I've got Blue Belt dvd and when I have money will buy the purple belt dvds. The instruction is extremely detailed, flawless and smooth as glass. I would put Roy's instruction up against anyone's as far as quality of technique. HIGHLY recommend if you want clear instruction and proper technique mechanics!
Roy, I'm curious when you go for the Americana you never grab the wrist, but always pin their arm with the crook of their wrist. Any particular reason for that? Easier to switch to an inverted armbar if they straighten their arm?
Great DVD, fantastic follow-up to Blue Belt requirements, I highly recommend both. About 1000x better than alot of the rubbish BJJ instructions on youtube (not naming names, but they know who they are).
I got the DVD's and am taking a break from watching them to post here. Fellas these DVDs are no joke. If you're of low to mid blue belt level (me) there is a ton of stuff on here. And the fast pace of instruction is just fine b/c we don't need step by step instructions and there is a LOT of stuff on these DVD's. I am very very happy.
@JRT140 I totally agree! I own over 100GBs of BJJ & MMA videos, and the Blue & Pruple belt videos by Dean are truely awesome! I used the Demian Maia DVDs to work my way thru white belt and right under a year I was promoted to blue .. I have been using a torando DVD, Deans & Drysdales DVD to propel me thru blue, I test for purple this weekend 6/26/10. GET THESE DVDs and they are no JOKE! Don't try to make your knowledge database LARGER, GO deeper into your knowledge!
So is this aimed for guys who JUST turned Blue (like how Blue belt requirements is aimed for guys who just started out)? Or guys who have been blue for awhile?
No, this is for people who just turned blue, just like blue belt requirements were aimed for people who just started BJJ. I asked the same thing till I bought the DVD
It's a lock that Frank Mir did on Pete Williams at UFC 36. You can look up Mir Lock and get an instructional on youtube. It's also called Mushadori in Taijutsu from standing, and is in many japanese JuJutsu schoools and even in Judo as a standing variation of Ude Garami.
or you could just buy roy dean blue belt requirements...for a full in depth look on how to do it.... you should def get that before you get the purple one...
man roy holds his guys to a high standard. way to be!

Very nice. May I ask where you learned that armlock from the guard about 24 seconds in?
