  • Drawing in hot air from the engine. Nice.

  • Uh 1.6 valve what the crap its 16 valve

  • Just to let everyone know viewing this video. Don't do this to your car! Unless you like to lose power and get worse fuel economy. That "hole" thats drwaing in air from the fender is sucking in cold air from outside the hot engine bay. All the holes he drilled just allowed hot air into the engine lowering the horsepower of the engine. less cold air is way better then more hot air.

  • AND. see these holes i just drilled. those didnt come factory. not shit dippity you just said you drilled them. and your obviously too dumb to be working at the factory. delete this please you moron

  • he didnt say 1.6 valves. step away from the car.

  • You have to be one of the dubest people on earth.... DUDE.... U DONT KNOW WHAT THE FUCK YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!! ONE POINT SIX VALVE????!!!!!! WTF!!! U RETARD!!!

  • WOW! "Sounds like the fast and furious", "Keep it on the track"?

You Sir, are a dumb ass.

Nice hot air intake, you just made it worst.

COLD air makes more HP not more air.

I just wanna slap you're dumb ass

  • Another problem besides you reducing your MPG thanks to the hot air intake is the fact that most if not all SMOG CHECK PLACES WILL FAIL YOU cause they will see the holes in the intake. If it fails visual...IT FAILS ALL. Especially if you're living in CA.

  • Drilling those holes will reduce horsepower due to air being sucked from a a very large surface area which reduces the velocity of the air into the engine also there will be turbulence caused by air from the holes and original intake hitting each other at almost 90 degrees which reduces airflow .If you hit a water puddle water will be sucked into the engine through those holes. This will also cause heatsock

  • Drilling those holes will actually cause you to lose horsepower. The thing is if air flows through a narrow opening it flows faster than a wide opening ,so if the engine sucks in air through a larger surface area the air velocity is going to be reduced thus the engine will suck in air at a lower rate. When the airbus is designed the engineers will try to make the surface area as large as possible but at the same time making sure it does not impact on the rate of flow of air ,so it's best to leave

  • @sunsweetsuitable @eurokid83 @chevysb400 you are all retarded. done.

  • you are one .... mother f...

  • the reason the air box is sealed off is because it pulls in cooler air from the fender than it would with those holes you drilled.

  • @ALLEN80Z28 The hot air is good for mpg :P

  • congratulations on your hot air intake mod on the old one point six valve lol,you are a dodgy fucker

  • One point six valve?

    Idiot it's 16 valve.

  • all that aside your almost outa gas homz!!!!!!!!

  • haha now its a hot air box

  • i modified it for free by having him buy a $50 air filter and tearing out some cotton from the airbox good one man you know your stuff

  • Please don't do this...

    NOISE =/= POWER

  • No one has explain this poor soul anything about atmospheric pressure has they?

  • Horrible idea

  • I have to complain... I did this to my corolla and when I went to the freeway to test it and when press the gas pedal, my car started to smoke the front tyres, the rpm climbed to 18000 and my speed climbed to 85 miles in 2,37 seconds tele - transporting me to 1956, you don´t know how hard it was to find a wifi zone to write this to you, now bring me back to my beloved 1985 !!! Fuck, this holy clock is working just fine...

  • lol you smoke weed mate

  • Bad idea all over.

  • "i drilled a few extra holes here" more like made swiss cheese of that air box...

  • retarded ricers.

  • hey how about a smarter tip. cut one side of the airbox off but dont cut too high so the filter wont seal up right.

  • U R DUMB

  • omfg world is going worse now, no more hondas its now vvt-i kicking in screw hondas now and he gets excited over a 4cyclinder oh and not to mention 1.6 valve...

  • this is dumb

  • 1.6 valve , vvt-i kicked in ?? what the fuck is going on here ??

  • seriously he said 1.2 valve erm..... Haha somehow that doesn't make sense

  • RICE!

  • i think vvt-i kicked in? really? vvt-i is just variable valve timing i dont know what the i is for

  • @krampp24 injected

  • do these modes help with mpg???

