3:17 and 5:17, 5:57 make you realize just how bad some of these tones are. Cheesy, cheesy, cheesy. Lots of potential in the M13 concept, but Line 6 is the Peavey of effects pedals. They seem to go just so far and then cut all the corners that might make it good. Always disappointing. Maybe the next generation will work out.
i really like this unit.. but with the 3 layers of switches it seems like weve gone from tap dancing to single foot balancing >_< which isnt any better! haha
can you run this into the front of the amp and in the fx loop? So I can run my comp, OD, etc. into the front of my amp and the chorus, delay, flange, etc. can be ran post amp.
is there another playing mode beside the scene mode, something like a patch mode ie: by stomping one button you turn on or off several fxs? (phaser+overdrive+reverb) with one button, thanks
This is great, just messed around with it in Sam Ash for close to 3 hours studying every possible sound effect and messing with the settings. if your going to get this, it doesn't model amps or anything, just stombox effects. I loved the phaser, flanger, and the synth effects were simply badass. the voice box i couldn't get a quite good sound, chorus wasn't top notch but really good. distortion bottom line doesn't sound that good. same with all digitally reproduced disortion. same for overdrive.
@diegojosegonzalez....i dont have a hands on experience withthe hd500 but i do havethe M13. I run it through a fender blues deluxe and couldnt be happier. I get the best of both worlds....great distorted tones AND, what ive always had trouble getting, a GREAT clean sound. For me, this is all i need. Going to get expression pedal soon and play with that. Check it out and compare to the hd500. Good luck
can you use the M13 with a POD HD model? and if so how can you hook the too up together (keep in mind all i have is an amp and guitar and HD400) i wanna use the M13 for extra effects..how do i hook it up or can i??
I wish they focused the camera more on the fx than his guitar while he was playing...wasn't he demoing the pedal?Still he's good, of course, he wouldn't be the editor if he wasn't right?
I have used quite alot of line 6 amps in my short life and my opinion toward the company has really drifted to the negative side because i find its sounds to be very processed. But i have only heard good things about this product and i am looking into it. So, to the actual question, is it possible to get sounds out of the m13 that sound like marshall's (dirty) or fender's (clean and dirty)? any info would be greatly appreciated.
@slash646 This isn't a modeler in the typical line6 sense. I'm with you. I had a pod, etc, and it just never really cut up. But, that was mostly due to the amp/cab processing. Since this has none, it's simply effects which have always been good.
If you're looking to get a fender sound, buy a fender. because this will only give you 'your amp here'' + chorus/etc.
And for people watching the video that know only what this video had to say about the M13, there is also a stereo effects loop you can route your existing pedals into. It has allowed me to put some nice OD pedals after volume/wah/comp/pitch/etc. but before my mod/verb/delay/etc, which was a make or break for me. I must say that if nothing else, this is a tremendous experimentation and/or practice tool. Though the M13 has served me very well on many occasions in and out of practice. But I agree
Dude. Best fast run-through of the M13 I've seen. Serious. You have some of the best gear reviews on YouTube. But.... get some new pants or wear purple underwear or some color that will tell the viewer for certain that he or she is not looking at your nut-sack through that hole in your jeans.
I have been a Digitech RP500 guy until I tried this out at my local shop. The RP500 is a good piece of gear. The M13 is a FABULOUS peice off gear! I traded it in on the spot. I am now happy as a pig in _________ (fill in blank)
I'm going to do some more searching on this unit. I'm assuming it will run in front of and in the loop as well as control amp channel switching like the TC G System does?
You don't need to hold down the scene select button to change scenes, you just tap it then select one of the 12 scenes, much quicker and faster than shown in the video!
This is probably a pretty stupid question, but is this an amp or something you connect your amp to, and in your own opinion is this something a metal guitarist would benefit greatly from?
@maunder69 it is a pedalboard that you connect to your amp, and I would say that it is suitable for a metal guitarist. I do not have it though, but i play metal and have a lot of Line 6 stuff, and since they have put all their stompboxes into to this pedalboard, i would be disappointed if the "metal" and "insane" modes weren't there. :D
@maunder69 most newer Line 6 amps are basically preset for metalish type of playing. normally dont need a distortion pedal with it unless you just want an even heavier sound.
