Too much fucking regulations. You can't even plant, repair or even build something in fear of violating policies. You have a permit for just about everything. It's ridiculous!
Nagin despite being aparently a competent COX executive, as a bureacrat, he was inept!!!! government is the problem, not the solution. I hate all those idiots in charge of New Orleans. I left NOLA on Oct 17. 2005.... but would love to move back for good again sometime in the future.
It's fundamentally wrong that a free person should need to jump through hoops with a ruling elite in order to get permission ("permits") to repair or rebuild your own home. Shameful.
@rmcdaniel423 dude this is a hit job on government. and i think like most people that gov should run cleaner- beuracracy is not good. but there are reasons why you need permits to rebuild. they want to make sure you do it right and the roof doesn't fall on you, for one. when brad pitt went to work on building houses, he had to get permits too (something they fail to mention) so that they would be up to code. then stossel says government wasn't helping, but by the way it should still be smaller.
@BlueBlueFeelin wrote "they want to make sure you do it right".
I understand the value of post-work inspections. I believe they should be done by an independent non-profit, like the local HBA or something similar. I think a record of passed inspections should be used as a badge of honor when passing title for real estate transactions. What I object to is the notion that the government requires permission (ie, "permit") to even begin work on private property. I repeat, PRIVATE property.
@BlueBlueFeelin For example: When I rebuilt a garage 10 years ago, the city required a permit. If I had started building without one, they could force me to tear it all down. No matter how well it was being built. Now matter how perfectly it may have passed an inspection. I had to pay for permission just to have the "right" to build something on my own "private" property. That is the fundamental intrusion to which I object.
Like I said, I regard post-work inspections as a separate issue.
No matter what happens with the country, you cannot take away the American spirit to help your brother and community. It always works, and is what built our nation so long ago!

LA has been a pusshole of the crumbs left socialism uses as cover for politicians to line their pockets. Lord Acton has NEVER been refuted - power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Do you hate big business?? Wrong what you really hate is the government monoponly and cronies allowing favoritism like raytheon Haliburton and the like.
Think Obama is different?? Wrong it will just be different companies like wind and solar co. that cheat Americans out of their money.
Charles Schumer is a douchebag. That idea of government involvement making it worse makes sense. The Chinese government has done absolutely nothing, just continued business as usual, and last I heard they're the only ones making a profit. The thing about the U.S government printing money nonstop and the Canadian government getting involved in the housing market to "encourage loans", has me thinking we are going to a depression.
"It's people that make America great, not the government" I completely agree. We all need to help each other out. God Bless America's people! THe power of volunteers is AWESOME!!!
IN Wisconsin a ice company loaded trucks with ice for Katrina. The government said WE don't want it! We have to pay for it! Yea Obama and government does it right!
Building permits are an affirmation that even though you purchased land, it is not your property. It is the property of state or federal government. Why else would you be required to do anything before you can use your own property? If people are concerned about your polluting or dumping, they need only complain to law enforcement about damage to adjacent land or air pollution, if there is any. If you don't want people to smoke or drink or climb or poop on your land, that's your right as owner.
You big government advocates wake the hell up. How are all these celebrities still follow this philosophy of more bureaucracy. Most of these politicians want to have the power and the prestige of their jobs. They don't care about what works best. Get the hell out of the way and out of our lives. We can do it better!
They hire people to work on these issues, and the issues never get fixed, and the money they supposedly put towards helping keeps getting gobbled up and not going where it was supposed to go in the first place. Or was it even meant to go there, or was it just a political speal so that they looked good. Well actions speak louder then words, and they sure like to make promises they never seem to keep.
Anarchy isnt what John talks about its Libratarianism, do not mistake it for being liberal because it is the exact opposite from todays ideas of liberalism
Ya they treat the poor like trash and if you're anyone then you get some help. Hmmm rob the poor and give to the rich, things are backwards around here, been like that for a long time now. I'm really happy to see that the celebrities have a heart at least. Sure they may have tones of cash but at least they're giving something, more then we can say about the government. Even just the common folks lending a hand, that's real community at it's finest.
The next moron will be even worse. What will happen is there will be a Democrat President, a Democrat majority in both houses of Congress, and soon to be Liberal majority on the Supreme court. NO Checks, and NO balances. IT will be a disaster the ramifications of which this country will have never seen. It will be the end of freedom in America, and the start of socialism.
Tell me about it. I just went through the zoning and permit nightmare in my city. I am trying to put up a radio antenna which the whole project would cost me $350. The city is wanting me to get a state engineers seal on the factory drawings. So far that looks like it will cost between $1500-$2000. Nice.
Our quality of life would be much much better if the government followed the constitution and let us solve our own problems. When are we going to realize that politicians can't solve our problems... Only we can.
When we the people fix a problem we do it completely voluntarily in a way that mutually benefits those fixing the problem. When politicians try to fix something they only use force and distort our marketplace and society.

