I've worn bow ties for 15 years. Early on, the best advice I received was...It is THE SAME KNOT YOU USE ON YOUR SHOES! It is that easy after a bit of practice. I don't care for the overly loose knot that was demonstrated. A proper knot should firmly hold the tie in place, but the tie should appear to sag at the ends. Almost a straight line across the top of the tie.