I mostly-use vintage-style OD/distortion and effects pedals in my setup, and I don't use too-many at once. I like a simple setup for any given situation. Usually just a couple dirt pedals, plus a univibe-replica and maybe one other analog modulation effect, and that's it. Amp-reverb. I rarely-use delay. So honestly, the M13 would just have me distracted and eventually-yearning for my old setup....
I'm a blues-player at heart, and I've always preferred rich, dynamic, punchy OD/distortion pedals, especially transistor-driven ones, and I just can't get those kinds of tones out of a digital distortion unit. Now, reverbs and delays can actually be reproduced quite-well on a lot of digital units I've heard, and I'll sometimes use them out of convenience, but I'd still rather have say, A FT Tube Tape Echo or an outboard Fender reverb unit. But for modulation effects, I much-prefer analog.
Stick with analog pedals for distortion/OD, and run them into a proper tube amp. The digital distortion/OD/amp-modelers sound too-generic and lifeless, plus they lack the dynamics and richness of the analog stuff. If you're gonna play out, buy a tube amp and then find a couple hand-wired dirt pedals so you can get the low/high-gain OD/dist. sounds you want, and THEN start adding stuff like chorus, delay, univibe-type stuff, etc., but FIND your tone first. Avoid the carbon-copy modelers.
@gangtwanger thanks man...i have been using analog effects. and i have a not so huge pedalboard.about ten analog pedals and i wanted to have more and i dont want to bring all those analog pedals on small venues gig.so thats why i asked for a good multi effects pedal.i have tried a lot of them and i have to agree, all the dirt pedals that comes with the multi effetcs are not so good.i was wondering if i can just get two or three analog pedals and put it into the loop on the M13 .
Line 6 does delays well-enough, I guess, but I'm not a fan of ANY of the amp/distortion-modelers I've heard. The digital stuff doesn't have that richness and dynamics I get with my dirt pedals, and I need that stuff. I'd honestly rather stick with a couple handwired dirt boxes into my meager Fender Hot Rod Dlx, and then buy things like delay/chorus/etc pedals individually as I can afford them. Right now I use a Throbak Fuzz Haze & Overdrive Boost, AM NKT Sunface, and FT OCD, and my tone kills.
I want to know how to save an amp setting from my amp to the m13. Like when I'm playing fade to black or master and I want to switch from distortion to clean, is there I way I can program both onto it and I can switch by just stomping on another channel?
@aceman42 get the M9 and acouple good distortion pedals. I've never liked the Line 6 overdrive stuff, but the rest of the effects are spot on! For distortion and overdrive pedals, i'd highly recommend Visual Sound
@aceman42 Don't buy any of em! By yourself a good overdrive and a tube amp. and by the question, i think you might be playing on an ibanez or a schecter? so maybe start with a good guitar first.
i have one. i like it. it sounds good. it has effects. i use a fender twin reverb. i use an american standard strat. it sounds good. yes. it does. it sounds good. great pedal. if u tweak it it doesnt matter what amp u use. u can make it sound good. line 6 is good. good pedal. sounds good. i have one. its pretty good.
jeeeeezzzzzz...... listen sperm breath, its was a comment of humour as we guitarists do... but you got all hateful and stupid... what are you a drummer? A gay drummer? :) anyway Peace brother my drummer is gay :) its your mother :) "just kidding" dont get hateful, now back to the abyss from whence you came.
Stop the hate fool. I was making a humorous comment. Did I touch a nerve when I said gay? I dont care what you stuff in your colon. Okey feel better now. I want to talk pedals not penises. be gone loser..
Good Job with the comeback only thing you need to learn is that it needs to make sense, you're talking about a guitarist's dick, I'm not the gay one here.
How would this work if u used time-based FX in the FX loop, but this thing has overdrives and distortions as well, so it would be pointless to have all this shit when u can only use a few certain things together correctly that would sound alright
The M13 is a great unit, but this guy knows how to make anything sound terrible. If you're using this video to decide if you should buy one, I suggest you take it with a grain of salt and go find some others. Nearly all the M13 videos on YouTube sound better than this one. Guitar World really needs to step it up.
This is a fantastic piece of gear. Two years in so far and it has been reliable and sounds great. Certainly there are analog pedals that have a character that it can't reproduce, but when it comes to writing, rehearsing and playing live, it's a very smart box. I used to run 13 pedals live, and trust me, having one of them (or their cables) fail in front of 2000 people is no fun. Try it out! You may feel like we do that it was designed a bit more intelligently than some other all in one units.