"When we the people fix a problem we do it completely voluntarily in a way that mutually benefits those fixing the problem. "
Take a trip down to Juarez Mexico and other Mexican/Texas bordering cities, and tell that to the exploited workers. I'm sure they're reaping the benefits. Maybe you should wake up. Because this is propoganda just like any other.
Freedom isn't perfect, but it's better than political force.
Now if someone commits fraud or acts of exploitation, we have a police and court system that can take care of that.
Our founding fathers didn't create a flawless system, but they did create the best possible system of government in the world. America was the envy of the world because for the first time in the history of the world there was a government that limited itself. Unfortunately, America has lost its way...
This is amazing. We need to get back to communities and volunteerism and the kindness of people more fortunate. The government is USELESS! It just grows bigger and bigger.
Ron Paul was the ONLY candidate who espoused smaller government, an idea becoming increasingly popular among Americans -- yet look who we got -- Obama & McCain. What a joke.....
"Government didn't make this country great, it's PEOPLE that made America great." That man deserves to go down in history for that comment right there.
It's nice that Michael Moore helped out the way he has;now, hopefully, this kind of experience will help him see the inherent uselessness of Govt, and change his mind about advocating for things like socialised medicine.
Ron Paul had it right. Get the gov out of the way, and people will do the right thing to take care of themselves. FEMA and all the other agencies are nothing more than blockades to communities recovering from disaster. When gov acknowledges the rights of individuals to reclaim their property and rebuild their lives with understanding and assistance, then gov has a role to play. But when gov acts as an obstacle to your right to recover from disaster it loses its legitimacy to govern.
Just because he was useless before, during and after the hurricane? Or is it because he keeps huffing and puffing and pretending that he serves some purpose?
yea that's what i thought but i had to make sure w/o googling it. that shit gets annoying cuz i have questions A LOT. I even quoted that guy, too, before i replied to you. i have some sage, too, so that confused me. hahaha
The government holds allodial title, when they aquired it i dont know but it is the source of the problems u see above. Your property is not yours, its a corporation, between you and the government. Thats why u pay property tax, its basically a "users" fee. So is Registration with your auto, they hold the certificate of origin. Making your car a corporation also.

We can do it better!
banemaler 3 years ago 22
They hire people to work on these issues, and the issues never get fixed, and the money they supposedly put towards helping keeps getting gobbled up and not going where it was supposed to go in the first place. Or was it even meant to go there, or was it just a political speal so that they looked good. Well actions speak louder then words, and they sure like to make promises they never seem to keep.

Give the billions to the PEOPLE and NOT the government!!!

They do not wont poor people to bild their!
killergames187 3 years ago
Ya they treat the poor like trash and if you're anyone then you get some help. Hmmm rob the poor and give to the rich, things are backwards around here, been like that for a long time now. I'm really happy to see that the celebrities have a heart at least. Sure they may have tones of cash but at least they're giving something, more then we can say about the government. Even just the common folks lending a hand, that's real community at it's finest.

They should remove that morron from office
mostrico 3 years ago

Nice.

prime reason im not a government-is-the-solution supporter. once you get pass the utopian feel good crap this is what you actually get.
randumbusername 3 years ago 2
Our quality of life would be much much better if the government followed the constitution and let us solve our own problems. When are we going to realize that politicians can't solve our problems... Only we can.
When we the people fix a problem we do it completely voluntarily in a way that mutually benefits those fixing the problem. When politicians try to fix something they only use force and distort our marketplace and society.
thinbev 3 years ago 4
This comment has received too many negative votes show
"When we the people fix a problem we do it completely voluntarily in a way that mutually benefits those fixing the problem. "
Take a trip down to Juarez Mexico and other Mexican/Texas bordering cities, and tell that to the exploited workers. I'm sure they're reaping the benefits. Maybe you should wake up. Because this is propoganda just like any other.
Joyness333 3 years ago
Freedom isn't perfect, but it's better than political force.
Now if someone commits fraud or acts of exploitation, we have a police and court system that can take care of that.
Our founding fathers didn't create a flawless system, but they did create the best possible system of government in the world. America was the envy of the world because for the first time in the history of the world there was a government that limited itself. Unfortunately, America has lost its way...
thinbev 3 years ago 5
Amerika didn't 'lose its way.' It was intentionally ran off course, from the beginning.

TiaSaysSo 3 years ago 4
Ron Paul had it right. Get the gov out of the way, and people will do the right thing to take care of themselves. FEMA and all the other agencies are nothing more than blockades to communities recovering from disaster. When gov acknowledges the rights of individuals to reclaim their property and rebuild their lives with understanding and assistance, then gov has a role to play. But when gov acts as an obstacle to your right to recover from disaster it loses its legitimacy to govern.