  • @ford460efi no dont fucking do this. it will make you get worse mpgs by burning more fuel when the computer compensates for the increased airflow.

  • who knew a simple video about getting alittle bit of power out of your car would ignite so much controversy! this is where they want us. arguing with each other over incredible stupid shit. it makes it easier to take are freedoms away when where worried if my car is blue but your is red. wait no its not! your a stupid fucker. no your the stupid fucker no you are no you are

  • @sunsweetsuitable lol your statment makes me laugh everytime cuz its soooo true

  • Dude you did such a terrible job lining up the drill holes so it can look so what factory. I won't let you put air in my tires.

  • thats more than dumb! he's a dumbfuck!!

  • Comment removed

  • "More air = more power" lol fail.

  • .... well try and use it so that it COVERS the hot air from coming in to the new filter

its actually the ORIGINAL purpose thats why toyota among others put em there and if u cant fit ur new filter just be creative make a box of ur own cut up some stuff u have laying around in the house it be alot cheaper. and that would actually work better

  • @0340miguel10 air flowing in the engine bay is not any hotter than air in the bumper or fender where the stock intake usually goes. My stainless intake is usually cold after a long drive, and this is with a 4" stainless intake tube with K&N filter, completely open.

  • @chevysb400 Actually it is hotter look up at any racing setup

the open bay cone filters are great view of the engine bay

coming track numbers a closed filter that grabs air from outside

and the fender gets fresh air from outside

do you know at what temperature an engine is usually running at ?

the air surrounding it is alot hotter than the air u can get from outside.

if u could get ur filter boxed and grabbing air from the outside it be a lot better for ur engine.

  • @chevysb400 watch this random video i saw here on youtube

that trans am grabs the air straight from outside theres a plastic box surrounding it so it doesnt pull in the hot air from the engine...

but if u wanna keep urs or ppl want to maintain theirs grabbing hot air from the enigne :) no problem you all can do as you all please

  • @chevysb

    watch?v=FHvwMkXwj3k&feature=related

  • @0340miguel10 so he added ram air to a ram air car.. I have tested temps in my car and others. free flowing air is not hotter than outside air. ambient temps from the engine may be in the 100's of degrees, but the air moving around the engine and engine bay is not hot. it is moving too quickly for any heat transfer to take place. One big factor here is it must be flowing air. my engine bay is very open, a packed bay would not work as well due to no place for air movement.

  • @0340miguel10 Also given the fact that my car has been re tuned for my particular intake and exhaust setup, it is running well over stock HP ratings & has better mpg's than what it was projected for (which were 25 city and 32 highway) average was about 28. Now with tune and mods, i moved up to 32 average with up to 35 highway and near 40 on long interstate trips. that is far from what it used to be.

  • haha free hp ? free TO GO you mean u actually lose if u do that.

because eventually if it pulls HOT air into the engine and ofcourse its worst for the engine

so not helping it at all :)

what u can do if you do not have money for a complete cold air intake system is relocate the filter using some couplers and piping (which means make your own) and im sure the cone air filters if u wanna use those arent expensive u could get one for like 20 bucks

also that plastic box from factory well ....

  • lmao, of course "he's not a racer" he drives a toyota corrola

  • @nicedude7 of course hes not! not a good one anyway... he punched it and took like 10 seconds to get to 60

  • Hot air intake love it

  • Comment removed

  • have you people ever heard of a short ram intake? they do help performance and this is basically what he is doing.

  • The holes make it worse. This is because it allows hot air from within the engine bay to be drawn into the air intake.

We all know that warmer air = less dense. Therefore your getting 'less' air into your air intake.

Plus Toyota designed the air pipe to flow enough air through the system at WOT anyway....

    So in short:

Toyota: Spends millions in designs / simulations / tests

    You: Guy with a drill.

    Discuss.

  • Its a good mod to make on certain vehicles. Done mostly for sound. HP improvement is almost zero. The hot engine are issue is a nothing to worry about so long as you drill away from the engine side. Boneheads love to cry about hot engine air but that is NOT an issue so long as your drill holes are away from the engine.

