I think it sounds awesome. No need 2 compare the 2 legends--George sings like George & Smokey sings like Smokey & it is George's song after all. This was 1985 "Motown Returns 2 the Apollo"-- LOTS of awkward pairings/duets on that show as I recall (Boy George & Stevie, Patti LaBelle & Joe Cocker, et al). George was technically not an established solo star yet, though he WAS the group Wham. 1985 - Early in George's drug/fame stage & late in Smokey's drug/fame stage. Still amazing & per4mances.

I DO know who Smokey Robinson is, and you're simply not objective. The duet SUCKED. Not only their voices don't go along (which is not necessarily a bad thing) but they're completely incompatible with each other and Smokey's is incompatible with the song itself.

With the result that Smokey trashed the song and George TRASHED SMOKEY. Period.
