@Aaron1912 Not its racist message for children , unfortunately, my dear Aaron . " Spain began to fall with the expulsion of the moors" Garcia Lorca. They tolerated well the christians, but not the contrary.
@trekkiexb5 the funny thing is that robin williams actually didn't credit himself as "robin williams" in the film, he actually made up the name "Ray D. Tutto" just a fun fact
@malakus Kind of. If you look closely you will realize that the director is the same, Terry Gilliam. Buy the way, he had a particular style that is on every movies that he make, and he could use his imagination to create the most unexpected adventures. This movie and Parnassus had nothing in commun in the story line, only the graphic style and the movie dinamic are similar. Anyway, I hope you enjoy them both. =)
Who thinks Terry made some brilliant fantasy movies in the 80's as a trilogy starting with Time Bandits, Brazil being the best of the trilogy and Baron Munchausen ending the series with a bang?
This film is an artistic masterpiece, although it was a financial disaster. Only the other day I mentioned it to my friends (who are all my age and I though may have seen it when it was released), and not one of them had heard of it. Such a pity.
Does this have anything to do with someone being trapped inside a whale, finding a house and then the house falls apart and they are eating fish that have come into the whale n stuff like that? :P
this movie is often played of as a silly meaningless movie, but it has some rather deep alegoricle content. if you are unsure of what i am talking about i an help you make the judgement yourself. by far one of my favorite movies.
I really like it. I think it's good because it's fun, has a great sense of humor, and you can easily lend yourself to caring about the characters. Imaginative. It's a bit silly. So, if you don't like silly--perhaps not. :)
This was the fourth film about Baron of Munchhausen (or in correct German "Baron von Münchhausen"). The first one was a French silent film in 1911. All based upon about narratives I think every German knows. They are accredited to a German nobleman named Münchhausen who lived 1720-1797. First written down in 1761. About at least four of the approx. 100 stories it is known the real Baron von Münchhausen has told them to his friends about his adventures.
thats fantastic! u feel the need to comment on a movie that 1) was a giant feat for teery gilliam, 2) has most been told in a differnt way that most pple u know, know... and 3) not all pple hv the german history that u do... come on! how old are you? naratives make the stories...
ON TCM I JUST WATCHED THE ORIGINAL GERMAN LANGUAGE 1943 'MUNCHAUSEN". The comedy element is there yet not as thick. But the story and special effects are very much the same. Think of other similar films of that era, 'Wizard of OZ' and 'The Thief of Bhagdad'. I had no clue there was an original film. It was GREAT. Worth seeing if you like this remake.
@jonebyezz2 I know I really love this movie also. I taped it couple years ago. My favorite part that I like in this movie when they go to the moon. And how the little girl get that scary figure of a skeleton away from Baron. Hey did you know that the little girls plays in this movie I think she plays in the movie called Romana.

I love this movie. My favorite parts are when the Baron tells about his wager with the Sultan and when the gang meets Vulcan (the great Oliver Reed).
The worst part is when the Baron & Sally meet the King of the Moon(Sorry but Robin Williams is not funny)
The book was kind of hard to follow.
My favorite lines from the Sultan's opera
I'm a modern man these days I find.
You have to be awefully cruel to be kind
If you search long enough you could download the soundtrack for free. I did.
