  • this is gunna help me in the spring thanks, my curve lost its edge cuz my shoulder was broke last year so i gotta start over with holding -throwing-pitching.

  • you broke your arm through baseball??

  • thanks it helps a lot ive learnes curveball for 2 weeks its amazing i can throw it in a curve thanks a lot!

  • Everyones curve grip is different it realy depends on the size of your hand and rotation that you throw. The best way to get more break is to get a ball and constantly snap your fingers while holding the ball causing it to spin out of your hand. may not make sense reading but i throw a 12 to 6 because I do that so much.

  • ok this wat i need to know i am one of those rare submarine pitchers and i wanted to know how to throw the curve?do i keep the grip he shows?

  • Explained it pretty well, but you might not want to throw a curve ball untill you are maybe 15 or 16+. It's tough on an arm, and especially when the arm is not fully developed.

  • i just learned how to throw a curve a couple days ago mine comes in from the right to the right it pretty cool my uncle and my dad showed me how to throw it and this video helped a lot thanks

  • I just got my curveball working over the summer it snaps down hard.

  • Well im glad it works for you

  • Cool.

  • you can be any age to throw a curve but there is a proper age to throw them at so you do not kill your arm

  • That kid in the demonstration doesn't look old enough to be throwing a curve

  • if you throw it right it dont matter

    its all about mechanics

  • you dont bring your glove in you cut it across your body

  • dude yes u do look at all major league pitchers

  • swanee18 u dont play baseball right??

im a shortstop and i know that..

  • cutting it across your body throws off your body weight and makes your arm fly out and you cant throw the pitch to the plate

  • I could never get any control or velocity gripping my thumb how he shows. I snapped down hard topside instead of the doorknob approach he had.

  • the first time he says the grip he says your index finger and your ring finger, It's really your index finger and your middle finger. the secret to throwing a good curve is to not put your thumb on the bottom seams. you release the ball a lot better and it has a little more breaking action.

  • I never could get any control on my curve when i gripped the bottom seam. I also snapped my wrist hard over the top instead of using the doorknob approach he was using.

  • dont snap your wrist that hurts your arm and it doesnt even help the break

  • nice!!

  • fantastic

  • thnx

  • im pitching my first game this thursday and i need some help because i never pitched a day in my life.

  • Then why are you watching this video? You wont learn to throw this pitch effective enough in a week. Just learn to throw accurately. Hope your game goes well.

  • If you are having trouble with your accuracy, just throw the ball softer, without losing too much velocity. If the batters are hitting all your pitches, try pitching around the plate. Batters in these types of leagues usually can't hit a pitch that is not right on top of the plate. Good luck in your game!

  • you dont throw softer when your not getting it across the plate! when you start trying to aim the ball you get wild.

  • dude like i totally got ur shoes and im like a beast with my curve

  • haha :19

"curve ball is gonna be a slower bitch"

  • thanks im good at it now

  • you actually need to play baseball to throw it it works for me been throwing curve since i was 15 now im 26 and my arm is fine

  • does this video work the same for side arm pitcheres cuz i tried and only got 7 out of ten for strikes and i pegged a guy

  • 7 out of 10 for strikes is great when you just starting to throw it and as for pegging the guy that could happen no mater how long you've been throwing it

  • I just youtubed this for laughs

  • cool

  • wats so funny about it?

  • nice

  • this video is ok

  • damn.. after watching this i tried it i threw 2 balls and 1 strike... i had my hand on the rim of the ball and spun it in the pitch.. saw no curve

  • i can only throw curve balls underhand

  • Geez, his is so complicated,i do the same exact finger placement but i dont have to pull down and flick, unless i do it without noticeing....im still practicing my curve ball, its almost perfect, good enough to use in games anyways.

  • so i dont "open the door" or "snap my wrist" but i cock my wrist to the side without a snapping motion, is that the correct way to throw a curveball without taking damage to my arm?

  • thanks. I watched a few videos on curve balls, and none of them said to cock your wrist. I tried the way the other videos showed me, and everyone was just like a 4 seam fastball. I will have to try this method tomorrow.

    Thanks!

