  • I love the G8. its a one of a kind car

  • 0:58 hyundai. not heeunday.

  • It's funny the G8 was eligible because it was first produced in 2006 as the Holden VE Commodore, 3 years later it was exported to north america as the g8.

  • What, Pontiac?

  • G8 FTW!

  • put k20a motor into that fit and it will own

  • none sense!

  • K nevermind, the GTR invoice is 79K

  • Why are they giving awards out to expensive cars that do not sell??? They should have a minimum projected sales to be "car of the year". How many people are going to look at this review and say, Yep, I am buying the $65K nissan because it is car of the year...

  • Weres the freaking zr1

  • They have 2 of the same car, a Matrix and a Vibe.

  • i love that audi

  • I wonder why haven't they included the Corvette ZR1 in the review? Would be interesting how it performs outside the track

  • @ArmaDino22 it's because ZR1 is nothing new on the market and there are no value at that cost. rather buy GTR hence, GTR won the COTY

  • Can I just say that these people are idiots for Choosing The 1 Hyundai that no one buys because everyone knows their crap.

Well at least all the Hyundai's that were ever sold.

  • Motor Trend always on Japaness Cars side they never say American cars are good . a specially Toyota they allways say it is the winner sucksssssss.

  • what about m3??

  • Part of the rules.. if the car won last year it cant compete this year unless there was a redesign... or something like that.. check motortrend out.. I am sure the rules are posted somewhere.

  • 2000 dodge ram, 311,870 miles, and guess what, it's just a 360.

  • woot go nissan :)

  • Where are Acura and Lexus?

  • Japan

  • wrong Acura in USA and Honda is in Japan

  • Can please someone else talk.

  • liking this guys accent haha

  • well i gota dodge dakota 168,000 2001. go figure

  • GT-R against the Fit?!?!?!?!

    That's like a F-18 fighter against a glider!

  • Well, the Hyundai's value will drop by $20,000 as soon as it leaves the lot, so forget that one. A vibe? Please. G8? Entirely overpriced for a Pontiac. The 135 is very competitive, nice car. The Challenger is something fast and cool looking you don't see on every corner. An eye-catcher. Nice new VW. GT-R does it for me once again. Such a sweet car. Affordable, comfortable, safe, modern, superb design, exotic car performance. And who can beat that? No one has, period.

  • Affordable? The GT-R is no Honda Fit or VW in that category... I think I'd rather have two loaded up brand new Challengers...

  • wheres the mazdaspeed 3

fun but it's under the shadow of awd wrx ....

  • wheres the mazdaspeed 3?

  • Can anyone tell me who the artist is of the song played at the beginning PLEASE

  • flashbulb i think

  • i would say the challenger hands down...gtr is better but way too expensive...challengers got the looks and the performance...not car in this group makes a bigger visual impact...and gas isnt that bad on the r/t model....fuck the hondas and toyotas

  • Oh Jesus here we go. I work at a Honda dealership, have worked there for a year and a half now. RARELY do i see Civics with over 150,000. The most I saw was 380,000 miles and it drove like it was about to die any second. Commend it for reaching that mark but I must say i had a 1994 Chevy Silverado that I sold at 250,000(give or take a few hundred) miles for almost $4500. Hondas have their fair share of heaps too. So many of those damn things with trans and engine oil leaks it's not funny.

  • even with an oil leak, they can still last thousands upon thousands of miles.

  • Damn, a lot of good (and iconic) cars came out this year.

  • Improved results:

    1. Acura TL

    2. Acura TSX

    3. Honda Fit

All the others cars are hopeless case.

  • @petergriffin4200:

dude, dont be so honda biased

  • Dude what can I say, Honda products are excellent and very reliable because I have a 1993 Honda Accord with 342K miles and its running strong with its original engain and transmission. I also have a 2005 Acura RL with 110K miles and its doing well. Honda Acura rules!

  • WOW ! you are one lucky guy. NOT !

  • Yes, I consider myself very lucky because I have very minimal auto maintanace costs with my Honda products.

  • 2005 w/ 110K miles? Do you deliver pizza or something?

  • Delivering pizza in an 05 Acura RL?

no man I just take alot of roadtrips whenever I am free.

I have seen some 05 RL with 150K miles for sale

  • you are lucky you dont have a 2001-2003 honda car, because you would have changed your tranny twice

  • Ya I would take a honda over a Challenger, or Caddilac, Or BMV, or Audi, or Hot Pontiac,,, NOT! Honda can make an engine but with a little work you can make domestic vehicals last at least that long, oh and have you ever seen a old honda crash test video. Check it out! I think hondas were designed to do the least amount of damage to the other car. ACE body structure means get rear ended, twist your front end. Keep your RL for Barett Jackson, see how that works for ya, Honda = cheap transport

  • Domestic cars can last long but that is if you replace the engain and tranny numerous times which might cost more then the car itself is worth. Honda products can easily surpass the 300,000 mile mark in its original powertrain.

As for safety, all Hondas(and Acura) cars recieved the highest five star rating and ACE structure means that it absorbs impact in one area thus reducing intrusion in the cabin.

Most American cars recieve crappy crash test scores because these cars are cheaply made.

  • i have a 2001 honda civic lx and i have to change my tranny, i was lucky mine got to 90k miles before i have to change it,google honda civic tranny and you'll see most of 2001-2003 honda cars are suffering from this.

  • lol you forgot about 98-2002 accord v6 trannys

  • lol, i read about them too, and i'm reading alot of complains about rear brakes on the new accords too.i hope honda looks into it and solve these problems early.

  • lol didnt know new accords actually had any problems lol.. cant believe it.. and it is supposed to be one of the most reliable car makes.. i mean im not bashing it but fuck that sucks lol!

