Does anybody find it interesting that Soldiers get such bad press. Take the fact that we have been at war 4+ years, with a witchhunt media out for blood and all the cameras in country. Now ask yourself this, how is it that they can find so few examples of abuse. But perhaps the reason Iraqis are so hostile is because 71,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed since the war started. But don't you see? The main conflict is the civil war, and we aren't solving that at all; all we are doing is throwing innocent American and civilian lives into the issue. As for oil, there is some validity to that, but it's not the main priority by any means. It is important to secure the oil though and not let the insurgents get it. It would give them tremendous power. They would use it to gain A LOT of influence in the Middle East.

My solution would involve getting out of the middle of this 1400 year old conflict between rival muslims and instead focus on securing our own country, which isn't by any means being accomplished. If the Iraqi's request foods supps, building materials, expertise, or acute military action, we can supply it. That doesn't mean blanket protection until the Sunni's and Shi'ites decide to thrwo down their arms. Mr. Bush is trying to outlast fanatics and extremists! What does that make him?

If oil was the target, then why isn't gas $1 a gallon? Not to mention the weapons and fighters flooding in from Iran, Syria, etc. I guess we are responsible for that as well. I don't even watch cnn. But I have been around long enough to make a judgement based on what I know. This war is a mess, no doubt. I just don't believe for one minute that it was about oil. If that was the case, we would have leveled the place and took over a long time ago instead of being stuck in Vietnam-esque quagmire of door-to-door insurgent hunting.
The point wasnt to steal oil, America still has to buy oil from Iraq, just as it did during the Saddam years, they dont get a conquerors discount. The point is to control the flow of oil into the Gulf, as well as setting up permenant bases in a strategic location. Its still a horrible reason, but it isnt as simple as stealing it, its part of a broader strategy which directly involves the rapid industrialization of China.

False. Bush has never wanted Iraqi to be segregated. Democrat Joe Biden actually believes in pretty much the theory that you put forth, that the Shiite's could have one region, the Sunni could have one region and the Kurds could have the rest. Does anybody find it interesting that Soldiers get such bad press. Take the fact that we have been at war 4+ years, with a witchhunt media out for blood and all the cameras in country. Now ask yourself this, how is it that they can find so few examples of abuse. Sure, they replay the prison abuse hundreds of times and the few murders and rapes but cops in this country murder and rape. If you look at the amount of troops and the massive Op-tempo I think we are doing pretty darn good.

however I should note that many Iraqi's DID appreciate us, I encountered many during my times in Ramadi and Fallujah. "Alive in Baghdad" just prefers to show these kind of interviews that tries to play on getting sympathy and emotions. They don't talk about how some civilians get hostile and try to fight with us, then we have to take them out, they cry war-crimes.

There have been 3740 American deaths since the war started, so it seems like it ought to do some good. But perhaps the reason Iraqis are so hostile is because 71,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed since the war started. But don't you see? The main conflict is the civil war, and we aren't solving that at all; all we are doing is throwing innocent American and civilian lives into the issue. It's a huge scam to make people think we are doing something about the issue.

As for oil, there is some validity to that, but it's not the main priority by any means. It is important to secure the oil though and not let the insurgents get it. It would give them tremendous power. They would use it to gain A LOT of influence in the Middle East.

My solution would involve getting out of the middle of this 1400 year old conflict between rival muslims and instead focus on securing our own country, which isn't by any means being accomplished. If the Iraqi's request foods supps, building materials, expertise, or acute military action, we can supply it. That doesn't mean blanket protection until the Sunni's and Shi'ites decide to thrwo down their arms. Mr. Bush is trying to outlast fanatics and extremists! What does that make him?

The country you hold in this ideal isn't the same country we live in today. This unfortunately is a country who will mislead its people to wage war, then send you there as a sacrifice to increase their wealth while stealing it from the rest of us. Keep your ideals, I love America too, but don't be fooled that this has anything to do with them.

gas can cost $2 dollors a gallon, or $100 a gallon for that matter. even if we have an unlimited supply of oil, gas companies can put any price they want. You've been watching too much cnn

I don't even watch cnn. But I have been around long enough to make a judgement based on what I know. This war is a mess, no doubt. I just don't believe for one minute that it was about oil. If that was the case, we would have leveled the place and took over a long time ago instead of being stuck in Vietnam-esque quagmire of door-to-door insurgent hunting.

The point wasnt to steal oil, America still has to buy oil from Iraq, just as it did during the Saddam years, they dont get a conquerors discount. The point is to control the flow of oil into the Gulf, as well as setting up permenant bases in a strategic location. Its still a horrible reason, but it isnt as simple as stealing it, its part of a broader strategy which directly involves the rapid industrialization of China.

that was the most illogical argument conceivable. Do you think they went there to get oil so you can have 1$/gallon gas? That would be a step up from the lows they've achieved. It's for money, not just Oil. 3$ is more than 1$. It's OBVIOUS! BE A REAL AMERICAN AND GET PISSED OFF AND DEMAND CHANGE!

If that is really the case, why not just make it an even $5 and avoid Iraq? Then just think, all the money they could put back in their own pockets. I never said they WENT there so we could have $1 gas, only that gas prices wouldn't be so goddam high if we had went there for oil. And just how is it a good moneymaking scheme if we are already losing a billion a day there? AND LASTLY, HOW DOES SOMEONE FROM POLAND EVEN HAVE THE AUDACITY TO TELL ME TO BE A REAL AMERICAN?

Do you know where Cheney, who still has stock, was working before becoming VP? CEO of Halliburton, the biggest contractor in Iraq who is directly billing taxpayers 3.2 BILLION. Do you think it's a coincidence? This is just 1 example. But that's not the real tragedy. The real tragedy is that American soldiers & contractors are sent there to die along with a horrifying number of innocent Iraqi citizens under these false pretenses of freedom and democracy, that people like you dont even understand

Yes, that's right, they send them there to DIE... They don't spend years training them to stay alive. They don't spend billions of dollars on equipment to keep them alive. They are only there to be killed. Of course they know some will die but people on home grounds die too. These soldiers are willing to risk their lives to promote peace and they know how to stay alive better than anyone. Don't downplay their purpose.

Exactly, I was there for two tours and I sure as hell didn't plan on being killed. If it wasn't for IED's very few of us would be getting killed, the terrorists fight DIRTY AS SHIT. We own their asses in ground combat, they can't hang with us, so they go and plant bombs in roads and in dead bodies, dead animals, etc. Then those same IED's will kill innocent civilians too. Then they have the nerve to blame us for causing it!!! unbelievable.

what you don't understand is that the U.S. economic interests (Wall St./CIA) that started this war WANTED a civil war to happen. it's reverse psychology. look at what Cheney said in '94. everyone KNEW an invasion, with disbandment of the Iraqi army, would lead to civil war. purpose is to divide Iraq according to oil geology, and control the Shiite part (where the oil is) as a client state/protectorate.

False. Bush has never wanted Iraqi to be segregated. Democrat Joe Biden actually believes in pretty much the theory that you put forth, that the Shiite's could have one region, the Sunni could have one region and the Kurds could have the rest. The Iraqi Army is not disbanded, they are just a long ways from being ready to handle the situation themselves. I worked with many of them during my 2nd tour in 05-06.

Have you not been hearing about Chevrons "record profits" this year? The only reason the gas prices are so high is because the oil companies are slowing down the refineries that turn it into gas so they can purposefully inflate the price thus maximize their profits.
