (never let the hot towel directly touch your hair, the steam from the heat of the towel, on the plastic cap, will help the conditioner penetrate the hair shaft. That is only heat you want to bother with. Get Raw Shea Butter & mix with a table spoon of pure organic coconut oil, and 3 table spoons of pure extra virgin olive oil. Mix well, part your hair, & put this on your scalp, @ least 1x a week. You WILL notice rapid hair growth.

  • You are gorgeous. Don't give up on your natural hair journey! I suggest NO heat for a very long while. Don't even wash your hair in extremely hot water. Wash with a conditioning shampoo once a month, and lather with Suave Naturals conditioner every two weeks. Also, try Garnier Fructic leave in conditioner weekly, and whenever you do rinse your hair, ONLY rinse in cold water, it will take some getting used to but hepls seal in moisture and aids in shine.

  • So thankful that you put this out for all to see. I too have messed up my curls and will eventually start over. Thanks for posting your vid b/c now I know what to do. God bless.

  • U R Very Pretty

Well Atleast U Know How To Treat Ur Hair Now

  • Great video. I especially love the music. and the styles you showed gave me lots of ideas! You look great in any hair.

  • I like the picture and 1:43

  • im sorri but the fir on your hair pic was funni you was smiling and your hair was burning lol imma just stop....

  • I love this video. I'm sorry for all you went through with your hair but you give others hope that even if something doesn't work or you have to start over, it can happen! I like that you're not professing to be some "natural guru." Don't worry, it looks as if your hair grows at a great rate anyway. Best of luck to you and I'll continue to watch your videos. :o)

  • thank you for sharing with me. love your texture and color.

  • it will work out!

    THEHAIRLAB(dot)ning(dot)com

  • How do you get those defined curls?? I don't like when natural hair just looks like a big frizz. Is it possible to always have it like this? - 0:55

  • @heysnoopyADA to get my curls defined back in those days there weren't all these awesome products so I was using a moisturizing gel for twists and locs.

  • whats the name of the song playing at 4:02??

  • Yea, over-processing your hair with heat can cause you to learn your natural texture. It becomes tantamount to relaxing your hair. I try to keep my mom away from my hair because she almost always wants to straighten it. But I've been working on transitioning for almost a year now so I don't want her to interfere with what I have going. I've really only been nourishing my hair for the past three months, but that's only because now I have access to desirable products.

  • I'm feeling you. i had my hair blow dried and flat ironed and was so excited to see how long my hair was but now it looks weird with multiple textures. i will never get my ideal afro again. stay away from that flat iron

  • wow I feel your pain...

  • that is one hell of a journey huh

but i guess it was worth it

  • @manjunglex It sure was worth it... thank you

  • I had a bad natural journey too (circa 2005) bc I didn't research how to take care of it. My hair has grown more since November 2009 to present than it did from 2005-2009....my own negligence. Some Youtube videonistas know how to take care of their hair LeoBody95 and RusticBeauty have great length. I hope to join them by 2011. Big thing is to wear your natural instead of trying to hide it. Learned my lesson with too much braiding, weaving and heat. Hair stayed at shoulder length......

  • I am so sorry about your journey, but there is help. I went Natural in 2008. I didn't know how to take care of it either and soon it started to break. Once I watched videos on here Thank you LeoBody95 and RusticBeauty. I have nursed my hair back to health again and it's growing. I shampoo once a month and I condition 3 to 4 times a month. . I use olive oil, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Amla Oil. Also when I shampoo I use a shikakaki & amla hair soap. The key is being consistant. Help let me know

  • to bad because you could have gotten the same results with a good flat iron without the permante damage of a relaxer!

  • @Piratejenny25 I know lol... but I had to study my hair and how to take care of natural hair.

  • my goodness, thats some hair journey

  • @lovelydiva06 hehheheheheh I know but I am on the right track now.

  • omg omg omg girl you and your hair has been through alot you should really keep the natural look

  • @swood0110 Thank you... I'm one year and 1 month strong now.

  • Your self made wigs are really nice!

  • @canthavitall Thank you... if you ever need one just holla... they last a life time

  • @gothbaby6 same with me, i wanted to go natural but it seems to hard, and i dont like weaves/ wigs/ braids / for me, ugh

  • @JSMILESz It is not hard you just need to know how to take care of your hair.

  • I don't remember ever wearing a wig nor people having to wear wigs. Just cut it short. Wigs and weaves are not natural hair. Braids with extension are also not natural until you grow your hair long enough to do them with natural hair. Seems you've never known yourself with natural hair, go to a decent hair dressers get a cut to suit your face shape.

  • @ckzckw: I hope this was a reply to me...these comment things are weird lol. I guess what I was trying to say is that I wouldn't mind going natural if I could find a transition that fit me ...I won't cut my hair short like that because it doesn't suit me. I want to transition if I choose to go natural. I need to find a style that fits me though...which hasn't been easy. I don't want to just go for it and then regret it later.

  • @gothbaby6: yes the reply was to yu. was v shocked that you thought natural = wigs/weaves/xtensions wen its usually the otha way round, least in UK. Definitely take your time findin a style that suits you, unless yu'r confident enugh to go super short dont do it. I'd recomend phasing in by using texturisers cause 4me anyway the natural growth merged in so when I had enough for twisting I could & did.

  • Also people with "permanently dammaged hair" not supposedly 'relaxed' hair also wair wigs and weaves and more so than those without chemically altered hair mostly cause of the damage and need to let the hair "relax" & recover

  • @iHEARTmyhair6 sorry for taking to long to response well i dont no how much sonner it will be but in april or sunnor i will be posting videos and maby " i can help u reach that link!!!

  • WOW! being natural is truly a process!

  • I see and sincerely comprehend where you're coming from with this statement.

BUTTT need to add that the process that led so many to be afraid of their own natural hair is far more significant. Being natural is being at one with your genetics and natures/gods creation

  • My suggestion....stay natural! You're beautiful that way. Those natural styles in your video were so flattering to your features and brought out your smile and eyes. You were glowing, so leave it alone. lol

  • I love that second song!

    <3

  • yes yes...im on the verge of going natural...i had really good hair UNTIL..i permed it..now im spending my time in braids growing my hair back....I wish i looked up Natural hair before i permed my hair

  • GURL, I know how you feel! I initially went natural at the end of 06 but couldn't stay natural! i would die, perm my edges and for some reason my hair just kept falling out! I wore wash and goes EVERYDAY and I didn't know that was damaging to my hair! So I shaved my head a month and and a half ago, and I'm starting over! I'm doing it right this time!

  • When I went from permed to natural I let the perm grow out and when it became unbearable for style I got a sew in. I did that for 2 yrs (getting it taken out every 3 mths, protein wrap and rest for 1 day then new sew in after 24 hrs) and my hair grew very fast and my curl pattern remains wonderful now when before it was 3 different textures. Coconut oil is good. Moroccan oil is good. Let it rest is best! Hope this helps. :)

  • Didn't know that you could spell "Brazil" more than one way. Thanks for the education. Happy holidays : )

  • It's good that you got rid of that strange red color ... much better! Good for you, going natural. Chemicals are a bitch. That guy is hot. You misspelled "Brazil" and "waist" (you meant "waste", I think). Still, very good video : )

  • @CheezInspector thanks for the waist spelling check... too bad i can't change it... Brasil is spelt like this in Potugues.
