  • I've always listen to JR's songs on the Martin Blocks radio shot top ten...His best too me was (the Little White Cloud) & (Cry)

  • This was the number one song the week of my birth.

  • This hit by Guy Mitchell was the 20th #1 song in the United Kingdom of the Rock Era. It would hit #1 three times in the UK. That is probably the only time that has happened on any chart. It was the first new #1 in the UK in 1957.

  • he looks like my grandad :( <3

  • Cliff Richard also sang this one brilliantly!

  • @John1948five,

Actually this song went #1 on December 8 1956 on the Billboard Best Seller chart.

  • Why sings the blues with all thay happy whistling? Guy Mitchell totally misintepreted this great Marty Robbins song.

  • @glipzik - hahaha! weird and funny that whistling sounds...

  • :D . . . duuuuuuude . . . ta muchly.

  • <3

  • I'm sure the orchestra and chorus that accompanied him are Ray Conniff's! Am I right?? Please correct me if not... :)

  • This was a great favourite on the jukebox in the New London Bar in Singapore in 1957. Happy days.

  • Macclesfield Town FC!

  • @VStocker14 haha im from macc xD

  • Love this song, also like truly truly, i rember me mam always playing his songs, better than the crap we get now

  • Guy Mitchell gave us unforgettable great music. I remember well, were in the 70's "Singing the Blues," "Heartaches by the number" and "Rock-a-billy" played by him often on German radio. Even today, always nice to hear. Thanks for uploading with best wishes from Germany.

  • aw grandad i miss u :'( guy mitchell u rock

  • Oh I never felt more like singing the blues when Forest win and Derby loose ohh you got me singing the blues SING SING SING

  • nice version, but this is an out take, not the original. We had the original 45 and I wore the grooves out.

  • im 24 and i love old music i really really want all the old music to make a comeback and just wipe all of this new stuff out of here.

  • Great voice, and THE BEST VERSION, by far. All the others fall way short.

  • This brings back many memories when I could not read but picked the records out by the label. THIS was one of my favorite songs.

  • @ChiefSailor1948 I can relate to that! 1948 was a good year!

  • Many, many thanks for your nostalgic uploads John. Wonderful stuff and very good of you to take the trouble and time

  • Used to dance or roller skate to this one. We weren't the greatest

generation, but we were the coolest.

Ok, maybe not that either, but we were the first to dance to rock and

roll. I still remember the first time I heard the name of Elvis Presley.

Thought it was the strangest name I've ever heard.

    Tnx 4 the nostalgic post.

  • Nobody's got the blues. Yay! Billboard's 16th #1 hit of the rock era. God bless! RIP, Guy.

  • What a great song!

    Thanks for uploading!

  • This video is posted on Facebook page called "Golden Tunes - Sound of Oldies", so if you have fb account and some time, check it, i guess you will like it :) Page is for everyone who like like warm cozy sound of evergreen music.

  • This sounds so much like Butterfly by Andy Williams..the two are interchangeable :)

  • Oldie music is so much better then the music these days!

Before I go to school I make sure to listen to alot of guy mitchell and ink spots and what have you becuase if its stuck in my head the better for everyone!!

This is the best music that has ever been made!

  • Allegany State Park, the Red House 1956

  • Great version by Guy Mitchell along with Marty Robbins. Guy Mitchell doesn't get much airplay anymore but he should. Need more 50's singers like Guy.

  • Im into old school rock music, Black Sabbath, Saxon, AC/DC, etc etc but my dad used to play this all the time when i was a kid and i love it ( RIP DAD )

  • This may be one of the first memories of my life on this earth (just shows how powerful music is) - born in 1952 in NE PA and this came out in '56 - can't go back much further than 4 years old! My brother dated a girl a few blocks away from our house and I used to visit her with him. Either she had the record or we heard it on the radio at her house, but I strongly associate this with being in her house. Music was in my soul from the beginning - I became a professional musician. Thnx 4 posting!

  • great later recording of a 50s classic more more

  • Some of my fondest memories is when my father would turn on this record and sing. Me and my sisters just loved it.

  • This was one of the first records I bought (aged 9) and I still occasionally play it on the old wind up gramophone. It's great to hear it here too. This version and the one posted by AppleOranges12 are the best for me and although I liked Tommy Steele I thought his version was just second best and didn't deserve to be a hit.

  • Very many thanks!

  • great job with this classic

  • A memorable song.. thanks for posting.

  • I remember riding around Omaha when this was on the car radio and Dad was singing along. Great memories.

  • its perfect greetz anjaa from nederland

  • @John1948Five At least you grew up with the good music.

  • @John1948Five Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this a 1# hit in both the UK and the US back in '56?

  • @Aasmund01 Actually it was released so late in 1956 bthat it didn't hit #1 until 1957. It lost and regained the top spot twice more over the next few weeks. As far as the UK charts all I know is it topped the UK singles chart at the start of January 1957.

  • Thanks for the bio on Guy Mitchell ... I never knew a thing about him except that I liked his music as a kid ... and still do !

  • One of my favorite oldies... and I always loved the whistling.

  • Good lawd! This was the first song I sang in public. The 1st grade teacher heard me singing this at recess, then took me into all the different grades and classrooms to sing it a capella in each room. (yea, scary) Thus began a lifetime of singing. It's so old, I almost thought it was a figment of imagination, but here it is!! People wonder about life before computers? What music freak can imagine life without YouTube (or John) to hear all of these? Thanks so much for posting! Priceless!

  • It is a nice song. You should record it an upload it for us.

  • Ray Conniff and singers did about everything and did it so well,,RWB

  • The whistler in the background is Ray Conniff ! ! ! Conniff was the arranger and conductor on this recording, whose upbeat style stole the spotlight from Marty Robbins earlier version. Listen to them both and you'll understand why. Conniff's arragements were such hits for so many 50s artists that Columbia let Conniff release his own album the same year this song topped the charts. Conniff went on to release 100 more albums during his 46 year career!

  • I haven't really heard anything by Guy Mitchell that I could say was bad, thanks for posting

  • I used to listen all the time to this guy back in 1997 when i was a 4 year old, my aunt bought me the best of Guy Mitchell for my birthday, haha, sweet memmories.

  • Best of the Best