  • More noise doesnt mean more power. Such bad influence. Dont drill holes!!

  • just buy an intake for that car its like 35bucks and you will gain 10X more power than doing this my girlfriend has this car

  • how the do u have a 1.6 valve? its a 16 valve smh

  • now your rice car blowed up, YO!!!!

  • 16 valve not 1.6. its how many valves and by the look its a v8 witch meant each cylinder has 2 valves. 8x2=16.

  • @manlymud not giving you crap or anything, just letting you know. its a straight 4 4x4 vales is 16. only 4 cylinders there.

  • nice hot air intake plus any air coming in from those holes is gonna be overpowered by the main intake hole

  • fuck that cold air from the fender! lets drill holes in shit for horsepower! idiot!

  • 1 . 6 Valve? Lol.

  • @TiconderogaX damn... i tought my honda hatchback had the least valves. lol

  • @TiconderogaX yeah this guy knows a thing or two about cars! :D

  • there is a reason why there is no holes from factory..........if you drill holes in the air box to the engine bay you will get all the engine heat in to the intake which in return will get worse gas mileage... IDIOT

  • @951go

Heat actually improves mileage. Lowers HP, but increases MPG.

  • how did u take out the cotton gauze?? is it screwed on there? or do i have to break it loose?

  • You just ruined that air box on your friends car. The only thing those holes are going to do is allow hot air from the engine compartment to be drawn into the engine. The engineers at Toyota designed that air box to flow as much air as the engine would ever need at WOT and anywhere in between.

  • @eurokid83 have you ever looked inside the bay of a 03 to 05 rolla, the air intake is right next to the radiator, so your argument is invalid! and also how small the air pipe from intake to box is, he is letting in more air, even if its hot it allows more CFM, which means more overall air, although myself 1st thing i did was butcher the intake pipe so its open about 3 inch behind the headlight, which has a big gap where you would install a CAI

  • @TheDh0ffryn My argument is plenty valid my friend. Just because the air box is in close proximity to the radiator doesn't mean it's allowing hot air to enter the engine. Do what you want to your own car, I'll install a real intake. Carving up a expensive factory air box is stupid.

  • @eurokid83 Exactly!! Thinks he's a "Henry Ford" Trying to re-engineer stuff. Just wait till his friend drives through a puddle in the winter!

  • @eurokid83 seems to have worked on my car.please explain

  • @sunsweetsuitable "placebo effect"

  • @tav48 That's mostly what it is.

  • @sunsweetsuitable That's because the holes reduce restriction to the air flowing through the filter. It's like trying to breathe through a drinking straw and then switching to a 3" pipe. Much easier to breathe out of the bigger pipe. Put a real cold air intake on your car and you'll make more power than a cut up air box I guarantee it.

  • @eurokid83 i agree that putting an actual cold air intake is the best way to gain power but the single hose leading to the wheel well isnt helpful at all. the one on my lumina led to the wheel well and was enclosed with no outside airflow to it. as soon as i took that hose off and opend up my air box the car jumped off the line reved quicker. not saying it gained a ton of power but it had it available immediately

  • @sunsweetsuitable Any time you remove a restriction in the intake you will see some gains in HP, torque, and throttle response. For me personally I would put a good aftermarket intake on and call it good. There are other ways of doing it of course.

  • @eurokid83 thats what this video is about getting a little more power for free. what where we originally talking about.................

  • @sunsweetsuitable No shit. My point is drilling a expensive factory air box is stupid when you can spend less than what the box costs and get a real intake.

  • @eurokid83 ok dude i spell it for you...... thats not F O R F R E E. i at no point discredit you or say that you dont know anything about cars, your just missing the point

  • @sunsweetsuitable I know what the point is, I just don't see the point in ruining a expensive factory air box to make my car sound different and maby pick up a few HP. Not a big deal and not worth arguing over.

