The Village people did the same thing around that time... Went all Neuromantic or something - Renaissance I think. Sigh.. Phenomenal output up until this album. Sorry I hate It. Always have.... I still cant fathom that Destroyer was their 4th studio album in 1976.!!!
Actually, if you are including the live albums, this is album 11. If you are including double platinum, it is album 12 and if you are including the Originals sets, it is album 14. But who's counting really? LOL......just being funny, please dont take it seriously. Nice work, by the way.
thanks for posting love this album. i wish kiss would play this live. they piss me off when they talk about how they give the fans what they want, unless of course it's the elder they want then they just give up and say they don't know those songs anymore or some bullshit like that. I mean Gene is the biggest money whore on earth and will put kiss on anything marketable. But, they can't even release demo tracks or play this album live. still love them just pisses me off
@darthinfurnus The mix on the European version was largely in a reordering of the songs which made it come across more like a sensible broadway production as was the original intent I think, and all of the songs flowed into each other like a story in the making, which helped make far more sense of the album's intent. The American releases reordered everything into the American marketing model of strategic placement of songs in the order in which they were likely to be radio hits.
@darthinfurnus I haven't looked but I bet if you look for the "*pedia" internet sites out there you can find the European release order. A few songs may have been dropped in Europe. None were added but extra time was added to some songs.
@darthinfurnus I just looked on *Pedia and seems it is the Japanese version you want. As I lived in Italy for 3 years followed by Japan for 6 it's easy to get confused. If you just play them in the order of "Fanfare" and see how well it flows directly into "Just a Boy" you see how the original opened more theatrically. I personally loved the songs from this album, I just couldn't stand very much else about it.
i loved The Oath. still do. During Pauls solo shows he did in Aust a couple yrs ago. He was speaking with to the crowd, and someone screamed out "play the oath". The next thing you know, Paul began playing the opening cords of the song. The crowd went mental. Pitty he only played about 10 sec's of it. but it was still awesome.
You can call me biased BECAUSE I am a KISS fan but I loved this LP from the start--even though i didn't know what to make of it. It's still perplexing. But KISS made the often-repeated mistake of playing to a foreign audience. And in this case it was the critics. I'm not sure that they have EVER learned the lessons from their past because their catalogue is peppered with departures that often miss rather than hit. But KISS is not PFloyd and I'm glad they realized that with this relative failure.
@scum777 I read the only place you can find and read the elder comic book is the recent KISS psycho circus tour magazine. I'd like to get it myself, the elder comic that is.
Actually the hand on the door is Paul's hand, and this door was part of the scenary made in studio. (manager said that in KISS: Behind the Mask)

Tho this album was very un-KISS like when it came out, I loved it. Still on on the greatest Kiss albums of all time.
Mr. Blackwell kicks arse.

The European mix of this album is the one worth mixing. The US version sucked.

Are you serious? There's a different mix on the Euro version? Are you sure?

That's great to know. I had no idea. I'll try to track down a German version of The Elder on vinyl with the KIZZ logo. Thank you

This is my favorite Kiss album. The guitar solo in "Just a boy" is (Imo) extremely well played .... Play it very loud and you'll know what I mean :-)

@RockJim72 I believe Paul plays most of the leads on the Elder except about 3 songs
