Nice, symbolic gesture. The train whistle was so well timed that it really seemed to create a special moment. The sound of the train coming and going in the distance, while you make peace with the past by giving back to mother earth what she so heartily gave to humanity. Aaaaamen.
That is way cool!! And also how cool to have you and your bride's rings made from original silver from the era. Question: What that a Carson City Morgan dollar? :-)
Interesting. Before the Comstock Load Virginia City was just a stop over for the stage coaches passing through. At one point it's population reached as much as 30 thousand. Ol' Virginny City ain't what it used to be. Though symbolic it's nice to see somebody give something back to the town that was good to a lot of people 130 or 140 years ago.
Thanks.... since you showed some interest I let you in on the whole story. Quickly. My Great Great Grandfather moved to V.C. in 1863 and spent the next thirty years there. The silver I buried came out of the Comstock, minted into a Morgan dollar in 1882, circulated around the country, and then last year, melted down and made into a set of wedding rings for my wife and I. The piece left over from the mold was what I returned and buried.
So I wonder if anyones seen this and gone up there with their metal detector?