  • @eurokid83 then why did you just drag this out with me if its not something you want to debate or "argue" from your standpoint. or continue with several others. you did want to argue and your not winning the argument so your now tryin to back out the sissy way. im ignoring you now because your not worth the time. start a debate and loose steam halfway * rolls eyes * make sure your ready to fight before you get in the ring. im sure youll post something because its about the last word

  • @sunsweetsuitable Drilling holes in the air box is stupid. If you want to do it to your own car that's fine with me. Just because you can do it doesn't mean it's good. retard.

  • @eurokid83 With supporting modifications and an engine tune it can increase hp and mpg. Air flowing through the engine bay is not any hotter than air outside or in the bumper where most stock intakes come out. This has been proven on a dyno, with minimal air movement in the dyno room an engine bay intake with a cone style K&N filter made more power than a long "ram style" bumper intake using the same cone filter.

  • @chevysb400 Air temps under the hood of any automobile on the road is hotter than ambient temperature period. That's why on every newer car the air is drawn in from the inner fender or behind the front bumper. If I have to take temp measurements on my own vehicle of under the hood and outside the vehicle on my way to work to prove you wrong that's what I'll do.

  • @eurokid83 I have explained this up there to someone else, when there is free flowing air in an engine bay the air is not hot, its moving too quickly to transfer heat from the engine. There are exceptions such as an engine bay with limited space for air movement, and engine bays that are restricted by other parts of the car like a solid grill/bumper area. I have tested on my car in several places. the only hotspot in my engine bay is surrounding my exhaust header, far from the intake

  • @chevysb400 Not all engine bays have "free flowing air" like you just said. There is a reason that auto manufacturers pick up air from the inner fender or behind the bumper. Air in the engine bay may not be "hot" but it is warmer than ambient.

  • @eurokid83 I have never seen temps higher than outside temps in my engine bay, with the exception of direct contact with my engine and the exhaust. Getting rid of the stock intake helped so much. It is also about letting the engine breathe easier, i had a 2 inch pipe going through the fender to feed my airbox, unacceptable. I dont care what they designed the airbox to flow, it doesn't flow enough.

  • @chevysb400 I agree factory air boxes are in no way made for performance. anything you do to allow air to flow more freely will increase HP, torque, and throttle response. For me personally I would try and isolate the air filter from any heat in the engine bay as much as possible. That's all I'm saying.

  • thats a 0.5 horsepower gain for sure !!!! for free !

  • @HateCrew05 way more than want you to have for free and .5 of a horsepower will move a lot more than you think. i have weed eater engine on a mountain bike and thing does 43.4 according to my gps and it has no where near a whole 1 HP

  • Sure, the mods here will make more induction sound but- The "cotton gauze" is a carbon trap that is designed to capture unburnt vapors that remain in the inlet tract after the engine is shut down. CARB requires this for emissions. Removing it may cause you to fail California emissions testing. The plastic strainer (shown but not mentioned) in the box is for straightening the airflow across the mass air meter.

  • Crazy. Don't listen to this guy. If you think the factor engineers haven't though of every possibility to increase horse power and MPG, then maybe you shouldn't be modifying anything on a car, of which you have no clue how it works.

  • @kloveless82 Factory engineers have to compromise between horsepower and noise. Just like the dude said, not everyone wants to drive around a loud car. A straight pipe would allow the best HP, but be loud. Thats why they put baffles in them.

  • i would love when it rains to see how ur car will do xD better advice remove that white "trapt" bore the inside and put a bigger diameter tube to the fender with the factory water trapt

  • dude i would punch u in the face if you did that to my car and then drove it like that.......... oh and yeah its a boring car but u drive a econoline?? L O Mufuckin L

  • DONT TELL ME NOT TO STREET RACE !!! FK U I LOVE RACING LOL

  • I would never take automotive advice from this jackass. 1.6 valves? How the fuck do you get a half of a valve? Explain your reasoning lol

  • @chevys10guy1998 I agree with you. I don't believe his explanation that he was only joking around a little. I firmly believe he didn't know what he was talking about, and then later tried to backpedal his way out of it to save face. Oh well, like you said , just don't take his advice.

