Today people are giving EST only if they really need it. Back in the 70's It was given even if you didn't want it. My brother in law killed my sister. He told me he was so messed up after word he needed EST to get over what had happen. (mental disorder) If it wasn't for EST he would have been worse off today then he already is. and no he still has not got over the killing. He is still suffering from him doing the act.
My father was physically and emotionally abusive towards my mother, my self and the rest of my family from the time I was born to when I was 13 years old (he inherited a lot of money and decided to leave). From 14 to 22, I was doped up on several psychaitric meds. I have been left with several severe persistent issues from the meds. At 13, I was damaged. Now, at 22, I'm broken.
If you read the fine print on the pamphlet that comes in the box of modern anti-depressant medications, it says that some of the side-effects are suicide and homicide.
This means that you may kill someone that you would not kill without the medication.
It means that you have a better chance of killing yourself WITH these medications.
I agree that there used to be some ridiculous, cruel psychiatric treatments, but that was the way with all sorts of medical treatments as they were developed. It's unfortunate that people like her have had experiences such as these, but you cannot condemn all of modern psychiatry on the basis of this sort of thing. The propagation of stories such as these is the reason that a lot of people who need psychiatric treatment do not seek it.
brockville psych hospital is a fucked place ...a few years ago some dude got out for day pass kinda deal after bout 20 years of not being aloud..was left alone by 2 escorts while he went in to a tim hortons for a coffee ......and you know the rest ...he shouldnt have been left alone or let out at all ....theres stories that linger far from brockville:|
I had an aunt who was institutionalized for her life via the failed effects of ECT. I have also underwent hospital treatment, only given pills though. I was mentally sick. With a excellent doctor this lead to a change in perceptions, & a clearer mind. I don't deny that misdiagnosis of psychiatry exists even today, but it does help a lot of people. It helped me continue with my life. While things still aren't perfect I'd hate to see where I was without psychiatric help.
I must mention this because someone has to let people know that there is another side. I had a very hard life and needed help and counseling just did not do it. I took SRI for a long time and although at the end I was taking too much, it really really helped me and I had an awesome psychiatrist. I still take very small doses of the SRI, and if I stop I have problems. But I am so much better and happier, even with more bad stuff going on, than I was before.
you are absolutely correct! In fact as a psych patient(on their books indefinitely)merely down to bereavement/divorce plus. Here in the UK they can lock you up on the basis of that you need treatment for the label that you have!!
in addition...I am even fearful that I have complained as in effect I am damaging a very rich 'business'.It's true that they have their own set of rules and have the power to medicate on the grounds that you need treatment.SOMEONE PLEASE HELP.Any suggestions?
Oh my this is bad, they should of helped her get away from the abuse in her family, and take her brother as well, giving them a chance in the world. Wow thank you for doing this interview.
People can overcome anything by there own thinking.
The doctors need to be stopped of the cruel things they do.
Watch out for state hospitals they will keep you and experiment with you. You must know your rights and make them be enforced always let some one you can trust know where you are.
I am so sorry to hear of your experiences, Sue. Sounds like you were in a very abusive hospital. I think it's important to remember that not everyone, globally, who practices psychiatry is motivated by evil. There are good and bad people in all professions.
I was there. 72 hour lock up because I called a psychiatrist a quack(because he lied on my paper work). They tried to force me (at 18) into a ward with all of the military men there because of PTSD (which means they would be prone to fits of violence). They would not allow me to have the gifts my family brought me. All this because they said I was too angry... which, by the way.... was the reason I sought treatment. Some treatment eh? NEVER GO TO CEDAR SPRINGS IN COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO!!!!!!
I should clarify, I never recieved electroshock. But, like Sue said, the whole Psychiatry system is absurd and wreaks of hypocricy and torture. It is a profession of power and control, not treatment and assistance and service. On the other hand, there ARE good councilors who use appropriate techniques.
thank God you bought this to attention, you are both very influential to make this BARBARIC psychiatric practice void.I have been an ect survivor.I will someday tell my story.Fancy a trip to London UK?
I love the way you do Momo. I hope you keep taking on worthy causes. And this stuff keeps going on day after day. And the drug companies take a vacation to the Caribbean and throw their money around! Big tippers! LIke you said, "It is amazing!" Reach out and help someone. That is what I try to do. Makes me feel good in doing so...
You're talking about something that happened to you over a quarter of a Century ago. ECT these days, is done while the patient is under sedation. ECT is when doctors give the patient a series of seizures (not at the same time), in a certain part of the brain, and it helps, sometimes completely controls, severe mental illness. I have seen people that have had this done RECENTLY, not 25 years ago, and it helped them tremendously. (Cont.)
They won't force anyone to have ECT these days, and it doesn't help everyone. It is, however, a choice. It's NEVER done to children. Not in this day & age. As far as psychiatric meds, I believe they are over used. That is why it is so very necessary to find a good psychiatrist that gives you the right med for your illness. (Cont.)
Bwhahhahaahahahahaha. Stick your finger in a light socket and see if that seems like something that will repair your body. Put your hand on a hot stove and listen to what your body says. In the absence of actual knowledge man tends to come up with unusual solutions to problems, thus I submit that psychiatrists have very little knowledge. Voodoo actually has gotten better results.
@WTCVET your actually right, i know exactly what your talking about.and psychiatrists are just failed physicians. psychiatrists are completely worthless sacks of crap
ive had to deal with psychiatrists, they suck, they dont do anything and most of them are either puppets or full blown sociopaths., they dont understand mental illness at all.if anyone with a brain takes meds, its pretty easy to realize that meds arent the answer,
ive had to deal with psychiatrists, they suck, they dont do anything and most of them are either puppets or full blown sociopaths., they dont understand mental illness at all.if anyone with a brain takes meds, its pretty easy to realize that meds arent the answer, any mental illness can be coped with, if you stay off meds long enough.
ECT simply gives the patient a seizure. I have epilepsy. Does that mean everytime I have a seizure I get brain damage? Some people do have mental illness and NEED meds. I'm happy for you and wish you luck in your walk in life.
I know this happens, but I've never heard anyone talk about it from first experience. I'm just shocked, and without words. People please rate this vid so it goes on the front page!

The Nazi death camps were run by psychiatrists / eugenicists.
Universal Health Care will assign you a psychiatrist to help you comply with the directives of the state.
800 FEMA camps are places to house sick people ie; dissidents.
It's only a matter of time before a tyrant the likes of Hitler is elected.
