i have read many books over the years but Wesley the owl was one that was both inspiring and heart warming. This book truly shows "The way of the owl."
I heard about this book on NPR a few months ago and thought, " I'd really like to read that." Then, sadly, I forgot about it. About a month ago, I was in a used bookshop, and this book, popped out. It was the only copy on the shelf and I'd recalled wanting to read it. I finally started reading it a day ago and am so touched by Wesley, his antics and the love he shared with Stacey. Perhaps this book (and another I had bought that day, by Jane Goodall) will push me to study biology! Thank you!
in gerald durrells corfu trilogy he adopted a little owl called ulysses who such personality and used to ride gerrys dog and they would go on boat trips together.

By far the Best book I've ever read. I have a twelve month old barn owl who is truly my best friend and forever in my heart . When bad days arrive a minute in his prescence and all your troubles fade. His name...... Wesley, of course!!!!
"This is a short film based on a true story that I heard when I was travelling in Morocco. Of all the cast, only the owl is a professional actor", says director Halima Ouardiri.
You can watch the short film (live action) Mokhtar online on YouTube until May 18. I think you'll find it interesting.
I have read alot of books, but yours is the best in my opinion, if you just want to see how intelligent an owl can be, or if you want to feel really good, however I wept at the close, I still do when I ponder. Wesley came to life as I read his life, Oh! to have known him, but in a very real sense, I have. Thank you!
I love animals and this book is a must read for animal lovers. A very heartwarming story. I cried at the end. Thank you for sharing your life with such a loving animal. I am not sure "animal" is the correct word for Wesley.
Anyone who has the privilege of receiving unconditional love and complete trust from an animal can consider his/her life to be fulfilled. Stacey, you are without a doubt a special person. Your story about Wesley melted my heart and brought me to tears. You've opened my eyes and heart a little more. Thanks
i love this book it's my most prized possestion. It's amazing how such an animal can love a human. i agree with stacy, as she said in the book wesley was an angel. I LOVE OWLS!!!!
Thank you, Stacy, and thanks to Carlos Royal (Mollys Owl Box) for telling us about you and your book and giving this link. If you have any more video, please, please post it for us. I saw Molly cuddling like that with her owlets and it was so beautiful I couldn't stop watching. Seeing it with Wesley and you is to walk on Cloud 9. More, please!
I am buying this book tomorrow. For the past month and a half I have been watch The Owl Box (live video feed of an owl and her babies). It has really been an interesting experience seeing wild life up close. I want to find out more about these great birds.
My grandma got the book for me because she know how much I love animals. This story changed my life. I'm not religious, but there is no doubt is my mind that Wesley was an angel.
I never thought much about owls at the time until my teacher showed the book to me and just reading it taught me a lot and how amazingly wonderful owls are it was very wonderful and truly amazing
I work as a volunteer at a wild bird hospital in California, where we treat aquatic birds. I don't know little about owls.
A friend gave me this book and I can't put it down! I'm learning so much about Barn Owls. I recommend this book to everyone. I'm buying several copies for gifts. :)
I intend to reread this book again . I want to really look for anything I might have missed and just get the feel of the relationship.
That is the wonderful thing. Every time you start to reread the book, Wesley is alive again , a baby and then a young adult etc. The cycle returns as often as one wants through this wonderful window into the souls of two amazing beings.
This book is in memoriam to the life of Wesley and to the love he and Stacy shared. I think toward the end when he was shrieking and Stacy had to sleep apart, he may have been in pain from the cancer. It is amazing that both Stacy and Wesley became so deathly ill at the same time.-the bond was so strong. With this book, Stacy has caused people around the world to fall in love with Wesley. I know I have, I believe he is with her in spirit. God Bless them both !!
My dad brought home an injured great horned owl and we named him Hoot I loved watching him from my bedroom window at night those big yellow eyes were amazing . We kept him in an old chicken coop. Dad used to wear an old welding glove and a leash on his foot and ride a bike and Hoot would spread his wings and pretend he was flying again. I loved the story of Wesley it is amazing what we can learn from animals if we are willing to listen on thier terms.
i've always loved owls, and i just finished this book the other day. i totally cried at the end, but that was expected. i felt like i knew the both of them by the end of the book, and i didnt want it to end. what an amazing story. i vist owls that cant be released into the wild, and whenever i see them, i will think of wesley from now on.
It seems that we can learn much from Owls, or for that matter all of the animal kingdom!! Wesley became Stacey's soulmate... and there's no doubt that the mutual love helped bring Stacey through her illness! Five Winged Stars *****
Hello Stacey, I have just finished reading your incredible beautiful book on Wesley. I couldn't stop crying at the end of this moving and emotional book. I was happy to learn that you faught your illness but of course saddened for your loss.
I just finished reading "Wesley the Owl" (literally as long ago as it takes to turn on a computer and do a google search). A friend got it for me as a "funny gift" because she knew I liked owls... but didn't think I'd want to read a story about one.
As it turns out, I flipped it open and couldn't stop reading after learning that barn owls smell like butterscotch. This is a beautiful story. The writing was perfect: not gushy, fake, or any of the traits I expected an animal story to be. Thank you!
Hi Stacey, I'm almost finished with your book....don't know if I can bear to read the ending as I've grown so attached to Wesley.Thank you so much for sharing your most incredible story with the world. I'm planning to write a song in honor of you and Wesley. Thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you so much, Stacey, for sharing your incredible experience and knowledge of this amazing, gentle soul. Soulmates come in all shapes, sizes, and species. What a beautiful tribute to your sweet Wesley. And, I agree with Sylvie, you look great Stacey. You are beautiful inside and out!
Thank you so much for this amazing story. I have to get this book. Have always loved owls but I dont know a lot about them. Wesley was gorgeous! I am also happy his human friend is well. This is a wonderful story * but I do feel sorry for the mice...I know its nature, but still...
This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read.. I would have to say it was a poingant and lifechanging journey till the very last tear filled page. Thank you Stacey for allowing us all to Love Wesley. I am sure he will be with you in your heart till the end of your days :)
...continue from below.......The one thing that I try to focus on now is really living life to the fullest. In some ways, my cat held me back from living. That was mainly my fault because I wanted to be a good mom. In the past 4 months, I've been on two vacations and it feels great. In someway I think Sebastian left this world so that I would start living more. I don't think I'll be ready for another animal anytime soon. Someday I will be open to it, but for now, I just keep living. -Julie
I am only on page 83 in the book. I was drawn to this book while in the bookstore because 4 months ago, I lost a very important companion in my life. My beautiful brown tabby and white persian. I had him for 11 years and prayed everyday I would have him in my life longer. He meant the world to me. I would always tell everyone that he was my soul mate. The times we shared were so special. The loss of a companion is so hard. Moving on is hard and the grief is harder.
How he loved you, Stacey! I can't tell you how much it means to actually see this on video. Your book tells the beautiful story but the cliche "A picture is worth a thousand words" is so true here. Thank you.
I read the book about Wesley and was very taken with all the effort you put into helping him to survive. Loved the story of the visiting wild owls at the window :) Thank you for sharing your journey with him. Be well ♥