  • Trash Tuning^^

  • another thing, you might say 1.6 when you are talking about the engine size (how many liters at all you have in the chambers, etc) but that same car is a 1.8 liters engine also known as 1zz, there is also a 2zz and that one its the corolla xrs, engine size 2.0 liters . . .

  • @jpvnrally ...uhh yea.. toyota has lots of engines lol. whats your point

  • @jpvnrally 2zz is 1.8 too....2005-2006xrs matrix and celica gts

  • lol, "1.6 valve" what the crap, it means it has 16 valves, it has 4 valves per piston, multiply by 4 pistons gives you "16 valves". about drilling holes for more horse power I'm not sure, kinda share same idea from a conic air filter, more air more power but still not sure at all . . .

  • 1.6 valve... and you 'modifie' cars. Funny! ;-)

  • By drilling those holes you reduce the air suction which really results in less HP.

  • I've got a 2002 chevy prizm you know anything about modding the air intake? or anything else on it?

  • cold clean air > lukewarm dusty air

If you did no modifications to the size of the manifold or throttle body along with a new fuel mapping etc. the original design is the overall best.

  • It a auto - your friends a pussy!

  • If you drill 10 holes as compared to 50 won't really do anymore cos it just depends what the pipe above the filter can intake

  • it's that improving the gas milleage too?

  • wooow don't listen to this guy.. 1.6 valve? haha

only an idiot would drill holes in their airbox...

unless your a 16 year old that has a 20 year old POS that you don't care about.

your friend is also an idiot for letting you do that to his car.

you people want real help with your cars, check out scottykilmer he has his youtube account and a website where you can ask him your car questions and he answers every single one... was a mechanic for almost 50 years he knows his stuff.. unlike this idiot

  • can u feel the increase in horsepower or is it so little there's not much difference ?

  • u have termites in your airbox

  • 1.6 valves??? does that have a "point" between those numbers???? it is mechanically impossible for an engine to run with one point six valves. get your shit straight. stop feeding this bull to kids that want to modify their cars for cheap. guys if you want to see "cheap" diy car modifying check out mightycarmods on youtube. they know a thing or two about motors

  • Putting extra holes in your air box doss not help the horse power , It will rob it as you bringing in warm and hot air from the inside the engine you need cold air from out side of the car .

  • "Sounds like the Fast and The Furious" LOL. I'm surprised there aren't any 4 banger ricer comments because of that.

  • What an idiot doing that to a car. You FAIL to understand what the air filter is for. It CLEANS the air going in to the engine. The K&N has a much smaller surface area so restricts flow compared to an oversized paper filter. You have removed ALL the protection for the engine and made it louder. The holes in the K&N are 13times bigger, so lots of dirt goes through. The noise made is the air being RESTRICTED. You ruined that car from lack of knowledge & intelligence. Learn about engines & filters.

  • @urbex2007 Drilling holes in the air filter housing serves no purpose apart from suck hot air in from the engine bay - which further decreases performance. All you have done is damage the car and fit a RESTRICTIVE K&N which doesn't even filter, it allows dirt that would be stopped by a paper filter to reach the engine. Some friend you are!!! On a rolling road, I guarantee your setup would give a much lower BHP than if you fitted a paper filter in the correct housing. Search for tests on here...

  • @urbex2007 Why did you write to yourself?

  • Hey John I have a 2011 Malibu and there aren't any intakes out there however they do make K&N filters like the one in this video and I am wondering if I should drill holes in the bottom of my airbox but Im weary if just drilling into the airbox of a brand new car. Any negative effects on the engine by doing this?

    Thanks

  • You shouldn't have drilled holes all over the airbox. Only on the fender side. Jeez.

  • 1.6 valve huh? interesting cylinder head design ^_^ i know you were joking but still haha

  • DRILL SOME HOLES ON YOU HEAD !! i'ts a professional air intake source and help you brain to develope on the rigth way...STUPID IDIOT !!!

