It's funny the G8 was eligible because it was first produced in 2006 as the Holden VE Commodore, 3 years later it was exported to north america as the g8.
Why are they giving awards out to expensive cars that do not sell??? They should have a minimum projected sales to be "car of the year". How many people are going to look at this review and say, Yep, I am buying the $65K nissan because it is car of the year...
Part of the rules.. if the car won last year it cant compete this year unless there was a redesign... or something like that.. check motortrend out.. I am sure the rules are posted somewhere.
Well, the Hyundai's value will drop by $20,000 as soon as it leaves the lot, so forget that one. A vibe? Please. G8? Entirely overpriced for a Pontiac. The 135 is very competitive, nice car. The Challenger is something fast and cool looking you don't see on every corner. An eye-catcher. Nice new VW. GT-R does it for me once again. Such a sweet car. Affordable, comfortable, safe, modern, superb design, exotic car performance. And who can beat that? No one has, period.
i would say the challenger hands down...gtr is better but way too expensive...challengers got the looks and the performance...not car in this group makes a bigger visual impact...and gas isnt that bad on the r/t model....fuck the hondas and toyotas
Oh Jesus here we go. I work at a Honda dealership, have worked there for a year and a half now. RARELY do i see Civics with over 150,000. The most I saw was 380,000 miles and it drove like it was about to die any second. Commend it for reaching that mark but I must say i had a 1994 Chevy Silverado that I sold at 250,000(give or take a few hundred) miles for almost $4500. Hondas have their fair share of heaps too. So many of those damn things with trans and engine oil leaks it's not funny.
Dude what can I say, Honda products are excellent and very reliable because I have a 1993 Honda Accord with 342K miles and its running strong with its original engain and transmission. I also have a 2005 Acura RL with 110K miles and its doing well. Honda Acura rules!
Ya I would take a honda over a Challenger, or Caddilac, Or BMV, or Audi, or Hot Pontiac,,, NOT! Honda can make an engine but with a little work you can make domestic vehicals last at least that long, oh and have you ever seen a old honda crash test video. Check it out! I think hondas were designed to do the least amount of damage to the other car. ACE body structure means get rear ended, twist your front end. Keep your RL for Barett Jackson, see how that works for ya, Honda = cheap transport
Domestic cars can last long but that is if you replace the engain and tranny numerous times which might cost more then the car itself is worth. Honda products can easily surpass the 300,000 mile mark in its original powertrain.
As for safety, all Hondas(and Acura) cars recieved the highest five star rating and ACE structure means that it absorbs impact in one area thus reducing intrusion in the cabin.
Most American cars recieve crappy crash test scores because these cars are cheaply made.
i have a 2001 honda civic lx and i have to change my tranny, i was lucky mine got to 90k miles before i have to change it,google honda civic tranny and you'll see most of 2001-2003 honda cars are suffering from this.
lol, i read about them too, and i'm reading alot of complains about rear brakes on the new accords too.i hope honda looks into it and solve these problems early.
lol didnt know new accords actually had any problems lol.. cant believe it.. and it is supposed to be one of the most reliable car makes.. i mean im not bashing it but fuck that sucks lol!
if and only if you have warranty.. for example i had the extended warranty which was 7yrs if im not mistaking and oh well my 7 years were till last summer so if mine blow ill need to buy it, but im not so worried i still have 37k i have enough time to get into another car before that happens
I agree, they make decent cars that last a long time, but I actually got into a collision with my Nissan Maxima against a pickup truck at around 45MPH and sustained no injury and the car even sustained minimal damage, Nissan gets my nod.
I would hope a Monte Carlo or Bonneville would treat you as while. I dont have any problems with Nissan other then I dont have much experience working on them, Their paint has had durability problems in the last 7 years and I believe their styling gets out dated quick.
It all depends on your values, I believe that the big three provide the best compromise for the largest group of people. If the bumper height of that truck was different by even two inches your car may have been destroyed and another still fine. I could wreck a car in a hundred hours of spirited aggression or make one last for decades;
well this is not a fair test at all of course the gtr would win, they should compare them by prices. not a 90,000 doller car to a 17,000 doller corolla.
What a load of BULLSHIT comparing these totally different cars! What idiots. Each car has different attributes and prices, Motor trend Morons. Such a waste of time. Genesis, Corrolas, Passats, TL's? Makes me want to puke!
I guarantee the Hyundai will win, if not, it will loose do to some nit-pick. MKS is nice, but without the Eco-boost V6, it's not compelling enough. G8 is great but not perfect. I don't want the Genesis to win, but Hyundai always wins at everything, so I'll put my money on them, even though I would rather drive a Lincoln.
No shit, that Corolla gives people whiplash... I mean why put shit like that in the same car o the year category when obiviously some cars have had millions and millions more in developement are are actually worthy of such a thing. Even teh Hyundai Genesis was a big step forward for them.
i personally think there should have been an audi rs4 in there and a bmw m3..... but thats just my opinion. and how come there isnt a mercedes? im sure they would have a contender or 2 - anyways i respect there choices and out of the cars they have chosen i pick the r35 because of its technological break throughs
To answer your question, and a few others questions. The contenders for car of the year is all new models which have been introduced, or are a major redesign between January 1st,2008 and December 31st,2008. No special trims like the M3, or CTS-V are allowed because the vehicles they are based on were already introduced the prior year. This is why a vehicle can only win Car of the year once, until it is completely redesigned. I hope this helped.
They actually included the Honda Fit, and a lot of other yawn-inducing commuter cars for CAR OF THE YEAR consideration. Ugh, I guess they have to fill the pages with something, otherwise the magazine would become a pamphlet.
Yeah, normally I think Mustangs are a piece of shit thanks to Ford cheapness, but the 2010 Mustang is going to be an amazing machine, Boss 302, Independent Rear Suspension (rumours of it), better quality interior, better exterior.
