  • Grow up!

  • @bobodriscoll Grow up? That's a pretty childish attitude. Running red lights with a very heavy armoured van is not only illegal, but really really dangerous. That van would open up your car like a tin can. Do you not care about your family and friends that you think it's fine to drive like this?

  • well if you dont want to get hijacked then dont stop at redlights, as it gives hijackers time to jump in

  • @remen3 Get 'kin real. By far the biggest danger is some idiot driver like this one flattening and killing other people through his careless disregard for traffic law and safety.

  • @dalboy81 In fairness to you guys, I've seen quite a lot of G4S drivers, and they're usually excellent. Pity this one guy let down the company image.

  • was that in england if so where ??

  • More than likely the driver plus crew are being forced to do more calls than is possible by any normal human. Not many of you realise the presure these men are under, always under the threat of being robbed every time they are of their van.Think about it would you drive fast if you had millions of pounds in your car???????????????

  • Driving fast and dangerously doesn't stop anyone robbing those vans. If you aren't prepared to take the risks involved with that kind of job, don't do it.

I do understand that people are forced to do more than they can, but this is a poor excuse if you ended up killing someone.

  • Oh, that's alright than.. they were stressed out.. let's rip up the fines of all those hard-working teachers who jump red lights too.

  • @ BOXERBOYNO1 I don't think a van of that size would be carrying millions.

  • The driver was given the bollocking after his manager saw this on this site. People at work was talking about it, so the top man decided to have a look. haha, serves the driver right, has a bad reputation for desrespecting the highway code

  • Sept 18, IIRC.

  • Yes, it's more visible if you click the high-quality version, and watch full screen.

LOL at the armed robber suggestion!! Someone else also suggested that.

  • what day was this video recorded?

  • It would be helpful to mark the video with the colour of the lights - it's not too clear at YouTube quality!

I saw no braking at all when it went to amber. He decided to go for it. Maybe he thought you were an armed robber?

  • quick some1 call the police!!

  • It's easy to be facetious, but just imagine your family was in a car, and got creamed by an armoured van. All dead. I'm betting you won't change your tune, you'll still laugh and think nothing of what the driver did.

Jumping reds could easily seem so minor until you witness someone killed by careless and stupid driving.

  • how the hell can you record a speeding van whilst on your bike... isnt that also a bit stupid and dangerous?

  • No, because it's a mounted camera that runs all the time. Doesn't require any user interaction whilst riding.

  • The video is nothing like clear enough to see what the light was doing when the van went through. And have you ever tried stopping a 4-tonne security van from 30mph in 20 yards? He could have quite easily ended up in the junction and causing a collision there.

  • It's easily visible even on the low quality. 5 seconds and IMO he could easily have stopped as any experienced driver would know.

  • When you reach the light it is obviously red, but not when the van enters the junction (which is hard to tell too).

And cycling around with a camera doesn't qualify you as an experienced heavy-vehicle driver.

  • Perhaps you could quote the highway code on what amber means? And it is obvious to me that the light turns red before the van gets to the stop line.

It sounds like you're assuming that I, and cyclists in general don't drive from your final sentence? You might like to rethink that.

  • 1. The highway code is horrendously out-dated (even with the recent "update") and you've already quoted it in the video's description, so why repeat it?

    2. I have re-watched the video several times and can (after making the video full-screen) see the light change well before he reaches the junction. It was a bad move.

    3. In general I assume that cyclists over the age of 17 can drive, especially those who film their journeys and quote the highway code.

  • The highway code is outdated in some respects, sure. Are you suggesting that amber shouldn't mean stop?

  • No, but the appropriate section of the RTA would be more important... the Highway Code isn't a legal code.

And the van is straddling the thick white line too, I noticed. The more I re-watch the clip, the worse the driver seems.

  • Yes, the sense of speed and impatience was scary when experienced in person. My riding and driving is far from perfect, but I hope I never put others at risk like this.

  • You should always be prepared to stop at traffic lights...especially when they've been green for a while!