  • anything under the filter is hot! thats why they have it in there they know what they are doing. all you did was make a hot air intake and take out the silencer. This my friend makes your car a little slower.

  • What an IDIOT !!!

  • when was gas ever 5 bucks a gal in ca?

  • Cat converters n backboxes aid in noise reduction due to the honey combed material inside... I did a mechanics course... If you were to have a direct exhaust system without a backbox or cat then the noise would be unbelievably loud... Engines themselves are developed to be quiet hence the rubber engingle mounts and other parts to balance the engine which reduces noise...

  • To reduce engine sound they use a cat coverter... As it is the exhaust thats gived you a loud sounds... You know shit all about tuning...

  • @lukeyboy900 They dont use a cat for the sound, its to help burn off the rest of the fuel before its released into the air. it just improves the emissions.

  • speed holes..... The simpsons anyone?

  • LMAO 1.6 VALVE!

  • "eh a few extra holes here" Points at like 17 holes lol

  • how do u take that filter off from the upper part of the air box. u said that it makes the engine sound a little louder and stuff. how did u take that off? did u break it off?

  • lol vvti kick it lmao it's not vtec

  • On my 04 Solara its not a sound baffle its for emission control. You will notice that it is filled with little pieces of activated charcoal to help soak up emissions when the car is turned off per CA law (

I think). Perhaps it also acts as a sound baffle but that's not why its there.

  • oh dude u wrecked his hole set up...ur sucking up hot ass air from the engine...the holes on the bottom are sucking air from the engine and other shit thats hot down there...why would u do that to ur friend...he would have been better with a actual intake from fricken ebay lol

  • Is he making fun of that car? that's what I call "Rice and Ghetto" lol

  • @whitecani how is it rice? it's pretty much just 'ghetto' stupid

  • keeping in mind you actually have to draw in COLD AIR not HOT AIR your actually robing horse power with this mod. it would have been cheaper to get a cold air intake off ebay.

  • vvt-i, v-tec, they all kick in when you press the gas pedal to the floor, you can feel it when it kicks in

  • Wowww you have no idea what an air flow is...

Remembers me homer simpson making holes to the hood of his car to "gain speed"

I didnt belive that someone in the real world will do such a sensless thing !!!

  • Maybee next time you should dril the holes aligned. the holes are now random... does not make a diffirence but it tels somthing about the person who drilled them :D

And cold air is very important, so i prefer not to let hot air into the engine :)

    ...

  • ne tips for 96 impala ss..its got the lt1 vette engine

  • @bergaflickal sell your car and get a ricer

  • @crzystve42 why the hell would i do that?

  • How much horsepower gain ?

  • VVT-i kicked in? VVT-i isn't V-tec.

  • 1.6 valves ?? its 16 valves dumb ass...

  • wow some ppl are just haters if u dont have something positive to say about johnfromspace's video why even post and dude that would help with a few ponies and may be badonly if excessive heat was drawn in why be so rude u douche @ sergio120688 and @rocker4u123

  • Dam yall gas was 5 bucks a gallon in 08,,dam,what is it now!,,,we're pushing 4 bucks in alabama

  • wow you found out a way to ruin the factory air box and gain no real horsepower. Any power gains were mental in the ass dyno. I hate little 17 year olds who hear these magazines and ricers tips how to increase HP with high flow filters etc and think they know a thing or two about modding cars and increasing HP or torque. Before you ever touch a car you should know a thing or two about them instead of destroying parts for stupid reasons.

  • whats bbti?

  • @lostlove72399 its like vtec but its toyotas version 'variable valve timing intelligent'

  • the air would have been colder if u didnt drill the holes u tard

  • You sound like Randall from Clerks.

  • if you want hp, you need cold air , not hot air , if you want to put a good cold air intake put a k&n or injen

  • LOL I put that K&N sticker in the SAME SPOT!

  • @christophur87

    Great minds think alike =)
