  • FLUX!!!

  • Did this same group of musicians play the tune "Rawhide"? I thought that I saw it on youtube, but I have not been able to find it. Any ideas anyone. Thanks. Did everybody notice how clean all the musicians played or picked their part? That is the mark of greatness and a lot of practice.

  • @drafthorselover that's a bluegrass musician for ya :-)

  • This has GOT to be the defining standard for this great tune!!

  • this rocks!

  • Could anyone recommend a quality brand of fiddle for a beginner to start with? Also, is Jerry Douglas playing an original Dobro? Thanks.

  • @drafthorselover

No idea about fiddles, but I can tell you than Jerry Douglas is actually playing a Scheerhorn. Standard body size.

what's the date of this video anyone?

  • He was playing an R body Scheerhorn at that time made out of mahogany/spruce.

  • Oona lahat kayo pro -.-

  • Sure miss Tom playing the banjo!

  • Wow! Just Wow!

  • wow!

  • Wow, not a moment in there that didn't sound amazing.

  • @missouriboy66

This is not "country" music, it's Bluegrass.

  • im starting to play the guitar. i was thinking to learn to play the banjo later. offcourse i will never going to be great as tom is. i never heard country music but its nice and happy after all. by the way im from argentina.

  • @kjsh987

This is not "country" music, it's "bluegrass".

  • Nice!

  • David Grier is one of the best musicians of our day (in my opinion). One of those rare sorts who never seems to play a bad note.

  • GREAT STUFF!!!

  • YES!

  • sam bush! shit.

  • DAVID GRIER is absolutely amazing!

  • Sorry Grier but where the hell is Tony Rice.

  • YEE HAW! fabulous!!

  • Killer stuff, and Douglas is Off the Charts!

  • Holy shit a bass solo! That was awesome!!!

  • @ems1988 yes i agree

  • @ems1988 Roy Huskey Jr. sadly no longer with us.

  • Watch David Grier's lick at 2:00-2:03.

Only David could play this kind of lick.Hat's off to him.

    UNBELIEVABLE!

  • Wow! That was a jaw dropper!

  • Those are some great instrumentalists, love the music also :)

  • Tom shreds hard..... real hard.

  • Stuart Duncan is the greatest fiddler

  • Yay!

  • wow i remember when this aired!! great stuff!! 5 stars

  • Man that is some mean picking right there.

  • This was in 92....Stuart was incredible and David's guitar solo on Rawhide is how it ought to be done..Not just a bunch of notes running together at the speed of light...

  • What year was this?

  • I must have watched David Grier's solo at least 50 times....

I've never seen such a precise picking.

    He's a flatpicking MASTER

  • some fine pickin!

  • luv the bass!!

  • Totally acoustic and sounding great.

  • i dont know how david grier has any controll of the pick like that. but i guess what works works

  • LOL, I hope your not insinuating you know better than David Grier! LOL.

  • ha ha. no im just saying that he holds the pick kinda wierd. but like i said, what works works

  • When Stuart Duncan was 12 and on his way to the Hugo, Oklahoma festival, he stayed with my cousin and I got to see him play! I met him again in 1999 and we talked about that! Fantastic fiddle player. Probably the best right now.

  • Love Tom Adams playing - when I was teaching banjo I used to advise them to listen to him, so clean, straight ahead, and powerful. With taste.

  • Amazing Fiddle.

  • Yes it is!

  • This is an awesome video!

    Thanks so much for posting.

    Banjoistically yours,

    Jon Eric

  • These guys are good. I like this music. This is a lot like The Out Of Town Boys videos. Both bands have the same sound. Much more exciting than the rock I've been listening to for the last 20 years..

  • legendary!

  • Hey, did I ever tell ya Stu Bob is the Man!

  • Totally incredible!!!

  • well there!

  • really amazing

  • I hear that Tom Adams is pursuing a two finger style picking of banjo. He is such a trooper. I also did not know that he also played guitar. What an artist? Good luck to him.

  • I was totally unaware of Tom Adams' health problem. I was wondering why there was a youtube video about him and his two-finger style. Now that question is answered. Sounds like he is making lemonade out of lemons which shows his immense courage and not willing to give up.

  • I am impressed with Tom Adams. He picks fast, hard, and clean. He is an incredible talent. This is incredible and awesome bluegrass music. What a joy! What about the IBMA winners for 2007 and 2008?

  • Tom Adams is my favorite banjo player. It's really sad that he developed a neurological condition that affected the use of his right hand. He is working to perfect a two-finger picking style, and he sounds really good - but his right hand drive was the best in the business before he lost the use of one of his fingers.

I think the last CD he made before he got sick was "Live at the Ragged Edge" with Michael Cleveland. It is a fantastic "farewell" tribute to the best "banjologist" alive!

  • When Tom Adams played his own style (his Scruggs style was intentionally basic) he was possibly the best banjo player. If nothing else, hes one of the most unique I've ever heard. Its so tragic he lost that ability. In any case, hes an awesome guitar player!

  • What really makes it go is having Roy Husky Jr. on the bass.Listen to the jazz runs behind the fiddle break.

  • Tom Adams is a beast, he drives the banjo down your throat!!! good stuff

  • Mighty fine pickin boys.

  • It is such a treat to see so many top notch musicians playing together! Just awesome!

  • OOOHHHH MY GOD!!! AMAZING!!!

  • David Grier, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, Tom Adams, Stuart Duncan together, AWSOME!

  • David Grier is a GUITAR GOD!!

Check out his solo, man this guy knows how to mess with time, very nice syncopated kind of soloing.

    What more i can say?

    I *love*his picking!!

    Greekflatpicker

  • AWESOME! Killer band on this one. Thanks for posting!!!

  • Pure genius, what a great band of musicians!!

  • Tom Adams making that Gold Star sound great.

  • Hey, Gold Stars always sound great...

  • Killer banjo - now we'll see how Tom Adams does on guitar, since focal hand dystonia has kept him from continuing with three-finger style picking - at least at the performance level; he's still writing, MP3ing, and teaching. All these guys are amazing - thanks for posting this!

  • There all great but what a great strong bassist, like a rock, Roy Husky Jr. Rest in peace.

  • STUART DUNCAN.......YOU THE MAN BABY !!!!!!! there is no one better than you. Thats how fiddle should be played !!!

  • I guess the poster forgot who Roy Husky Jr was.

  • I love how Sam just hauls that solo out of Hoss the mando.

  • Just about the best pickin' I've heard from Grier yet...nice!

  • Stronger than garlic on a string!!!

  • That's the "A Team" for sure! Wow GO J. D.!!!

  • That's the ''right stuff'' for sure. Stronger than a butcher's dog!!!

  • Damn! Everybody was smokin' on that one. Thanks for posting it.

  • aweet!
