It is also good to remember that certain cultures would not listen to a Gospel spoken by someone with a tattoo, a cultural mannerism akin to Muslim men not listening to women or even not listening to a man who's wife is not properly "covered."
All this to say that great weight should be given, as Pastor Levi said, and we can make wise decisions regarding our influence in the entire world.
1 Corinthians 10:23-24 is a great verse when talking about these types of topics.
Oh man...let everybody get tattoos when they want......religion or no religion......If you want it, get it. Do you really think jezus or whatever will get mad about a tattoo? I resespect people who have a religion but a tattoo isnt bad stuff.
MY BODY IS DEDICATED TO GOD AND HIM ONLY. WHY WOULD I WANNA INK MY BODY IF ITS A TEMPLE WHERE THE HOLY SPIRIT DWELLS? I HAVE 3 TATTOOS ON ME BUT THIS IS BEFORE KNOWING CHRIST AND NOW I USE THEM AS A TESTIMONY AND THEY BEAR WITNESS FOR ME. I LOVE TATTOOS BUT I ASK MYSELF IN ALL HONESTY, WOULD JESUS HAVE MARKED HIS BODY IF HE WAS WALKING AMONGS US TODAY? IF THE ANSWER IS NO THEN I DONT WANT ANY FOR I WANNA TAKE UP MY CROSS AND FOLLOW HIM IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE.
So if I decide to stay in my hometown for university and I'm over 18, but decide to live with my parents which is easier financially, I'm a bum?
You sir, are a douche.
Oh and, I'm 16, and my father is taking me to get my first tattoo in 3 weeks, I might send you a picture so you can 'pray' to your 'holy god' for my terrible sin you fuckwit.
This preacher is a complete moron. Self-mutilation is fine by him. But if you're over 18 and still live with your parents you are a lazy bum who deserves to burn in hell.
No wonder millions of Christians are abandoning their faith and seeking more rational explanations for the meaning of life.
i was wondering i been yes and no with this topic i wanted to get a medium sized cross on my upper left back under the sgoulder with a bible verse in it would be glourifying god or not
@thefluffster101 Perhaps. But wearing religious clothing and jewellery isn't self-mutilation. Also, thousands of people with no religious affiliation wear religious jewellery. Just as thousands of people with no interest in Chinese language & culture get tattooed with Chinese symbols. Is this the type of person you want to be confused for???... If so, then go ahead and defile yourself with your pointless tattoo.
@BigEricHunt pointless would be a drunk man getting a shoe on his belly button would a cross be a pointless tattoo announcing your faith and some what of a tribute to jesus's suffering and pain he went through to give us eternal life?
@thefluffster101 It's not a tribute. It's ink in the the shape of a cross permanently embedded in your skin by a diseased ridden stranger who probably used the same needles & ink caps on some crack whores tattooed ahead of you.
If you want to make a "tribute to Jesus's suffering" then why not do something for humanity, instead of something pointless and unnecessary.
You can start by donating the money you would have spent on tattoos to a charity.
@duckjockey10 He's just fickle about it. It was wrong for people back then but now it's a Christian liberty, which may be the case. If you have tattoos great, you got tattoos. But for him to take a secular standpoint on it is seeker friendly. Marking your body is never an act of worship. We worship God in spirit and in truth. So he's just plain wrong about that.
@AntiHero2411 ok well you make a good point but te any way you slice it god doesnt care if you have tattoos or not...like you said we worship god in spirit and in truth,,,so or apperence mean nothing.
@BigEricHunt it isnt self mutilation,,,just because you dont like them doesnt mean its against God or a glorification of ego....Christianity doesnt follow old testement law anymore.
@Shambhalamama There are no western cultures that have tattoos for spiritual reasons. Getting a crucifix tattooed on your body by some freaky stranger with diseased ridden equipment has NOTHING to do with faith or spirituality. It is purely for attention reasons i.e. glorifying the ego (or attempting to).
If you already got a tattoo and realize that its not good according to the Lord, you still can repent. The tattoo might be irreversible but sin is if we repent before God.
Regarding the tattoos I agree that we as Christians are not tied to the mandate described in Leviticus (Old Testament) but we have to obey the New Testament (new covenant established after the 1st coming of Jesus) where it says that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and we should do our best to keep it holy. If God gave me a body as He intended it to be, my obedience to Him should be to keep it that way. No tattoos, piercings, mutilations or alterations unless it is medically justified.
@chanytube Awesome, I'm glad you've made a covenant before God. But, that isn't universal to everyone else, just you. If our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, it belongs to God, and we need to keep it Holy, you could also argue that no women can wear makeup, all over weight people are sinners, dying/bleaching our hair is prohibited, etc. You have to be consistent or remain silent. Don't say others are in the wrong because you made a promise to God. It's a choice, you chose, so can anyone else
@shipleyshipster Thanks for your reply. I didnt say anybody is wrong or that my beliefs should be universal. I was just expressing an opinion. Nobody makes anybody change unless they want to.
Isn't it written in the bible that our body is the temple of the holy ghost and that we should not defile it. My question isn't tattooing a sort of defiling the body? Thanks for your videos and please keep adding more.
@Corban25 yea really, if your saying body is a temple dont change it, then never shave or get a hair cut, and dont replace missing limbs or breast if a breast cancer survivor, depends on how far you, and not God, choose to take it like that
We don't wanna hear what -you- have to say about tattoos. We wanna hear about what the -Bible- says about tattoos. Btw. It's disrespectful to be wearing jeans and hoodies in your 'house of the Lord'. Amazing how far 'religion' will reach out to pull as many demographics in.
@whiskerstea I agree that we should look at what the Bible says to make decisions rather than man's personal opinions. But you contradict yourself when you say that jeans and hoodies are disrespectful in the house of the Lord. I think it's your personal opinion rather than what the Bible says. I don't know your background but as far as my own goes, the Bible doesn't tell us to wear three-piece suits or tucked in shirts in the house of the Lord. It's something man came up with.
@whiskerstea I'm not sure about the God you serve, but my Father, The Almighty doesn't really care how I look. As long as I'm worshipping Him with all of my heart He's content.
@whiskerstea how so...the lord says come to me as you are....it doesnt say "come to me in your 3 piece suit and easter dress..you need to get yourself rigt with god rather than worrying about whether or not someone is dressed the way you think someone should at church. God is about a personal relationship with each and every person, not what that person is wearing...you have your priorities mixed up.

@thefluffster101 No. As I've said in other postings, you would be glorifying the ego through self mutilation.
Why do you want this tattoo? To upload it on YouTube and present it to the world as "evidence" of your faith? That's pure ego.
