Straight on The Mizell Brothers. Gears and Places And Spaces by Donald Byrd are my favourite Mizell moments, both albums stacked full of beautiful music
africa centre alllllll the way! i was there from week one...till the end, n this tune was a major major tune inside that sweat box of a jam! jazzie b- ur large!
R.I.P Fonce Mizell. Thank you for the legacy of great music you've left us. This joint right here is a strong favorite of mine.....no question. I still play this record on a regular. Peaceful journey brother Mizell....may the ancestors guide you home.
Everything the Mizell brothers created I try my best to own. During the time they were out I had the LP's, now I have the CD's. Great, great talent, I play them over and over . . . Bobbi Humphrey, Donald Byrd, Johnny Hammond . . .
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I was sneaking into soul to soul (jazzie b) parties at 14 disobeying my parents coming home at crazy hours and this was one of the amazing tracks I was groovng too lol !!!
@ZunZaraVoMu Actually this track WAS produced by the Mizell brothers Im pretty sure so thats why. Im not sure if the Mizell brothers produced the Blackbyrds but when Donald Byrd got into Jazz Funk and all that fusion the Mizell brothers produced him and Donald Byrd taught the Blackbyrds and produced alot of their songs.
@ZunZaraVoMu matter fact it does sound alot like the blackbyrds.. also it sounds like vocals you would hear on a Mizell brothers produced Donald Byrd album.
I'm not new to the Mizell Bros but i Heard this for the first time today on 91.9 wclk.com streaming on the net. College radio in Atlanta from 2 to 6pm. i thought it was Donald Byrd or the Black Byrds. i was wrong but close. Yo we gotta save music n promote this instead of the here today gone tomorrow bs. anything by the Mizell bros is hot. 70's were a time of musicianship, creativity and experimentation. not copying or duplicating
I looooove the mizell brothers. They combined harmony and class to equal an everlasting sound that makes me want to play their songs as often as poosible to keep me in tune with good sounds, vibrations, and musical instrument variety . . .Thanx
Beautiful stuff, reading the below comments, some sincere comments for the real guys who around when this was created.... keeping the flame lit from the island of Ireland.
this makes me think of a November day in the Upper East Side of New York in 1970 . just as the sky turns purple, and you just walk around with your hands in your coat, observing .
This man was a very under rated musician, and this funk/jazz song is very reminiscent of the style of The Blackbyrds, that's great company to be in, high end 70's music, without a doubt!!
@btinsley1 i play some of this stuff on my station.. you can tune in online kfm radio dot co dot nz.. I play from 4pm - 6pm on a thursday New Zealand time... enjoy brotha :)
@btinsley1 some rap, like all other forms of so called music,is ..sick minded, yues.dont forget..the "reggateton of shit.".you cant even call that.music in any form
For Y'all....it's NOT Donald Byrd...but YES !! A Mizell Brothers production ( they also did Don Byrd). This was a classic at The Africa Center, Covent Garden, London.....SOul II SOul sessions.
It's the song with the "to the people to the left, to the people to right" chant in it, right? Never heard the original before, the combination of the drums and bass line is awesome, killer track.
THANKS FOR POSTING THIS... i'm always looking for rarities that bring me back to my childhood where my dad smoked a lot of weed and listened to all types of music while me and my sister played in the front room...