  • wow that helped alot. my mom didnt want me to throw any but now i can thanks. and he does look like glavine. thats weird

  • Your mom is right. If you're not a jr/sr in high school, don't go too wild on this pitch or you will wreck your arm. Seriously. Talk to a high school coach or even a sports physician if you have access to one. Trust me, when you're playing catch with your son at age 40, your arm will appreciate it.

  • Watch at 1:24. That kid looks like a young Tom Glavine.

  • holy hell HE does look like Glavine !!!

  • wat u guys talking about he looks like peyton manning

  • As you say, "Opening the door knob," will lead to arm and/or wrist problems, and may force a pitcher to end his career early.

  • Im not sure what you mean, im learning how to throw one right now and i cock my wrist to the side with my fingers pointing to the side, is that wrong?

  • Don't snap ur wrist!!!!!!!!!!!! You'll end your carrer really quickly

  • yeah your elbow will take a lot of tear.

  • Actually, if thrown correctly, the curve ball is less tension on your elbow than the fast ball. How kids hurt their arms is overextending the elbow and twisting at the same time. The curveball should be thrown with pulling motion toward the belt buckle upon release and make sure the arm is not fully extended but in a 90 degree angle. You perfect that pull as you get older.

  • that fish is cool

  • it's a called a blow fish.

  • I just figured out to throw a wicked curveball by holding it the normal way but bend your thumb so the ball is lying on your thumbs knuckle so when you release the ball flick your thumb to give it more spin.

  • dude dont twist ur wrist u can ruine ur baseball carrer dont do it puts more spin yes but u wont last as long but use the same motion just dont twist ur rist it drops just as much without twisting ur wrist trust me

  • I totally agree being a high school pitcher who throws curveballs without twisting my wrist

  • thanks

  • alex it dosen't mean since your dad arm didn't get hurt then it won't happen period. There's proof look it up know it all.

  • wow... at least show it us in action..

  • Thats bullshit. My dad was throwing curveballs and sliders when he was 12 and his arm is fine.

  • Thanks

  • I'm scared to do a curve ball now

  • how do u grip it 4 lefties

  • Same as righties

  • thanks

  • LOL, the fish at the end is priceless ^.^

  • they should make a video on how to spell eephus

  • on the video yu shouldve showed the person throwing it to see if it actually works

  • i hate when people say a curveball messes up your arm...ive thrown a curveball for a couple years (or had the motion down) and my arm is fine. (Im 13 years old)

  • Sure, it doesn't mess up your arm right now, but it will in the future. I guarentee that you aren't throwing it properly right now. So you've been throwing one for what? Since you were 11? Sorry bud, you couldn't throw 50 mph when you were 11. You need to actually be able to throw with a little bit of velocity for it to actually 'curve.'

  • Your name says it all. Lay off the curveball until you can shave.

  • stupid kid im 13 too it may not hurt now but it will my dad pitched for the brewers for 9 years so i know what the hell im talking about your arm is gonna hurt in the future

  • Lies.

  • Thanks for the righty demonstrating, very helpful

  • make a video on how to throw an epheaus

  • Err...index and middle finger I think he meant, not the ring finger.

  • A warning to all baseball players here. Do not (I repeat DO NOT) attempt to throw this if you are not at least in high school. Your arm is still developing, and this pitch can tear a young arm to the point of severe pain and muscle tear.

  • confirmed T.T

  • no iz not that bad. if u workout and u have a strong arm. i have been throw them and im a rising 8th grader.

  • I agree...the best to pitches to work on developing when young is the fastball and the change-up. Once your arm is developed then you can work on developing a curve. RichieVar is right about the damage that you can do to your arm.

  • that works mad good.. i tried it drops

  • Good, but you should have done a deminstartion.

  • are you sopposed to throw w/ a high arm volisity or w/ the grip will it just slow down anyway?

  • Excellent tutorial.

  • Probably so the instructor can "mirror" the motion of the lefty as he points out the grip without having to adjust his own right hand technique.

  • great tutorial.. but why always the lefty's in the video?

  • he's not.

  • the kid at the end is, thats what he means