I just got this thing today and even though it's expensive, it's worth every cent! Since I am a beginning guitar player this gives me lots of room to find my "sound."
It does not have a grumble chop switch witch I think is the only fall down but I've had it for 11 years and I've been thinking about selling it .. It will possibly be for sale on ???
@posiedonpowertrio they're too different to be able to say, what's better. Besides that, in the "gear world" there's never a "better" or "worse". Every piece of gear has it's advantages and disadvantages.
The M13 is for you, if you 1. use an amp and 2. you want the billion integrated pedals all in one box.
The GT-10 is for you, if you want to change sounds completely with one hit of a button. Also you can record directly with it without an amp.
I think Paul is going right through the front of the amp. There is a 4 cable method you can hook up so your od's are in front of pre amp and mod's and delays, verbs are in the efx loop
@thumbvideos123 no you need a power amp to power the speaker. what you could do is get a head and plug directly into the return of the effects loop. thats what i do. the reason i do that is because i hated the sound of the preamp so i just bypassed it. some amps wont let you do this though
there can only be one reason that someone's sexuality gets under their skin so much; it hits too close to home. who really gives a flying fuck what someone does with their own life?
ok i have 2 questions. 1. can i change each button? i mean the guy right there set the first button wah. can i change wah's button and make it overdrive or something? 2. can i use the m13 pedal WITH other pedals? i mean my gear was so far mxr pedals. is it can i use this pedal with the mxr pedals? thanks
@evanscottmusic. What's up with Youtube showing clips of this fucking ass sucking FAGGOT playing like a fucking noob. Bannend or not. At least I AM NOT GAY.
@bennyvx08 actually benny, i am sort of thinking you might have a crush on paul as you seem to come here sometimes consecutively (means days in a row) to leave your wisdom.
@guitarrhythymfool. Hey Motherfucker. At least IM NOT GAY!! I DO NOT stick
my fucking cock in some other dudes rear!! like Paul does..The Faggot is making me SICK and is an embarrisment to Guitar World. Used to be such an respected magazine.
GET THE FUCK OFF YOUTUBE PAUL. There are people watching who dont want to get Fucking sick...Why O why does a respected guitar magazine like guitar world let this ass sucking queer do the fucking demo's for them??? In the middle east homosexuality means a death sentence. Oh how those countrys evolved in such a GOOD way...
@ArchieIsted. AT least Im NOT Gay. I DO NOT suck some other dudes cock like Paul Does. Its not very Christian to be Gay U know...We don't tollerate them.
@bennyvx08 whats wrong with being gay? im not but i have a friend who is and what makes him less of a peson than you? Just cos you want to shove your pathetic religion down our throats. Get this im an atheist and my religion makes you an idiot so shutup and die cos im fairly sure the whole point of your religion is to make all people equal because we are all gods children you prick
question: Is the M13 true stereo??... I mean, can I run it through the FX loop of two separate amps and still have the sound of each amp separately???
