@rmcdaniel423 dude this is a hit job on government. and i think like most people that gov should run cleaner- beuracracy is not good. but there are reasons why you need permits to rebuild. they want to make sure you do it right and the roof doesn't fall on you, for one. when brad pitt went to work on building houses, he had to get permits too (something they fail to mention) so that they would be up to code. then stossel says government wasn't helping, but by the way it should still be smaller.

I understand the value of post-work inspections. I believe they should be done by an independent non-profit, like the local HBA or something similar. I think a record of passed inspections should be used as a badge of honor when passing title for real estate transactions. What I object to is the notion that the government requires permission (ie, "permit") to even begin work on private property. I repeat, PRIVATE property.

@BlueBlueFeelin For example: When I rebuilt a garage 10 years ago, the city required a permit. If I had started building without one, they could force me to tear it all down. No matter how well it was being built. Now matter how perfectly it may have passed an inspection. I had to pay for permission just to have the "right" to build something on my own "private" property. That is the fundamental intrusion to which I object.

Like I said, I regard post-work inspections as a separate issue.

Building permits are an affirmation that even though you purchased land, it is not your property. It is the property of state or federal government. Why else would you be required to do anything before you can use your own property? If people are concerned about your polluting or dumping, they need only complain to law enforcement about damage to adjacent land or air pollution, if there is any. When gov acknowledges the rights of individuals to reclaim their property and rebuild their lives with understanding and assistance, then gov has a role to play. But when gov acts as an obstacle to your right to recover from disaster it loses its legitimacy to govern.

The government holds allodial title, when they aquired it i dont know but it is the source of the problems u see above. Your property is not yours, its a corporation, between you and the government. Thats why u pay property tax, its basically a "users" fee. So is Registration with your auto, they hold the certificate of origin. Making your car a corporation also.
