Many thanks for posting this rare ad. I had an Astro-Nautilus back in the 60s but had forgotten all about it till recently. Wish I had kept it now. Very rare as few were produced -- and selling for big buck on eBay etc.
I had "3-way" adventures w/ the Zeroids added into the mix;; Ideal "Motorific" mini-motors powering Zeroid robots were so powerful that you could've them carry Matt Mason, Sgt. Storm, Jeff Long, & Doug Davis piggyback, & also smaller Outer Space Men like Alpha 7, Xodiac, Electron +, but a No-Go for Commander Comet, Colossus Rex, Orbitron, & Aqua-Nautilus;
All the same scale, but from 3 different manufacturers, Colorforms, Mattel, & Ideal, toy designers/makers were savvy then;)
@thesurpriseshow Sounds like you had a childhood rich in toy-tastic memories! if you're interested. Four Horsemen Design Studios is releasing a new line of OSM figures next month. Check it out!
I just happened to check the Four Horseman's website and saw that they are bringing these back. I remember these when I was a kid on the Colorforms box and wanted them badly! For years I was hoping for these. They have stayed in my memory all these years and I am thrilled I can finally get a hold of them. These are still unique, artistic, creative and stand in a category all their own. The Four Horseman and Mel Birnkrant...what a combo! I don't collect much anymore but I am going to get these!
Oh my God, I'm not sure I ever saw the commercial back then but my brothers and I had all of these figures! Still do, though they're much worse for wear! :-)
@Punktowner You're in luck! THE OUTER SPACE MEN are back! The Four Horsemen toy designers have created an awesome new line of OSM debuting at SDCC! Also check out the comic written by yours truly on Amazon.
These figures brought such joy when I was a kid - the Octopus creature, The Venusian with his crossbow, etc. - made my parents drive me to every godforsaken department store in the world to complete the "collection" - thanks for posting!!
I had these as a kid and loved them... this is one of the rare toys that I still have ... I still have Colossus Rex (from Jupiter), Xodiac (from Saturn), Orbitron (Uranus), and Electron+ (Pluto)...I also have a miniature Alpha-7 (from Mars). I forgot who that winged dude was, but I had him when I was a kid, but lost him. I'm thinking he was from Venus, and you could remove the wings (which plugged into his back).
thank you so much! did he say magical space helmets? he did. haha. awesome. those were the days. I still have Alpha, minus an arm. there's a new comic book about them out soon.
Oh my God, Oh my God. I haven't seen this since the late 60's. I had 4 of them that went with my Matt Mason stuff. These were some of the most original figures ever produced in the 60's. And they were COOL too.
Had Colossus and Alpha 7, loved 'em both. I have a tiny hard plastic repro of Alpha that was available until a few years ago at novelty stores. I don't think you can get them anymore.
I rember the other commercial where clossis rex was bured in the sand and the small one was on a record player. had the cupid man and neptune man as a kid .
They are so awesome :)

This is fantastic! I haven't seen this commercial for ages!
I went running to Woolworth's as soon as I could, to get a hold of the Martian creature. I had the octopus headed guy, too.
Now I'm a toy designer and I can see how much these guys informed my present style and design tastes. Lots of happy childhood toy memories.

Exactly! They worked perfectly in the Major Matt Mason environment as allies and adversaries. I think we had more fun than kids do nowadays.

With my luck, I'd be one of the "interplanetary companions."
There's just no justice in this universe.