I think it's a good video. I just bought this pedal, I had viewed this demo and others prior to buying. To answer some of the questions, you can change effects settings like tone and effect level on the fly. That's what those buttons do on the top. If you have the unit in autosave mode its just like having actual pedals, it remembers the last settings you tweaked.
What's up with the camera zooming in on the guitar??? Frankly, I don't give a shit about his guitar playing. I want to see how the pedal works! Focus in on that!
@SlammastaJ you want to "SEE" how the pedal works,,,,,errr well you press the switches and it models stomp box pedals.....what's there to see, I'd rather make sure I can "HEAR" what it sounds like. If you wanna bitch about the review then move on and find one of the other gazillion M13 reviews you whiny ass baby.
WHO EDITED THIS?!?!?! IS THIS A REVIEW FOR AN M13 OR AN EPIPHONE LES PAUL?! GET THE DAMN CAMERA OFF OF THE STUPID GUITAR AND ONTO THE ACTUAL UNIT YOU ARE REVIEWING!!! ANOTHER REASON TO DISLIKE GUITAR WORLD......
@SlammastaJ - I actually understand why they show his guitar-playing. Back when Pro Guitar Shop started churning out demo-videos, they used to just show a close-up shot of the pedal and the guy's finger pointing out the different features...... But everybody had a problem with the 'pointing' and wanted to see the guy playing the guitar and all that (which I tend to agree on), so they changed it. And others in the business (like GW) have followed suit, using the PGS formula in their demo-videos.
One thing they always forget to tell us is what amp they're using in the demonstration, and it is very important, cause yes, it sound incredible here, but the amp might also be the reason why the sound goes from "good" to "the next level". I always wonder, "is this sound so organic and natural bcuz of the pedal? or bcuz he's playing in a $3k all tube amp"
@eltiogamboin I don't think they're using an amp. I know he's saying amp, but I don't think they would use an amp on a demo for this thing. I'm pretty sure he's running straight into a mixer.
@kizmetx Damn, so my Rage 158 15 watt isn't gonna sound too hot? haha. Oh well I'm still getting an M13 if it kills me! Certainly can't sound any worse.... Anyway - being as I live in a small flat, not sure the neighbors would like me much if I had an AC30.....!
@eltiogamboin erm, the whole point of a pure tube amp, is to get the purest sound, the reason it sounds pleasing to you in this demo, is because it sounds how it should sound... There's no point buying any pedals unless you've got a decent sounding valve amp anyway! You don't have to spend anything like a grand to get hold of a perfectly good valve amp
yup. Too bad processors cant learn to think faster ;) Anyway from what I know using more than five stompboxes in an effects chain dosent affect the sound much because the signal changes too much. Any thoughts?
3:17 and 5:17, 5:57 make you realize just how bad some of these tones are. Cheesy, cheesy, cheesy. Lots of potential in the M13 concept, but Line 6 is the Peavey of effects pedals. They seem to go just so far and then cut all the corners that might make it good. Always disappointing. Maybe the next generation will work out.