  • they still reliable but their repair cost went up.

  • One word: kaboom? LOL

  • dude i did not!!!..i swear..you can call charlie if u want...hes got my back..i swear dude...gimme one more chance!

  • uh? wtf? lol

  • are the 5 speeds reliable?..in the 98-02

  • 4 cyl yes, i haven heard of any recalls yet.. auto v6 no.. hell no..

  • aight, but if the auto goe's out....will honda pay for it?....

  • if and only if you have warranty.. for example i had the extended warranty which was 7yrs if im not mistaking and oh well my 7 years were till last summer so if mine blow ill need to buy it, but im not so worried i still have 37k i have enough time to get into another car before that happens

  • I agree, they make decent cars that last a long time, but I actually got into a collision with my Nissan Maxima against a pickup truck at around 45MPH and sustained no injury and the car even sustained minimal damage, Nissan gets my nod.

  • I would hope a Monte Carlo or Bonneville would treat you as while. I dont have any problems with Nissan other then I dont have much experience working on them, Their paint has had durability problems in the last 7 years and I believe their styling gets out dated quick.

  • It all depends on your values, I believe that the big three provide the best compromise for the largest group of people. If the bumper height of that truck was different by even two inches your car may have been destroyed and another still fine. I could wreck a car in a hundred hours of spirited aggression or make one last for decades;

  • 94 beretta LOL

  • Heeeunndaiiii Genesis.

  • the gtr cost 70,000 not 90,000--and the g8 shoulda won!!!

  • 1. Challenger

    2. Jaguar XF

    3. Passat CC

  • well this is not a fair test at all of course the gtr would win, they should compare them by prices. not a 90,000 doller car to a 17,000 doller corolla.

  • agreed. a meaningless competition, from GT-R to Honda Fit?!

  • Go GT-R xf,and 6

  • Todays contenders wooo.

  • What a load of BULLSHIT comparing these totally different cars! What idiots. Each car has different attributes and prices, Motor trend Morons. Such a waste of time. Genesis, Corrolas, Passats, TL's? Makes me want to puke!

  • Obviously you are a little retarded and have no idea how the judging works.

  • GTR!!! FTW!!!

  • I guarantee the Hyundai will win, if not, it will loose do to some nit-pick. MKS is nice, but without the Eco-boost V6, it's not compelling enough. G8 is great but not perfect. I don't want the Genesis to win, but Hyundai always wins at everything, so I'll put my money on them, even though I would rather drive a Lincoln.

  • u r wrong, GTR win

  • the gtr

  • I would take the Dodge Challenger or the Nissan GTR Or the Jaguar XF . But the Passat CC is quite nice too .

  • motor trend is such shit

  • Sure the GT-R is nice, but the Corolla's raw power just can't be stopped.

  • No shit, that Corolla gives people whiplash... I mean why put shit like that in the same car o the year category when obiviously some cars have had millions and millions more in developement are are actually worthy of such a thing. Even teh Hyundai Genesis was a big step forward for them.

  • it is either bmw 1, jaguar, or the GT-R. i think they will secretly favor a non-american car b/c last year they gave it to the caddy.

  • why do they only have the BMW 1 series, the 3series are so much nicer.

  • i think its because they only allow cars that have been released this year.

  • OOHHH got it lol :)

  • Yeah I have no idea how they choose the contenders.

  • ZR-1 or GTR

  • And the winner is 2009 MAZDA6!!!

  • xf ftw

  • Hyundai Genesis!!!

  • clearly the VW Passat CC will win....

  • GR-R all the way!

  • i'm going for American. The Dodge Challenger R/T

  • hmmmm.... i wonder why the GTR is parked front and center?...

  • because thats were i parked it and the car of the year is the Hyundai Genesis.

  • Since no LP560, GTR all the way!!

  • i personally think there should have been an audi rs4 in there and a bmw m3..... but thats just my opinion. and how come there isnt a mercedes? im sure they would have a contender or 2 - anyways i respect there choices and out of the cars they have chosen i pick the r35 because of its technological break throughs

  • To answer your question, and a few others questions. The contenders for car of the year is all new models which have been introduced, or are a major redesign between January 1st,2008 and December 31st,2008. No special trims like the M3, or CTS-V are allowed because the vehicles they are based on were already introduced the prior year. This is why a vehicle can only win Car of the year once, until it is completely redesigned. I hope this helped.

  • thanks for the reply, certainly clears things up!

  • G8 all the way

  • They actually included the Honda Fit, and a lot of other yawn-inducing commuter cars for CAR OF THE YEAR consideration. Ugh, I guess they have to fill the pages with something, otherwise the magazine would become a pamphlet.

  • gtr!

  • when is the final decision of what car is the best. GO ACURA TL

  • G8 has to be American. look at whats happening to the big 3 =(

  • mmmmmmmmmmmm wonder why ford mustang din't make it ooo yea becuse it sucks!!!

  • Yeah, normally I think Mustangs are a piece of shit thanks to Ford cheapness, but the 2010 Mustang is going to be an amazing machine, Boss 302, Independent Rear Suspension (rumours of it), better quality interior, better exterior.

  • HAHAHAHAHA YOU SAID IT>>>>

  • From This Cars Challenger FTW!!

  • BMW 135i FTW!!!

  • go gtr!!!

  • it's gonna be the hyundai genesis, and then comes a flood of hatemail.

  • CHALLENGER!

  • CHALLENGER ALL THE WAY

  • why have the vibe, corolla and the matrix all in the same comparo if they are pretty much the same car

  • go Pontiac G8

  • The reason the ZR1 isn't included here is because the award is for the best well-rounded car; not the fastest.

  • i love the challenger but i think the nissan GTR will win

  • good job!
