Did this same group of musicians play the tune "Rawhide"? I thought that I saw it on youtube, but I have not been able to find it. Any ideas anyone. Thanks. Did everybody notice how clean all the musicians played or picked their part? That is the mark of greatness and a lot of practice.
im starting to play the guitar. i was thinking to learn to play the banjo later. offcourse i will never going to be great as tom is. i never heard country music but its nice and happy after all. by the way im from argentina.
This was in 92....Stuart was incredible and David's guitar solo on Rawhide is how it ought to be done..Not just a bunch of notes running together at the speed of light...
When Stuart Duncan was 12 and on his way to the Hugo, Oklahoma festival, he stayed with my cousin and I got to see him play! I met him again in 1999 and we talked about that! Fantastic fiddle player. Probably the best right now.
These guys are good. I like this music. This is a lot like The Out Of Town Boys videos. Both bands have the same sound. Much more exciting than the rock I've been listening to for the last 20 years..
I hear that Tom Adams is pursuing a two finger style picking of banjo. He is such a trooper. I also did not know that he also played guitar. What an artist? Good luck to him.
I was totally unaware of Tom Adams' health problem. I was wondering why there was a youtube video about him and his two-finger style. Now that question is answered. Sounds like he is making lemonade out of lemons which shows his immense courage and not willing to give up.
I am impressed with Tom Adams. He picks fast, hard, and clean. He is an incredible talent. This is incredible and awesome bluegrass music. What a joy! What about the IBMA winners for 2007 and 2008?
Tom Adams is my favorite banjo player. It's really sad that he developed a neurological condition that affected the use of his right hand. He is working to perfect a two-finger picking style, and he sounds really good - but his right hand drive was the best in the business before he lost the use of one of his fingers.
I think the last CD he made before he got sick was "Live at the Ragged Edge" with Michael Cleveland. It is a fantastic "farewell" tribute to the best "banjologist" alive!
When Tom Adams played his own style (his Scruggs style was intentionally basic) he was possibly the best banjo player. If nothing else, hes one of the most unique I've ever heard. Its so tragic he lost that ability. In any case, hes an awesome guitar player!
Killer banjo - now we'll see how Tom Adams does on guitar, since focal hand dystonia has kept him from continuing with three-finger style picking - at least at the performance level; he's still writing, MP3ing, and teaching. All these guys are amazing - thanks for posting this!
Outstanding !!

Could anyone recommend a quality brand of fiddle for a beginner to start with? Also, is Jerry Douglas playing an original Dobro? Thanks.

No idea about fiddles, but I can tell you than Jerry Douglas is actually playing a Scheerhorn. Standard body size.