@slash646 if you looking for a good straight clean or overdrve tone, don't reply on a unit like this
If you'd like to add delay, chorus, distortion ect. to that tone, get this unit.
Don't rely on it for all of your tone.

@aceman42 haha i have the exact same question. but what my friend said was that
Line 6 M13: has a few great pedals. but their higher gains aint that good
Digitech: trashy (no idea wat the hell that means)
POD: doesnt work well with an amp. works better when plugged in to an PA system
mymama12314 1 year ago
@mymama12314 trashy i think would mean that the sound is too digital .
aceman42 1 year ago
@aceman42 get the M9 and acouple good distortion pedals. I've never liked the Line 6 overdrive stuff, but the rest of the effects are spot on! For distortion and overdrive pedals, i'd highly recommend Visual Sound
NHBluesMan 1 year ago
@aceman42 Don't buy any of em! By yourself a good overdrive and a tube amp. and by the question, i think you might be playing on an ibanez or a schecter? so maybe start with a good guitar first.

Is this or the GT-10 Better?
posiedonpowertrio 1 year ago
@posiedonpowertrio they're too different to be able to say, what's better. Besides that, in the "gear world" there's never a "better" or "worse". Every piece of gear has it's advantages and disadvantages.
The M13 is for you, if you 1. use an amp and 2. you want the billion integrated pedals all in one box.
The GT-10 is for you, if you want to change sounds completely with one hit of a button. Also you can record directly with it without an amp.
XChanges2 1 year ago
@posiedonpowertrio GT-10 is better....you jus have to go through a learning curve.

is their any kind of adapter that could plug the m13 or anything with the same output jack straight into a cabinet, without needing a head?
thumbvideos123 1 year ago
@thumbvideos123 no you need a power amp to power the speaker. what you could do is get a head and plug directly into the return of the effects loop. thats what i do. the reason i do that is because i hated the sound of the preamp so i just bypassed it. some amps wont let you do this though

wowamazing123 1 year ago
I think it's a good video. I just bought this pedal, I had viewed this demo and others prior to buying. To answer some of the questions, you can change effects settings like tone and effect level on the fly. That's what those buttons do on the top. If you have the unit in autosave mode its just like having actual pedals, it remembers the last settings you tweaked.
litesnsirens 1 year ago
Paul does a good job at demoing stuff like this.
I think this video better illustrates the function of the m13 better than any other video out there.
And for the two comments below; Go back to metal shredding in your bedroom.

SlammastaJ 2 years ago 75
@SlammastaJ you want to "SEE" how the pedal works,,,,,errr well you press the switches and it models stomp box pedals.....what's there to see, I'd rather make sure I can "HEAR" what it sounds like. If you wanna bitch about the review then move on and find one of the other gazillion M13 reviews you whiny ass baby.
Raycing 1 year ago
@SlammastaJ
WHO EDITED THIS?!?!?! IS THIS A REVIEW FOR AN M13 OR AN EPIPHONE LES PAUL?! GET THE DAMN CAMERA OFF OF THE STUPID GUITAR AND ONTO THE ACTUAL UNIT YOU ARE REVIEWING!!! ANOTHER REASON TO DISLIKE GUITAR WORLD......
berry2mint 1 year ago
@SlammastaJ - I actually understand why they show his guitar-playing. Back when Pro Guitar Shop started churning out demo-videos, they used to just show a close-up shot of the pedal and the guy's finger pointing out the different features...... But everybody had a problem with the 'pointing' and wanted to see the guy playing the guitar and all that (which I tend to agree on), so they changed it. And others in the business (like GW) have followed suit, using the PGS formula in their demo-videos.
gangtwanger 1 year ago
One thing they always forget to tell us is what amp they're using in the demonstration, and it is very important, cause yes, it sound incredible here, but the amp might also be the reason why the sound goes from "good" to "the next level". I always wonder, "is this sound so organic and natural bcuz of the pedal? or bcuz he's playing in a $3k all tube amp"
eltiogamboin 2 years ago 20
@eltiogamboin I don't think they're using an amp. I know he's saying amp, but I don't think they would use an amp on a demo for this thing. I'm pretty sure he's running straight into a mixer.

To my ears, sounds like a Plexi. But you are right, the pedalboard would not sound like this on a $100 peavey.
kizmetx 1 year ago
@kizmetx Damn, so my Rage 158 15 watt isn't gonna sound too hot? haha. Oh well I'm still getting an M13 if it kills me! Certainly can't sound any worse.... Anyway - being as I live in a small flat, not sure the neighbors would like me much if I had an AC30.....!
christhesnaildriver 1 year ago
@eltiogamboin erm, the whole point of a pure tube amp, is to get the purest sound, the reason it sounds pleasing to you in this demo, is because it sounds how it should sound... There's no point buying any pedals unless you've got a decent sounding valve amp anyway! You don't have to spend anything like a grand to get hold of a perfectly good valve amp
louisalive 1 year ago
Looks nice, but can you alter level, tone, effect level on the fly? What do the knobs do at the top?
One thing that I don't like about some Line 6 products is the inability to alter on the fly quickly during live shows.
Looks like a great product so far.

You would need more processor power and it would cost more.
PutItAway101 2 years ago
yup. Too bad processors cant learn to think faster ;) Anyway from what I know using more than five stompboxes in an effects chain dosent affect the sound much because the signal changes too much. Any thoughts?
