I'm non-religious (against dogma of organised religion, but not against faith, though I myself don't believe in a God), and I still find this song and its message beautiful and powerful. Brooke Fraser is one of the best singers of our time, surely.
@Starprizm Many are simply singers, but besides singer she is an artist, it's a fact! I believe that most of her songs are going to be played even in a next future, because art is timeless.
...But God will be right there with you. "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." Psalm 23:4. Sin is death, yet when we walk through a valley of death/sin, God is still there, all the more guiding us. Salvation cannot be lost.
...Even Paul felt that he strayed from God. It happens to the best of us. "Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Duet. 31:6...So God delivers me, and he never leaves me or forsakes me. Its not a good thing to take back a gift. Salvation is the ultimate gift, and my God is a giving God, willing to extend his love to anybody, not judge based on a temporary state. Its so easy to fall...
"So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!" Romans 7:21-25...
@lozzymagoo In the song, I don't think she's referencing the Scriptures in the song as well. Please don't think I'm bombarding you! >.< I just think you're assuming something that the song isn't pointing out.
We shouldn't see Scripture with negativity! The WORD helps us to know God more! May we yearn for him more!!! Of course, we need to be more like Jesus, but I don't understand why you dislike Scripture @lozzymagoo5 :(
Hopefully, this verse doesn't make you resentful, but convicts your heart to seek Him.
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I forgot where I was, this song was so beautiful the first time I heard it.....just really made me feel something, an antidote to numbness I would prescribe.
there are people who believe in god and people who don't just like there are white people and black people no matter what you choose to believe or what you say it is not wrong so do not judge or say people are wrong because they are not wrong just because you think they are
I MAKE A COMMENT AS A CHRISTIAN, ABOUT HOW BEAUTIFUL THIS SONG IS AND SOMEONE DECIDES TO BOMBARD ME WITH SCRIPTURES.... get off your high self righteous horse and be more humble and Christ like!!
@lozzymagoo I agree with you. It happens to me as well, it happens everywhere. So sad that we become indoctrinated and Christ-like. God created beauty, God is beauty. We should have His eyes to be able to look around and say "It is good!" without any Scriptures hissing in the back of our minds.
Jesus may not choose to leave us, but we can choose to leave Him. If we are living in disobedience to His commandments, then we are in danger of Hell. We must be sure to love Him with ALL of our mind, heart, soul and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. We must take every thought captive to the obedience of Jesus!
Jesus said, "If you love me, you will keep My commandments." If you aren't keeping His commandments, you don't love Him...and He didn't leave you, you left Him.
@downtoawhisper I believe that people can get lost in life. People can stop following God and living their own life and making their own choices without God...but I also believe that Jesus knows what is in every individuals heart and that he will call his people back if they turn away from him.
Once a person has accepted Jesus Christ as their saviour, salvation cannot be lost. That would mean eternal life would be taken away from us according to what we do in life. That is not the Jesus I know.
"Once a person has accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, salvation cannot be lost."
Actually people can backslide, which is very dangerous. Here is what the Scriptures say in regards to this issue
Matthew 7:19 "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."
Revelations 2:5 "Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent."
....2 Peter 2:20 - 21 "For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them."
This means that if someone gets saved and then backslides into their prior....
....life of sin...it would be better for them on their day of judgment for them to never have known the truth of Jesus in the first place. They will have a worse judgment in this case.
My friend, it is very possible to lose our salvation. The Scriptures are very clear. 1 Peter 4:18 says, "And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?" The righteous are SCARCELY saved according to Scripture. This is why we must be so very careful to....
...love the Lord our God with ALL of our mind, heart, soul and strength and love our neighbor as ourselves. We must be sure to take up our cross daily and follow Christ wherever He may lead us. We must be sure to not only refrain from sin ourselves, but teach others the way of the Lord...being fishers of men.
Don't get me wrong...I wish that no one could lose their salvation, but the Scriptures are clear, and I don't argue with them. Please read more and find out for yourself.
@downtoawhisper Saying that our performance is what saves us is the same as saying both God's grace and Jesus' death are insufficient. The entire book you are quoting from is about the PERFECT work of Jesus and how we have ALL fallen short. By God's grace alone, @lozzymagoo was saved before the foundations of the earth and your words are the exact reason so many people lose faith and leave the church.
My lovely sister in Christ sang this at a school concert and i was almost in tears. God definately speaks through this beautiful woman.

@lozzymagoo ...agreed...period. Instead of quoting scripture to others, why not show by example.
Constantly repeating your own humilities to others is not what a brother in Christ is or does.

@downtoawhisper Thanks for that, but I dont know why your assuming "i have left God"...
Life can still be hard as we walk with God. He never said it would be easy, infact its harder being a Christian...that is what Im saying.
And once a person belongs to Jesus, there is nothing that can change that, so there would be no fear of hell.
lozzymagoo 10 months ago
@lozzymagoo
I'm not saying that you specifically have left Jesus, that was just more of a general statement.
"And once a person belongs to Jesus, there is nothing that can change that, so there would be no fear of hell. "
So you believe that we can't lose our salvation?
